In the 1950s, my mother got a knee-control electric sewing machine. Previously, she sewed on my grandmother's treadle machine. Her new-fangled machine came with a buttonholer attachment and a couple of other attachments, one of which was a ruffler. I was a little girl, fascinated by the ruffler attachment. She'd often catch me under the machine cabinet, playing with the ruffler, trying to take it apart to see why it worked. My father sat me down for a serious talk about taking care of things and respect for other people's property. After that, he allowed me to help him in his carpentry shop. My first degree is in mechanical engineering. Today, all these decades later, I have a ruffler attachment for my sewing machine. I'm still fascinated by it. But I don't try to take it apart. I now know how it works.
Love this memory Thanks for sharing
I've never used a ruffler foot but I have used a gathering foot. Thanks for sharing Tova.

I was always afraid of this gadget. It looks like it bites. I'm glad I don't like ruffles.
