Absolutely I have to give it to the people who made it for the time before things like tcgpalyer or trollandtoad or before local game shops were super prevalent for younger kids that couldn’t have their parents help all the time this video would have been fantastic for showing them how to not abuse your cards how to not act like a dingus and how to get better cards without the randomness of packs. As well as taught the basics and some minor combos of the game.
I AM that kinda smug bastard friend, and I agree lol. When I was teaching my friend, I only explained traps to him after dropping a Mirror Force on him.
I taught my younger bro, but I didn't use starter decks to teach him lol. we literally just bought packs and construct our decks (they didn't have starter decks in our local store, but at least it was a chance to teach him how to balance the deck) gotta admit tho, when the "student" got the upper hand the "teacher" never felt "fine" xD like, we basically broke a sweat because we didn't wanna lose lol

I like how they essentially fix common misconceptions that the anime created. Sure 2000 life points seems fine at first, until you learn that you can attack directly.
🤣i mean, it was fine with the rules and the cards at that time in the anime and manga. especially since attacking directly wasn't a thing, because the writer wanted the game to just be a battle of monsters at first (with trap and "magic" cards to support them) ATK of 1400-1600 was already uncommon then. anything beyond 2000 was rare and cards with 2500-3000 were the pinnacle of monsters

I love how the show was like: "8000 LP? That'll make the duels last an eternity!" And in real life we're like: "4000 LP? Ho do you even survive more than a turn if it's that low??"
I genuinely love this so much. It's oozing personality. The "How to draw manga" artstyle of the cover, the kids' acting, the super cheesy quotes like "this will level the playing field a little", breaking the 4th wall and looking at the healthbars, everything about this screams 'passion project of a couple kids from early 2000s' that you can't help but feel nostalgic about it even if you haven't seen it before.
Ethan using a Kaiba deck: Beatdown through sheer force and dominates the duel Bradly using a Yugi deck: On the ropes the entire duel until it comes down to the wire, then busts out a game winning combo at the last second. Its like im watching the anime come to life before my very eyes
Takes me back to the days when I had so many cards and no one to duel me that I made two decks and would vs myself at my dining room table lmao and I convinced myself that I could best Yugi Muto if he existed
This looks like it has more value than some TH-cam videos. I mean, take a look at this, it even aged like fine wine despite the game evolving so much to the point most YGO players that already know their thing would consider this cave man YGO.
I say there wasn’t necessarily a lot of money put into the graphics, most likely it was just a few guys who had a real passion and skill for designing graphics and animations.. especially considering this whole production was done by a small, third party company. despite their obvious age, they still look really nice

Been playing card games all my life and just real talk that moment where he asks, “May I touch your cards?” was a moment of pure kindness and respect. Cannot tell you how many times I have been in tournaments where somebody is snatching and grabbing your cards! 😤
Team APS needs to do their own 2021 version of this video (maybe even a video series)! It would definitely be entertaining and actually help newcomers to the game.
They should hire these kids again as adults teaching the newer yugioh rules with the premise that Bradley wants to go through a nostalgia trip, and Ethan is like a regular YGO competitive player or something. Same cool effects, same slow and easy to understand explanations, some old and new cheesy kind hearted rivalry.

The mechanic as far as i understand, summoning 3 cards that can make a single big monster on the field that gains effect of all the 3 monster, and their ATK increased when they are in maximum mode (aka when all 3 cards on the field) This summoning mechanic only exclusive to the RUSH format

THIS is nostalgia, when it hits you right in your guts! Me and my best friend always used to play yugioh after school, eat dinner together and made countless sleepovers at weekends just to play even more yugioh past over our sleep time. I just love this video!
Actually, these kind of "unofficial/unauthorized products" like strategy guides, expansion/add-ons and whatnot that compliment the said official product that it was supplementing was incredibly common back in the mid 90s and early 2000s. Back then, you will less likely to get into legal trouble from the actual owners of said IP from producing and selling these stuffs commercially not to mention the majority of people back then barely have access to the internet at home.

I enjoyed the fact the decks came with 50 back in the day. Remove 10 cards for consistency and everyone always picked different 40 (or just exchanged cards with previously owned cards) for a different experience.

Forget yugioh, I would've loved to have seen a video like this when I started playing card games in general to understand the importance of sleeves, card value, and even the ability to buy singles off online sellers.

