I already mentioned this in another of your videos. N64 was the console that I dreamed of having as a child and I couldn't. That's probably why it remained etched in my memory and in my heart as the best console that could have existed, and to this day it is also my all-time favorite. Thank you for this video, in my opinion a perfect summary to close the year and project a 2024 full of N64 magic. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

@@N64Muzak heck yeah. I played some on stream the other week and they were mind blowing. I’ll be looking into more in the near future! Specifically at Christmas!
You know what I realized? The N64 hate has been very quiet since you started this channel. And though I might’ve been late to the party, 26 years in fact, I still love the N64. Still getting new games for it to this day. It would’ve been nice to have nostalgia for the console, but at the same time, it feels great to play a game I just never got the chance to play. Donkey Kong 64, Banjo Tooie, and Conker’s Bad Fur Day are the top games on my list to buy for my N64.
I’m not lying. I got some good points on the N64 coming back as King. It really does have a lot going for it rn and in the near future and I’m super excited about it! Even people pushing the old hardware and creating new experiences. Events for the home brew scene?! Like it’s CRAZY MAN! What a time to get into 64 bits because there is a lot out there and coming on top of those classic games you mentioned!
Us Europeans got N64 in 1997, back then my favs. were GoldenEye 007 and Quake 64. I also liked N64 launch title Super Mario 64. Now I remember owning Yoshi's Story for N64. I'm talking about memories from late 90s, I still remember those 4 games in this comment and I used to have 8 games for N64 in late 90s.
Dude that is the absolute best! Spread the love! Your son will definitely remember all those games he played through with you! Be sure to do the classics!
Got mine last summer and gotta say its moving up my favorite of all time list. Its just so creative and tons if the games hold up really well and it is just plain fun. Especially muiltiplayer.
I took my n64 to a friend's kickback, and we played Pokemon stadium 2 for a good while, we mainly played the minigames, he even said why Nintendo doesn't make fun games like that. Lol
There's just something about how N64 games look and play that just captures my attention, when you sit down and play Mario 64, banjo or really any N64 game in the middle of the night at like 1 - 4 AM you just get this warm comfy feeling. No other system has really captured that besides maybe the Gamecube and the PS1 and 2, but the N64 is the one that captures that feeling the most for me. So when ever I've had a rough day I hook my N64 and I play some of my favorite games of all time!
Same! And I agree! The nostalgia hits hard and I think a lot of the games are small enough you can play through them, but big enough you can explore and be engaged in a world!
1998 Christmas - I asked Santa for an SNES and got an n64 with Mario 64 instead. Wasn’t too excited until I started playing it and understood this was the next big Nintendo console. I was blown away with that game and Mario kart 64. 1999 - my cousin told me about a game where you fight multiple yoshis and playable Nintendo characters all fighting. I just knew I had to get it. I rented super smash bros from blockbuster and was blown away once again. Never forgot when I had to return the game on Christmas Eve and my mom was saying maybe Santa can get it. The very next day super happy. 2000 - Pokemon was huge (still is) but was blown away by Pokemon stadium. 3D Pokemon battle games was peak. 2000 - Christmas time and I remember I asked for was Mario party 2. Still remember my sister and me woke up around 4am open up presents and played Mario party 2. Probably the best Mario party game of all time. 2001 - Summer was ending and I bought my first electronic gaming monthly magazine. It was e3 time, probably the best E3 of all time revealing GameCube, Xbox were coming and ps2 was just getting started, plus the final year of the Dreamcast. It was a beautiful time for gaming. But I didn’t want to give up on the n64 just yet. I felt that I wanted more time that if ps one was still there, then n64 needed to be there too. I never forgot that Christmas year when toys r us had big posters of GameCube , Xbox, ps2, Dreamcast, ps one revision, gba. But there was a poster that made me smile, it was Mario party 3. I was so happy the n64 still had one more Christmas left of not being completely forgotten and I ask my parents that is the only game I want Mario Party 3. I knew the console was being phased out and that it was its final year. And all I wanted was to appreciate the mighty console one last time. Thank you for the memories 🙏 PS - more memories were made again in 2012 - 2018 But today my friends have all moved on…. We’re all doing different things now.
