I’ve been waiting for this live since it was announced. Fun listening to all of your perspectives. I really enjoyed the God of the Woods - loved the slow burn mystery and the atmosphere

I will say though that I could definitely relate to Tracy..how she was usually quiet and kept to herself.. she'd be reading a book while the rest of the group chats etc.

Overall r stars! I appreciated that the physical book had the timeline marked on each chapter. I also liked that we met so many characters because it meant that you really didn’t know who was important.

I really enjoyed the book. I picture the author writing this with a million index cards pinned on a wall with all the characters and timelines!

Dang missed this live bc i was finishing The Bog Wife!
God of the Woods was 5⭐ star for me! Mainly for the writing of the pure heartbreak. The people in this book are so lonely.
My thoughts on the book that haven't already been said... I think Alice as a character would have been so hard to understand in the hands of a lesser author. But we get inside her head and see how she is slowly eased into this life of suffocation. I think Alice is also in the story to act as the reader's window into the world of the rich, and how even as someone raised in this class she feels like an outsider.
Standout scene was with our hero Judy, in the dark in front of the hotel, as she stands up to her father and tells him no, actually, she'll be staying. Power scene that is a great example of the themes you talked about of authority and gender in this time period.
Quotes: Dig on Thoreau by Louise: "There were poor people far more resourceful and self-sufficient than he was; they just had the grace and self-awareness not to brag about it."
"Who is responsible for allowing the boy into the dormitory!?" "Well, Barbara is." 🤭

I loved The God of the Woods (5 ⭐) but I also love popcorn thrillers. I'm reading the new Freida McFadden now. 🙂

This book is just like Liz Moore's other books - slow burning family dramas with a little mystery thrown in. The stakes aren't very high, which is what disqualifies it as a 'thriller' to me, and its really not suspenseful or anything but it IS engrossing. I gave it a 4.0... Really enjoyed it!

I enjoyed the book (I read it back when it released) but I just need some acknowledgement that leaving a teenager on her own in the woods is not a solution to the problem....

💗 but hated it, lol. 2.75 stars, rounded down to 2 stars in Goodreads.

dammit I missed the live! I gave it a generous 3⭐ but honestly probably more of a 2.5⭐. It is NOT a Thriller imo... it's a family/multi-family drama with some mystery regarding a couple missing kids. Bit confusing with all the different POVs (which I don't normally have trouble with) and all the time jumps... all over the place. Perhaps it would have been easier if I had read it physically instead of via audio. I did have my BOTM edition but I was busy reading other books physically and I like to listen to audiobooks while I'm walking and driving.
And I love me a chonky book but this was just way too long for what it was... the reveals were underwhelming considering the length.
I thought the pink paint thing would have a more significant meaning but that was dull. Also the title is misleading.. they referenced it one time in the book so I thought it was going to have something to do with some woods person or creature.. I will be unhauling it. I liked her other book Long Bright River much better.
