My Daughter and myself visited Windsor Castle a few days before Christmas. Queens Mary's Dolls House was the highlight of the whole day. It was enthralling and we took our time, trying to take in everything we saw. We walked around twice and still saw things we'd missed on the first go round. What a marvellous work of art this is - a masterpiece no less. I wanted to play with it or live in it. Where's Alice with her shrinking mushrooms when you need her 😊
My doll house was made of cardboard with cardboard furniture which was covered in scraps of cloth left over from my mother and grandmother's sewing. Cardboard, fabric, glue, Popsicle sticks, jewelry chain , child's paint set and some imagination. It probably cost less than $10 to make but in was priceless to me.
The amount of creative, genius and attention detail that was put into this project is absolutely stunning from the miniature miniatures, to the clocks by Faberge in miniature, and the alabaster bathtub, the books in the library, and the working electricity, and I think that this was completed over 100 years ago I think says something of their genius
@ Yes, 1953. It was tin. Came flat in a box, the three sides snapped together and the gabled roof was two pieces, snapped on. It was two levels, make believe staircase. Very basic, but I loved it.
Such is the quality and attention to detail, one could be touring through a real house. It’s only when a gloved hand is seen, that it is apparent that it is a doll’s house. Stunning.
Cartier clocks! Only the best of the best. This dolls house is priceless and so beautiful. Few years ago I went to Windsor to see it and was closed 😢 for some reason
I missed the first part of this video showing the actual doll’s house and started watching the video from the entrance hall. I literally thought this was a real castle and only twigged on when you got to the library.😂 I thought you were showing the place where the dolls house was located😂 what an incredible dolls house 😮💕🇦🇺💕
What a beautiful presentation, well done! I read somewhere that the doll house boasts a wine caller with miniature bottles contains a few drops of vintage wine! 🍾
@@nancysimpson9045 I couldn't help thinking how much money was spent on all the rich materials, marble, silk, velvet, the workmanship required; it had to be a fortune. Yet they had many subjects living in abject poverty.
I really like doll houses!!! I want to start collecting details and start decorating various elements and I have a number in mind that it will be expensive 🤣🤣 ❤❤
Seems to me that the room mentioned here in the House served both purposes...sink on one side and cabinets on the other. Could the historian refer to it by either name then, technically?
@@annaharrington3869Most of the time, those areas were separate. The kitchen of a large house like that had the kitchen proper with stoves, sometimes a separate area of ovens, rotisseries, spits, and hearth fires with soypl and stock pots. Then there was a Butler's Pantry where the China, crystal, silver, candelabras, centerpieces, vases, etc., were kept. And, of course the cellars for storing beer, wine and spirits. I read somewhere that those kitchens were huge because they had to feed as many as 300-600 people per day. Just imagine how much bread alone that would require on a daily basis!
Hello, the Dolls' House is located at Windsor Castle and is available to view by the public as part of their visit. You can also find out more on our website if you can't make it in person: www.rct.uk/collection/stories/queen-marys-dolls-house
I feel so fortunate to have seen this dolls house at Windsor. I always wanted to see it after seeing an article years before in Readers Digest. I was a child then and treasured the article of this amazing house.
My mouth is hanging open with amazement😮😮Absolutely breathtaking and filled with miniature works of art. ❤Just purchased my first dollhouse kit and this video just magnified my excitement!!! 🥰
Well there seems to be some sort of trend going on with miniature dollhouse like objects Ive even seen them in Walmart. People are interested in small detailed household items and things like that. Trendy😅
This was so interesting to see. I ordered a shadow box kit from Woodbests called a Book Nook that's 3D. Will be the closest to making a doll house I'll ever do.
The amount if work this meta royal doll house in micro scale took is simply staggering and equally rather disturbing. Mary was obsessed with things. Objet d'art was never safe with her around. Her Majesty was a little klepto to boot. A rather greedy Queen with an odd need to see the world as a dollhouse. Maybe we are all in dollhouses of somekind?
A house for dolls that children play with. All the furniture is miniatures. The house either opens up or has the front wall missing so that the children can have their dolls in the various rooms.
Books actually written in famous authors' hands in miniature, is incredible. Also loved the penny kettle.

This is much more than a Dolls House, it's a work of art.
It's stunning. It was created in part to be a showcase for the best of the different artists who were alive at the time.
Looking at the little details, it's amazing, just like the real thing.❤
@@squirrel-p28 very true, it even has electric and running water. It is amazing.
All the best dollhouses are stunning works of art.
I think any child would love to have something like this. Not going to lie. I'm nearly an adult and I would love something like this
I agree with you
I’m 50, and I want this!!!!

My doll house was made of tin, and had plastic furniture, but it was a palace to me. That doll house is mind boggling. Just gorgeous.
Was it a 1950s one? I’ve seen one from the 50s made of tin\aluminum I hope to get one one the future when I have a child 😊🫶🏻 I bet it was magical!!

@ oh woah, that’s lovely! Thank you for sharing with me. It sounds great.😄
I am 70 years old, and have collected a houseful of plastic "Renwal" furniture, including a whole family!
@ those sound so lovely!! 😊

I love how this was created for A Exhibition and then gifted too Queen Mary, we are lucky this Work of art is still around
Stunning. What a work of art. I love that the library has all those books with writing from actual authors. ❤
Exquisite! Thank you for sharing!
The ultimate doll’s house ❤
I’m mesmerized, transported, covetous, INSPIRED!❤❤❤
Truly a fantastic work of art. Thank you for sharing.
Such talented craftsman.

So many wonderful details have been left out of this video. It's a shame it wasn't a full "tour" of this dolls house.
So amazing, I wish I could see it in real life
What an absolute joy
This is much better than Barbies dream house I got as a child. Barbie wished she had a house like that.
wow, I thought this was a real life size house, wondered when they would get to the dollhouse.
ME TOO 😂💕🇦🇺💕
@@nancysimpson9045 I didn't realize it until the life size hand reached in!

Incroyable et magnifique.
Very nice and thank you.
Thank you so much!

Amazing!
The people who made that definitely put some time in on that job.
A pantry is for storage of food. A scullery is for washing up pots and pans.
Oh thanks for that! I guess the scullery maid washed up a lot amongst other things.

All while the poor starved....No respect!
Obscene given the poverty and hunger of the time…
the world of the privileged children. I say no more
Agreed.
Your pronunciation of "doll" comes out as "dog."
No royalty since 1500s,so,to make money, open them up as museum,or sell it all andpay off the debts 9f the country and stop poverty.
Huh???
@judis6224 It's already displayed as museums, as you say. How can you not know this?!?
Fake .
No, it's not
@s.p.8803 How are people going to fit into something so small ?? Ridiculous.
Now can anyone plz explain me what's a Doll's House is...?? 🙄🤔
A house for dolls that children play with. All the furniture is miniatures. The house either opens up or has the front wall missing so that the children can have their dolls in the various rooms.