My childhood console. Along with the SNES but I had six games for that and it was at my grandparents. I wouldn’t discover a lot of those classics until Wii VC. Mario 64 is probably my most nostalgic game, and then Banjo Kazooie came along and almost perfected the 3D platformer. Ocarina of Time is a timeless classic too. Also Mario Party 2 is still one of the best of the series
🥲 Awesome video I always loved my N64 But 2 days ago I packed my original N64 with 4 controls 20 games and accessories form my childhood which I got for Christmas from my mom and I was getting ready to sell it to retro game store and when I really thought about it this N64 will mean even more to me when my mom is no longer with me so I couldn't sell it.
DON’T EVER DO IT! I sold mine back in the day and my collection and I’ve regretted it! Been slowly reacquiring it all. Keep it in your family as long as you can :)
There's a really good wireless controller for Nintendo 64, they are around $28-$35 on eBay and look like the originals and function like them too, no input lag and an amazing analog stick .
They need to release an N64 mini with as many games as they can. Have it upscale the visuals so it looks good on modern displays and have some 2-4 controller options, all wireless controllers, people would pay good money for it and new people would get into this system
Yeah that would be so sweet! Goldeneye, Mario Kart, Smash Bros? Could put a lot of sweet couch multiplayer games on it people would love to have easily accessible!
Dude I love Smash! You should look into Remix if you haven’t! It’s everything you love about Smash 64 but with more content and it feels exactly right! It’s amazing! And thanks dude! I was really proud of that Goldeneye one tbh 😂
I got the remix with sonic and conker but there are two characters I haven't unlocked and don't know how to. also, I never save mainly cuz idk how to lol@@jiggylookback
I recently managed to buy a Nintendo 64 from a seller in Netherlands in near mint condition. I'm currently playing Rayman 2 and it's great, and now I've bought the Expansion Pak.
You've got a sub! Didn't know your channel yet, but as someone who loves the n64 (my favorite console of all time as well), you gotta have that sub. I love it so much I'm building a small collection of hdmi modded 64s. Most people who think the 64 is blurry, have no idea what it looks like with a clean digital signal and deblur feature. IMO, the best graphics ever. Full of charming retro looks, without looking extremely shaddy like PS1 or Saturn.
I agree 100% Thanks so much for subbing! Hope you like my content. I understand what they mean about the blurry look, but it's pretty minor and often multi platform games look a lot better on the 64 imo.
10 หลายเดือนก่อน
@@jiggylookback I'm enjoying the content a lot, starting first, no surprises here, by the big n64 games like Conker. Please do a Zelda video! Regarding the blurry look, I have a ton to say about that, because although just a teen in the 90s, I was already a 3d animator, I had a more solid grasp what the n64 had going for it, even in 1996. . The n64 contrary to internet herd mentality, is not blurry for the absolute most part of its library. What gave its fame as blurry were the first gen games, which came in at smaller carts and 1st gen Nintendo microcode. Games like Body Harvest, Top Gear Rally, Chameleon Twist, Turok 1, Buck Bumble, to name a few, formed the impression of heavy fog, heavy antialias and low res textures. Once devs addressed that with bigger carts and better microcodes, say from 1998 and onwards, the n64 delivered the most impressive graphics. . It's the first gen games people think of when criticizing the console, but once you go to powerhouses like Perfect Dark, Turok 2 and 3 (Turok 3 BTW looks like a PS2 game!), Conkers, Rayman, TWINE, DK64, both Zeldas, Indiana Jones, World Driver, Rogue Squadron, Sin and Punishment, or even forgotten gems like Neon Genesis Evangelion, the blurry talk completely fades away. It's simply not criticizable anymore. On these and so many others, textures are excellent and AA filter is really mild, but the internet rarely remembers those. Rare's unreleased Dinosaur Planet would have completely wiped out anything from the Saturn and PS1, but the internet also doesn't remember that. . The often mentioned cart as media problem, is not really a