What a great documentary of the beginning fo this movement and the life of John Wesley! Thank you for creating it. I used the for the first time for my membership class today (May 2023) and the class loved it. It was very informative, moving and helpful to understand the roots of our Methodist churches.

anglican and methodism almost same , just got little bit different (on theology), but both also have the same idea about how to be save , that is belive jesus christ as our lord. this is the most important . and we can see Jesus keep blessing this two church and keep growing !
let me give example, if a church say you need to know install linux server to be save and go heaven , this is wrong. god will not bless this church

@@CheapBurger you're not in the west. the General Synod voted for a proposal for the blessing of same sex marriages in February 24, & this has subsequently been approved by the house of Bishops. so, welcome to the woke Church of England. not sure how this will pan out because the UK, & the west in general, are slowly becoming islamicized

@@CheapBurger you can believe it. my earlier reply was deleted for some reason, but yes, it was proposed at the general synod, & subsequently passed by the council of Bishops. I was hardly surprised as it is deemed more appropriate for the church to bend Biblical beliefs than for people to adopt their lifestyles and conform to Biblical teachings. The great thing about Wesleyan doctrine is that it can be applied to any denomination. Even if you don’t believe in entire sanctification, it should be something you want to believe and work towards. To be holy as Christ is holy and to see and act towards the world the way He sees and acts towards it.

Doubtless many of those girls became mothers who performed the same 'much more limited' role in the next generation!

Hi friends , what seems dumb way is Gods ways , to God all things can be solved , Yes , what is impossible with men, it seems possible to God it is easy . We all can never assume what is in the heart of God, Even Paul a man against Christ Jesus was changed by the power of God , on the road to Damascus. "The Gospel . . . is the power of God for salvation to everyone who has faith, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed through faith for faith” (Romans 1:16-17).

Interesting documentary. I am bearly learning what Methodists are. I like the open air sermons and the concern for the poor. However I do prefer salvation by works, which is the opposite of the Methodist idea of salvation by grace. However the salvation of grace is used well in the context. It gives a break to the poor people who struggle. Personally I think the difficulty of living in poverty should already be payment for sin. This is a radical idea of mine. I like to think that all sins one commits should be subtracted by the hardships of life. The biggest factor in hardship is economic class. This creates a kind of net sin. That determins how much sin to work off in the afterlife before going to Heavin. The place of working off sin would be Purgatory. There are two main things to help get a lower amount of net sin, which helps one move to a Heavin quicker. The first factor is being a good person and so committing less sin. The second factor is living a difficult life. The difficulty can involve things like labor, punishment and imprisonment. It especially involves being discriminated by society in some way. The biggest is living in poverty. So there is an idea that minorities get into Heaven faster, while still being accountable for thier actions. This fast access makes up for the difficulty of life. That may be an uplifting thing to preach to the poor. It would help them feel better. It would be good to know that thier hard work and turmoil will pay off. This system is a lot harsher on majority, especially rulers. They are going to have more sin to work off in the afterlife, because it wasn't paid for by as much hardship. I also make tyranny and discrimination two of my seven major sins. The other sins are theft, shunning, abuse, deciet and violence. So if the majority was mistreating the minority, that is more sin to work off in the afterlife. I like to imagine the people getting an easier time getting to reward in afterlife. It is hope. I would like to add this as an incentive to do the good deeds of charity and community service. I like how Jesus advocated for charity and stood up fir the poor. If the Methodist could be like that, that would be lovely.

I was raised Methodist in Texas. In fact I was baptized and attended the largest Methodist church on the planet...a huge Gothic place on the grounds of Southern Methodist University called Highland Park Methodist. That part of my family were well off and Bible believers who went to church a lot. My Mother's parents were Oklahoma pioneers and very devout Methodists. They are more like the spirit of early Methodism...hymns at home, Sunday School, small wooden churches. They were methodical and debt free and had the best sense of humor ever.
Granddaddy had a grocery store in West Texas and passed food out to poor black and Indian families from the back door (save embarrassment). Grandmother was a wonderful seamstress and made clothes for those sorts of people nearby, who couldn't even afford fabric. Their idea of Justification by Faith was having the complete complacency of trust and doing your duty....with a 6th grade education he had several small businesses and became a school board president and a mayor of a tiny town. I think John and Charles would be proud of them!
I became a Catholic at 26 inspired (some would say overinspired) by St. Francis. I love being eclectic with Christian and sometimes Jewish theology...finding the very identical points in all expressed in cultural or linguistic styles. For instance, John Wesley and St. Alphonsus Liguori, were almost contemporaries and very, very similar pastors.
St. Liguori had many gifts and was very warm and down to earth (very Naples!)....he saw hell and said the #1 Gate was hatred of other people. I'm Matthew's mother, Deanna...his account()

Today"s Methodist Church is different from John Wesley's one. In South Africa they didn't preach Salvation and that brings fights in families, because some are born again Christians. They do rituals that are not Godly and when some family members refuse to do those rituals, there's a conflict.

Ashley Ray: if your question is the race of the people that came to hear the "open air" preaching of Wesley, I'm not a historian or English, however it's my understanding that at the time and place, at least in England, they were mostly Caucasians, maybe a few Black people. When he preached in America, they were probably mostly Caucasian, Native American and some Black people. I'm just assuming this from the video and what history I do know about the people that lived in those areas at that time.
