Jason has grown in the 25 years that he's worked for Sonny. Now, Sonny bring guards with him to all meetings and everyone is patted down at the beginning. Jason is a strategist. He uses his mind more that he uses his muscle. His reputation goes before him. You can see the bond starting to form between the two men.
I love how Jason was so loyal to Sonny back then, I really wish that the show could be like this again. He was also somewhat scary back when Steve Burton was Jason but only back in the 1990's
Yeah Sonny should've thanked Jason instead of telling him off to use the gun for protection than muscle. Because your strengths matters more than being vulnerable if you're the one down on the ground dying. Because Jason knows what he is doing and Sonny doesn't.
It's still early into Jason's employment with Sonny here. Technically Jason is still just a delivery messenger at this point. I understand that Sonny sees potential in Jason and is training him to move up the ladder, but for this particular scene it just seems odd for Jason to be at this meeting. Surely Sonny has half a dozen 'associates' higher up the food chain to chose from to sit with him for this discussion....