problem at all. Nintendo was greedy, and that's all. Carts were never a problem once we got to 24, 32 MB games and up. RE is the most famous case, but even Turok 2 clocking in at 32 MB, the so called blurry texture arguments completely disappeared. If Nintendo weren't so greedy and made 32 / 64 MB carts more accesible, we would never hear the "small textures" talk, not even once. . I could go on and on, tbh I'd love to talk about that for hours on my channel, but since it's all photography related, I can't... maybe you could make a video about that :D The n64 was (is) a powerhouse with Silicon Graphics DNA, punching way above any other mid 90s hardware, but as time went by, the internet herd mentality chose it to be the punching bag. People barely talk about actual, unforgivable things like Saturn's crude lighting or inability to do a simple transparency... or PS1 headache inducing texture warping and polygon wobbling, insane dirthering and small draw distance. The loading times, the chessy FMW, etc... But the blurry n64, oh boy, the internet loves to beat that note, without ever realizing it only affected 1st gen n64 games. So much injustice floating around regarding this milestone console.
@ exactly. I don’t get how anyone could think games like DK64, Perfect Dark, or even Starfox 64 look blurry at all. They just don’t know. Still holds up pretty well which is extra impressive being some of the first at home truly 3d games. The warping in PS1 games is wayyyyy more annoying than anything else imo. Nightmare creatures is a good example how the N64 version looks better compared to its Ps1 counterpart. Highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of both consoles but the 64 textures stand up pretty well to the higher capacity Ps1 version.
I'm literally getting one tomorrow and I already have a few games ready to go like Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie and I manged to get a boxed copy of Yoshi's Story with the manual at a very cheap price yesterday so I'm excited to get this system

The King returned, when the world needed it the most. Also, randomizers of games like Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Banjo-Kazooie, and DK64 are super fun to play! I hope someone makes a Banjo-Tooie one soon.
What makes you think 2024 specifically is going to be huge for the N64? I know the Analogue is supposed to come out, but just curious why else? I personally think the N64 is king every year, because It's my favorite console and I play it regularly as a retro gamer on original hardware. The original controller is also a must because of the versatility it allows with the D-pad with first person shooters. No one wants to use those dumb c-buttons. Let's stay modern.
I love this! I also am a big proponent of playing the original hardware! My reasoning for it King in 2024 (aside from getting people curious) Is yes the Analogue 3d coming, the recent release of the Polymega Ultra and other HDMI N64 devices, also everdrives and things It seems we’re ramping up! Though quality varies. The mod scene is growing like crazy! With games like Smash Remix getting crazy updates. Kurko Mods pushing out more content. And even modern games being made in that specific N64 style like Super Kiwi 64! The attention the 64 is getting recently online with creators like James Lambert pushing the console to its limit and creating interesting experiences, Kaze Emanuar optimizing older games like Mario 64, and dare I say myself…advocating a second look at lots of games on the console! The N64 online expansion pack on Switch is also bringing attention to the 64 library and getting people to play games they haven’t previously been exposed too! It just seems that recently this console is seeing a resurgence in appreciation and content which is super cool which is why I stated it as King in 2024, but really it’s been growing for a while here! And I LOVE IT!
I remember there was also some frog decal in one of the angry aztec temples where you rescue Tiny. I thought there was a way to unlock the frog from dkc.
I bought a second hand Everdrive with dev functionality for a super decent price and I finally dug out my 64. It's awesome having the complete library at my fingertips on real hardware. I've been replaying Space Station Silicon Valley and I recommend it. It's such a quirky, but often overlooked N64 game.
