You should go and visit Beechview next! The T ride scene, at the beginning, that was Beechview. It is a very nice, calm, peaceful and diverse neighborhood. It is a great place to relax and enjoy hills! But beechview is the best, they have a great pizza place called Slice on Broadway, they have a great Hispanic grocery store called IGA (Las Palmas) and it is a wonderful place to be! Love you Beechview!

I spent the first seven years of my life in Dormont, and this hit me right in the feels. My dad is one of the volunteers that helped build the playground at Dormont Park. I was really sad when I heard the movie/game rental place across the street from the pool (Entertainment Tonight) closed down.

One of the best neighborhoods in Pittsburgh. T-Line, Dormont Pool, the playground, you can walk to just about everything, great mom and pop diners, (although sad to see Tom's Diner recently closed), nice local bars, great access to the city and not too hard to get to the parkway west.

That's a great place as well that shows vintage movies. Another great thing about Dormont it has it's own Borough of Dormont government which is separate from the City of Pittsburgh.

Dean Bog, Your Pittsburgh neighborhood videos are outstanding - Steps *amazing*, Homewood, Bloomfield are some of those I have enjoyed. So glad you did Dormont. It's so great and sometimes flies under the radar without proper homage. Especially enjoyed the interviews with the Dormontians. Good mix of good energy. I live one more t-stop away in Mt. Lebanon on its Main Street of Washington Road. It's worthy of a video someday. I would be happy to help as one of your interviewees, or suggesting shots ot information to highlight. Keep up the good work. You have a uniquely appealing on-screen persona.

The park was built with the help of my Mom and Dad and others from the school district and a couple of church groups (my dad was on the KO school board for a few years) and for my Eagle Project I actually painted the dugouts in Pop Murray, and I'm very surprised it's still there! Such a nostalgia trip. I try to go back and walk around whenever I can. • @Nunyabisnatch
    @Nunyabisnatch 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Dean, I think you are incredibly talented. I look forward to watching all of your videos!
The thing that I enjoy most about Dormont is the fact that it’s mainly mom and pop shops. It’s not pretentious in any way. People are interested in their community and very proud.
The main issue we have is the fact that most people do the majority of their shopping through online stores like Amazon, or they choose to go to chain retailers. We have empty store fronts and struggling small, family-owned businesses. It’s difficult to park easily, so that hinders business as well. I do everything in my power to walk everywhere, use public transit, and shop mainly at the small businesses in my community.
Right now we have: Muddy Cup coffee shop; Well-Oiled Aromatherapy (essential oils, psychic readings...etc.); Beyond Bedtime Books; Prana-Veda Yoga Studio; Knossos; Hollywood Theater; Blended Smoothie and coffee shop; Rocchios Italian Deli; Potomac Bakery; Josie’s Sweets n’Treats (they have vegan/gluten free options); Paulie’s Smokehouse; Jamison’s; Cain’s; Vintage Grace Boutique; Tom’s Diner is being bought out by Mike and Tony’s Gyros; The Dorstop; Fredo’s; My Thai; Campiti’s Pizza; Molly’s Pizza; Mexicasa; Mekong, and tons of hair salons, nail salons, dive bars and vape shops. There’s also a small library and post office.
The storefronts change very often. There was once a sex toy store “Adam and Eve” and a video rental store for obscure, cult movies called “Incredibly Strange Video.”
Hell. Since, I’ve lived here many stores have come and gone.= Vinyl Remains and Anne Gregory moved to Mt. Lebo, Moonstones moved to Castle Shannon, Parkers moved to Brookline. Helen and Earl left. Heist Left. I think this is a business district with great opportunity, but a great deal of adversity to overcome because of traffic and giant online corporations.
The New Yorker in the video pissing over Dormont’s coolness irked me a bit. A person from NYC would be bored in Pittsburgh’s city neighborhoods as well because they’re used to a larger scale city, When I lived in the East End, transplants from NYC endlessly complained about uncool it was. People are entitled to their opinion, but I feel like it’s comparing apples to oranges.
I love your videos, but I’m not sure this fully does Dormont’s magic justice. I don’t think the exercise equipment store (which is probably a front) or some of the shots does the town full justice. It makes it look empty and quiet.
I would have loved to see a more long shots and detailed close ups, How about a full shot looking down Potomac, capturing all the T commuters walking and the old-fashioned cobblestone road? Or even a close up shot of all the interesting ethnic food in Jmart, it’s certainly not your typical chain grocery store.
Dormont is a diamond in the rough. It’s takes time to appreciate how cool it is.
The longer I live here the more I love it, I’ve lived in so many Pittsburgh neighborhoods: Downtown, Allentown, North Shore, Brentwood, Bloomfield, Friendship, Lawrenceville, and Morningside. This is by far my favorite neighborhood.
It seems like you came to Dormont in the afternoon, or on a Sunday evening, Potomac is bustling with walkers during rush hour. Dormont offers the perfect mix of a quiet suburban experience with an urban feel.
Also, the Dormont pool is seriously the most awe-inspiring place in the summer. It feels so incredibly special to me. It’s like a surreal, wondrous dream.

I was a Upstate NY ( from 1 hr north of NYC) transplant who worked for UPMC and lived in Brookline with my born & bred Pittsburgher fiance, But was in Dormont often.....I loved it....Me and my fiance were one of three black households on our street, so i did experience some racism....The only reason I cannot bear to go back is because I found my fiance dying from brain stem death due to being shot in the head in our house.....We were only there for 3 months.....I've been back in NY for 3 yrs. and work in a Hospital on the Upper East side of Manhattan, I kind of miss that neighborhood....But the bad memories keep me from going back....

Fiona......It depends where that lady was from....And she didn't trash anything about Dormont at all.... Omg these just keep getting better!! Yayy!!! The only time I've ever used the T (besides downtown) was to go to Warhols grave!!! I've lived here 7yrs and I think it's time I visit this little gem! P.S. you'd make a great coach!!🤗 awesome video 👏👏👏

I grew up in dormont and lived there for about 12 years before I moved away. This video really makes me miss the place I grew up but it was cool to be able to know almost every single place each shot was taken.

Dude such good content you're making. I'm thinking of moving to Pittsburgh and I'm surprised that there's almost 0 videos on TH-cam about life in Pittsburgh at all. I had to watch Bourdain's episode of Pittsburgh but that still left me wanting more. Keep it up!

I grew up in Dormont and I'd move back there in a second if I could afford to. And you're pretty funny with the commentary on little league baseball intensity. Reminds me of how it felt back then. Ha!

moved from west coast.. am kinda cheap so I moved to Munhall where I could live like a king haha, it has this bad rep and that is total BS, we loved it there... and we loved homestead too! so much going on on 8th right now, plus super close to SH across the bridge.. I'd love to see a video about Munhall/Homestead (because lets face it.. they're kind of conjoined)

not much happening right now, but we have a lot of rich history. it would be cool if you went into some more of the history of each neighborhood. my grandpa is in the brentwood historical society and has written multiple books on brentwood’s history and would love to talk to you he said.