Honestly, Its a good DVD. It has a setting that works, and explains all the basics even to the formalities. The only things it really left out were fusions and rituals

One day, I think it would be hilarious if you tried to successfully play a game duelist kingdom style, where anything goes so long as you can come up with a good reason why it works. It would be a mixture between Yu-Gi-Oh and an RPG game

Man, the amount of SDK Blue-eyes and SDY Dark Magicians that would have been saved if kids learned about sleeves back in the day Also, why didn't they mention how to ban your opponent's soul to the shadow realm? It's pretty useful sometimes. Well, you at least have to know how to protect yourself against it.

My wife actually found a couple copies of the Advanced DVD at a pawn shop once years ago and picked them up for me. I don't know where they went, but I do know that the full videos for all three have been uploaded to TH-cam. They're surprisingly decent for the time, actually mostly accurately explaining the rules and even getting into some of the meta of the time. Granted, I think it was mostly playground meta, but they also got into stuff like old school beatdown and Exodia builds, staples like Raigeki, Feather Duster, and Jinzo. They used a lot of the jargon I remember from back in fifth grade when I played with my Dad and brother at the weekly Books A Million tournaments, constantly losing to the older kids and adults who could afford stuff like Mirror Force, Yata, and BLS, haha.
Halfway threw the video and clearly the older methods from when I was a kid are deffinetly better than now I love the classic cards to and still use them to this day good job bringing this dvd up paul ur a good dude
The modern way is just frustrating and lackluster. I still play the old-school way, which is not impossible but difficult to keep up. Anyway, I waited 15 minutes on the second turn for this dude to set up a 1-combo K.O. It's like they don't like the back and forth duels anymore. Dude, a game that ends in 2 turns is not a fun duel; it's just a boring slaughter.
I wish I would have saw this video 18 years ago when I first got into Yu-Gi-Oh. I didn’t know anything about card sleeves, buying singles, phases, combos, even booster packs, just structure decks and a rubber band to keep them together 😂
In defense, in my language, Celtic is translated as "Céltico" (pronounced like "sell thikoh"), so, since I never hear Celtic in English (don't like American Football), I'm like... wow I've been pronouncing that word wrong for nearly twenty years... I feel like an idiot.

Konami thinks Master Format Duel is getting too complicated and complex that turn off new generation players. Maybe the reason why they invented SD and RD, so that players, out of their curiosity,would proceed to learn and play master duel with less difficulties and confusion.

Honestly, Its a good DVD. It has a setting that works, and explains all the basics even to the formalities. The only things it really left out were fusions and rituals

This is actually like way higher quality than I ever expected after seeing that tweet about this.
One time I was being taught by a friend and we went out to walk my dog for like an hour and left the cards there on the table.
My wife actually found a couple copies of the Advanced DVD at a pawn shop once years ago and picked them up for me. I don't know where they went, but I do know that the full videos for all three have been uploaded to TH-cam. They're surprisingly decent for the time, actually mostly accurately explaining the rules and even getting into some of the meta of the time. Granted, I think it was mostly playground meta, but they also got into stuff like old school beatdown and Exodia builds, staples like Raigeki, Feather Duster, and Jinzo. They used a lot of the jargon I remember from back in fifth grade when I played with my Dad and brother at the weekly Books A Million tournaments, constantly losing to the older kids and adults who could afford stuff like Mirror Force, Yata, and BLS, haha.
Kid duelists are not toxic.

Halfway threw the video and clearly the older methods from when I was a kid are deffinetly better than now I love the classic cards to and still use them to this day good job bringing this dvd up paul ur a good dude
The modern way is just frustrating and lackluster. I still play the old-school way, which is not impossible but difficult to keep up. Anyway, I waited 15 minutes on the second turn for this dude to set up a 1-combo K.O. It's like they don't like the back and forth duels anymore. Dude, a game that ends in 2 turns is not a fun duel; it's just a boring slaughter.

I wish I would have saw this video 18 years ago when I first got into Yu-Gi-Oh. I didn’t know anything about card sleeves, buying singles, phases, combos, even booster packs, just structure decks and a rubber band to keep them together 😂

Edit: On the life points, 2000 was a recess game, 4000 was lunch and 8000 was after school. And way back when, I remember you could spot the fake cards extremely easily back when they were called magic cards... most fakes would use "spell cards"

@@beefiestsurprise269 back in the 2000's you can rent DVD's from Netflix and they send them via mail. You can rent it as long as you want and you reseal the envelope to return the dvd. This was before streaming was even thought of.

There is a reason why Konami invented Speed Duel, duel links in android and Rush Duel. Konami thinks Master Format Duel is getting too complicated and complex that turn off new generation players. Maybe the reason why they invented SD and RD, so that players, out of their curiosity,would proceed to learn and play master duel with less difficulties and confusion.