I definitely agree, its my favorite console of all-time, Prob because this game console has the most child-like wonderment in its games, some people view that as a weakness i think... but fuck that. that stuff is what makes it amazing. I hope they make "The N64 2", that would be something, it would have "Banjo-Threeie", "Super mario 64 2", "Diddy kong racing 2", etc, etc, etc, etc, etc
Well, the N64 was actually the console that had me finally switch sides to a competitor (Sony’s PlayStation has 10 times more worthy titles.) That said, the N64’s best are truly incredible, from Mario to Conker. Paper Mario, in fact, is one of my favorite RPGs.
the n64 might be king in 2024, but it should have been when it really mattered the most. when i look at what the gameboy advance and the DS; and the nes and snes had in terms of third party support i felt the n64 missed out on something similar to the releases both handheld formats had, as well as its predecessors, the saturn and ps1. it didn't need wipeout 64 or ridge racer 64 really, some games like rev limit and riqua needed to make production, and some action games didn't need to be first person shooters either. some lightgun games would have been nice in a similar vein to time crisis, virtua cop, house of the dead, gunblade NY, behind enemy lines and point blank, a game where luigi has his own adventure and a game which is a mix of driver and grand theft auto. basically it needed less kiddie oriented titles to take the fight to playstation.
@@TheoAtilade that’s true it did need more 3rd party support. I will say tho…the games that shined really really shined and are still talked about today. Zelda Mario Banjo Smash Bros Lots of phenomenal games by first and second party studios. Let’s not forget until recently a game like Doom64 was only available on the 64. The mod scene now is giving us new content for this console. And I dig it. I do wish that library was doubled to tripled in size.
I had an N64 as a kid but sadly had to part ways with it and my games, but I bought a new one from Ebay in 2018 because I loved the mini consoles that Nintendo released, but got impatient waiting for them to announce an N64 version, and I knew that if N64 ever came to Switch, it would be tied to that dumb subscription service, and would have a very limited library. So I bought a real N64 and an everdrive, I've got a new NES, SNES, GBC, GBA, and Wii since then but the N64 is s till what I'd call my best purchase. Not the biggest library, but man are the best games on it some of the best i've played. And the romhacking scene is so good, I've probably finished more romhacks for N64 than any other console. And things are looking promising now that people are getting Zelda 64 hacks out more often, and ones that work on console too. But nobody makes me happier to have an N64 than Mark Kurko and his wonderful Banjo mods, full of N64 easter eggs. Only thing I wish was better was Mario 64 hacks not being compatible with real consoles.
I know Mark Kurko he does great work! I actually may try to get him on to chat about Banjo mods and do an analyzing and review of like Jiggies in Time :)
Most people in my age group had "grown out of videogames" when the N64 finally came to Europe in 1997, but even my PC gamer friend acknowledged what a big deal Ocarina was. The system was pivotal for gaming as a whole, but Nintendo undeniably lost the 5th and 6th gen console wars. Few teens or young adults owned an N64 or Gamecube. When they were showcasing Metroid Prime on a big screen in a local con, an adult asked "What system is this for?" I felt like saying "Dude, you don't know Metroid?", but honestly Nintendo had lost mainstream relevance. Heard a teen say "Nintendo used to be huge, but now they are basically nothing" at the same con. Pokemon totally saved Nintendo by creating a "middle" generation of fans.

The n64 is without a doubt the most overhated console in my opinion. Its without a doubt in my mind the greatest console of all time. I feel like i have to defend it at least once a week from people that think they know what they're talking about. Its so incredible and had such a vast library that people refuse to dig through. Even if you dont, the top 40 games on the console are enough to keep you happy for decades. The early 3d models are great, the controller is the best, and it was the last console where Nintendo was at their peak. It's such an amazing console, and I'm glad you're a fan.
