In Japan the game was always for 13+ and at 4 local game shops near me there isn't anyone in there below the age of 15 playing yugioh. It used to be more marketed in America that way when the cards were simpler but no longer the case now.

It is important to remember that if your opponent writes the life points down and you use a calculator, if there is a dispute between life points the judge will refer to the HAND WRITTEN (un-edited) notes. If your opponent says you took 2200 and you said it was 1800, you can get screwed over like this. Maybe replace the calculator with pen and paper.

i dont play anymore use to too play old rules still have my two decks use to collect fiends and machines the rules have changed so much since i played like pendulum sync etc dont think id get on with it prefer the old rules where a duel could last ages

You don't have to bring this, but I always do to my yugioh locals. Video games (handheld only). To have your own entertainment at a event or to catch cheaters.
Best advice i can give, is don't play Yugioh the day before a big event. Seems counter intuitive but if you've spent weeks play testing not playing Yugioh one day won't make you a worse player. Plus, it allows you to come back with a fresh mind for the event. And don't stay up all night playtesting. I also take all my stuff in a duffle bag so i can have everything where I need it, to prevent my stuff getting stolen

I had no clue that YCS Houston is this weekend! I will be, by happy circumstance, in Houston this weekend anyway visiting family. Will probably go check it out. I have very recently gotten back into the game. I love the Zombie Decks and am currently building a Skull King deck and a Shiranui Deck, waiting on the Sage support to come out so it can actually have some speed to it and stop being so damn slow. Also trying to incorporate Burning Skull into either to get some of the lower lvl xyz and synchro summon while doing LP damage. Good video, helpful for people like me who don't do regionals often.
Another thing too but this is also preference but use a duffle bag not your school backpack because it will save you hassle from cleaning out the school backpack for any events. also too duffle bags are easier to carry stuff that could be heavy like binders and stuff.
I also like to bring sealed booster packs, sometimes OTS packs. A lot of people will take the trade on it for something of medium value that you need. Just this weekend I swapped a POTE pack for a set of Dimmensional Barriers that I needed, but didn’t have any cards that the other player wanted in my trade binder.
A few things to add. Players are bat shit crazy! So have a folding knife and small spray mace handy for defense. Small pad lock to lock the zippers on your bag. Also learn self defense and close quarters combat so when you are walking between you home/car/hotel to the gaming tables you have some protection. These players will kill for your cards or some who are sore losers. Remember that safety is key to these fun events.
I'm the guy that always brings tokens, not even for me, but for my opponent. It's always nice to have your opponent say "I gotchu bro" and hand you a spare token.
I have a perfect way for your cards to never be stolen again at events. if you have a tablet or a phone take pics of all your cards and let people swipe until there fingers bleed lol. no but seriously duelist make sure you have a GPS app on your device. just incase you run into a weevil. track his ass down he will not get away!! taking pics of all your cards might be pain staking. but at least you wont get got. one last thing dont stop dueling because of this new system I know for a lot of us it sucks but Konami is doing this to reach the young generation. thats how they keep there name alive. I brought deodorant to a Pokemon event recently (London international championships) but it wasn't allowed inside (as a propelled spray) so they confiscated the spray can. So if you're bringing deodorant, make sure it's a roller I guess instead of a spray can.
If you have thrift stores or flea markets near by a lot of vendors there will have random Yu-Gi-Oh/Pokemon cards. You will have to do a lot of digging since the cards they have are always really old but I've found some really good xyz monsters and even a blue-eyes alternative with a friend one time
1) deck 2) deck box 3) back up sleeves 4) ID 5) money 6) note pad & pen / some way to keep life. 7) phone 8) phone charger 9) a bag to keep it all in 10) ticket home
You forgot to add in one thing, a deck list of your deck and a small stapler so you can fill out the main event form, staple the list onto the sheet and your good to go and check the ban list. And bring some decks for fun play at least one in case you want to just play for fun.

I have a perfect way for your cards to never be stolen again at events. if you have a tablet or a phone take pics of all your cards and let people swipe until there fingers bleed lol. no but seriously duelist make sure you have a GPS app on your device. just incase you run into a weevil. track his ass down he will not get away!! taking pics of all your cards might be pain staking. but at least you wont get got. one last thing dont stop dueling because of this new system I know for a lot of us it sucks but Konami is doing this to reach the young generation. thats how they keep there name alive. go to the nearest official card shop and ask for the crossy ID you can look the stores up on the yugioh-card.com site

I brought deodorant to a Pokemon event recently (London international championships) but it wasn't allowed inside (as a propelled spray) so they confiscated the spray can. So if you're bringing deodorant, make sure it's a roller I guess instead of a spray can.

If you have thrift stores or flea markets near by a lot of vendors there will have random Yu-Gi-Oh/Pokemon cards. You will have to do a lot of digging since the cards they have are always really old but I've found some really good xyz monsters and even a blue-eyes alternative with a friend one time

You forgot to add in one thing, a deck list of your deck and a small stapler so you can fill out the main event form, staple the list onto the sheet and your good to go and check the ban list. And bring some decks for fun play at least one in case you want to just play for fun.