Absolutely I have always had to defend it to naysayers for a long time. Most cutting the small library 388 to the ps1s massive one, but the 64 games are still getting talked about today as some of the greatest games of all time vs most of the PS1 library. I think that says a lot! (This is not a hate ps1 comment just a N64 support comment)
I believe the Everdrives will play all region versions of games. So if you get the NTSC version and play it on your pal console as long as your tv supports it it can run at 60hz
I mean generally I’d agree with that! Tho some games like Banjo and Conker look really good still! It really just depends, but the vast majority had fog and muddy colored textures for sure.
Not first analogue stick by a long shot. Hell even pong consoles often had analogue sticks. The first analogue stick with tight- digital style- use and experience that were built for it - YES. You may have well of put a Mario hat on the stick.
First analogue stick that DIDN’T suck. Lol it auto centered which is huge over other home sticks. I do acknowledge it wasn’t the first tho. Although when you read online it states it’s the first. Not sure why that is the claim I had seen.
That’s a hot take 😂 DK64 and Banjo tooie still look pretty good. I think it really depends on the game. And the N64 generally looked a lot better than the Saturn and PS1 but that’s subjective so you’re welcome to think otherwise, no hate to other consoles. The Saturn did kill with the 2d sprite work!

Never did understand all the hubbub about the controller
I think it was pretty forward thinking honestly. It’s not perfect…but super well thought out for the first go around in 3d!
I find it to be comfortable and it works, never understood the hate either.
It was e3 time, probably the best E3 of all time revealing
GameCube, Xbox were coming and ps2 was just getting started, plus the final year of the Dreamcast.
Thank you for the memories 🙏
PS - more memories were made again in 2012 - 2018
But today my friends have all moved on….
We’re all doing different things now.
Love the memories! It’s funny I wanted a Sega Genesis for Christmas and got a 64. But oh man did Donkey Kong, Mario, and Banjo mean the world to me!
Love the transitions, great vid!
THANK YOU! I worked hard on the transitions! My favorite was the goldeneye watch.
i love this console and still play it... almost every weekend. i love your videos.
I probably play mine two to 3 times a week depending. It just never gets old! Always something new to play.
All hail the fun machine.🎉
Yes!! All hail
There has never been a game like Waverace64
I mean. It is iconic.
I agree with all those. Mario Party 2 I think is my favorite of that series! Costumes were dope!
@@jiggylookback My sister and I played that one so much. Space Land is still one of my favorite boards
@@robertlauncher heck yeah! Star warrior Donkey Kong!! Haha
Good and fun video man.
Thanks for watching! Gotta love the N64!!
Smash Bros is my all time most played game. Still play it all the time. Excellent transitions in your video btw
Also conker is cheating imo. that dang chainsaw
I recently managed to buy a Nintendo 64 from a seller in Netherlands in near mint condition. I'm currently playing Rayman 2 and it's great, and now I've bought the Expansion Pak.
Heck yeah!! Rayman 2 gets expansion pak benefits! You can up the resolution! Be sure to check it out in settings!
I plan to buy Command & Conquer next.
@@The_Amazing_Mario_Bros_Show all banger games!!
When you playthrough I highly recommend picking up:
Diddy Kong Racing, Banjo Tooie, Perfect Dark, and Zelda Ocarina of Time
Those are all so different and special!
@@jiggylookback Have them on my list! I'm gonna buy Mario Party next week and I found a copy of Ocarina of Time when I was at my local game store yesterday so I can get those two games. And yes I'm currently looking for Diddy Kong Racing and Banjo-Tooie.
I have more favorite games on the N64 that I still play than I have on any other Nintendo system since Gamecube.
Yeah same!
Is the N64 mini ever going to get a launch?
I wish. It seems like Nintendo abandoned that idea. I’ll be excited when they release more N64 games on switch online tho.
The King returned, when the world needed it the most.
Also, randomizers of games like Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Banjo-Kazooie, and DK64 are super fun to play! I hope someone makes a Banjo-Tooie one soon.
Yeah we really need Tooie mods! I’m waiting!
The N64 may not have done very well, but it truly is a phenomenal console. Keep it up, bro.
Thanks bro! Appreciate it!
The N64 is my favorite Console of all time!
Me too!!! Love it
I remember there was also some frog decal in one of the angry aztec temples where you rescue Tiny. I thought there was a way to unlock the frog from dkc.
That would have been sweet
I bought a second hand Everdrive with dev functionality for a super decent price and I finally dug out my 64. It's awesome having the complete library at my fingertips on real hardware. I've been replaying Space Station Silicon Valley and I recommend it. It's such a quirky, but often overlooked N64 game.
Yes! I love space station Silicon Valley! I played it a ton growing up! Taking control of weird animal robot hybrids was awesome
@@jiggylookback It was! Also the fact that it was made by the company that went on to make GTA will never not amuse me.
@@NezuChan I did not know that
@@jiggylookback Yes, DMA Designs eventually became Rockstar. DMA also worked on Body Harvest for the 64, another experimental game.
@@NezuChan I did know that one! Awesome 😎
I believe the n64 is already kong no matter what
Interesting choice of words 🦍
I definitely agree, its my favorite console of all-time, Prob because this game console has the most child-like wonderment in its games, some people view that as a weakness i think... but fuck that. that stuff is what makes it amazing. I hope they make "The N64 2", that would be something, it would have "Banjo-Threeie", "Super mario 64 2", "Diddy kong racing 2", etc, etc, etc, etc, etc
It really did! The first sense of really exploring a ton in 3d worlds and lots of experimentation. It was special :)
The Nintendo 64 will always be king 👑
You’re darn right.
Definitely had a very similar childhood! Same console and same dk64
Heck yeah! Love that game!
I loved Rayman 2 so much.
Followed by Mario 64, Smash bros, Mystical Ninja 1 and 2
All fantastic.
Zelda
Mario
Banjo
Smash Bros
Lots of phenomenal games by first and second party studios. Let’s not forget until recently a game like Doom64 was only available on the 64.
The mod scene now is giving us new content for this console. And I dig it.
I do wish that library was doubled to tripled in size.

I still have mine and still kicking. Got the switch controllers to play n64 games 😊
@@s2d heck yeah!
Im thinking of getting one. Should I? I might try out the games on wii first to see if i like them (i know i will)

3DS is my favorite but the N64 is sooo cool and I never owned one but used emulators
100% it is! Love the N64! It’s even better on original hardware
Hey man is true that everdrive 64 makes all ntsc games run at 60hz faster fps on pal n64
I believe the Everdrives will play all region versions of games. So if you get the NTSC version and play it on your pal console as long as your tv supports it it can run at 60hz
I don't know about king I'd give that to the switch but for old consoles only I'd give n64 second place 1st would be gamecube for me
GameCube is dope. Love it.
Nostalgia goggles are a bitch...
However, it doesn't hold up today graphically quite like SNES does!! I prefer gamecube ofcorse.
I mean generally I’d agree with that! Tho some games like Banjo and Conker look really good still! It really just depends, but the vast majority had fog and muddy colored textures for sure.
N64 is the best. Mario Kart 64 was my 1st game - Diddy Kong Racing my 2nd. Gaming all the games still😄
Such bangers!
Now we just need a multiplat smash game with arthur morgan and master chief
That’d be epic
Id rather play a sega Saturn the N64s graphics aged like milk 🥛
That’s a hot take 😂 DK64 and Banjo tooie still look pretty good. I think it really depends on the game. And the N64 generally looked a lot better than the Saturn and PS1 but that’s subjective so you’re welcome to think otherwise, no hate to other consoles.
The Saturn did kill with the 2d sprite work!
Watch th-cam.com/video/-nhhfYkluT0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=M8TNGOPXeRM2PkW2 to see much better the n64 could have been. Maze has squeezed so much more out of the Cadillac of consoles.
