They had 24 foot headers and factory cabs in 1964? I didn't know that.

First combine I ever drove was a C II and then a G for a custom wheat harvester. Both were LP/butane powered. Good machines.

Learned how to run a combine on my neighbors gleaner E. Clean grain. Nothing left on the ground behind it.

My father was given a 160 acre farm with a house when he married from his father. I can remember he had livestock and 2- E combines without cabs. Back in the 50s,60s and early 70s, my grandfather and 2 of his brothers were AC dealers.

First Gleaner I ran was an E with 2 row corn head. Turn to short on a side hill and run over a cob and it got kinda dicey. Open the window and engage the unload auger. Next was an F. I almost bought an F2 diesel, fresh overhaul and drive tires, 16 ft head. $1800 in 1985. I found out it was used in the bottoms to cut beans after a flood. Had bearing supply written all over it. Neighbor bought a new L that was a disaster. 2 good ones, one abused and one catastrophe.

The first combine I ran was my dad's Gleaner model "E". This brings back some memories, thanks for uploading!

How advance were the AC combines of this era, and if correct they already had offered 24 ft fronts and other features which were not common back then.

Wow 24ft front, I wonder how specs stack up against over combines of that era?

In the 60's , 70's and even early 80's , if you were anybody you had a gleaner. Even the JD and IH guys had gleaners, than duetz managed to destroy that position

I had an early A when I started out. Thing was good in wheat mostly. OK in corn, that corn head was great for the time, but it sucked in soybeans. The Herculeses motor was under powered to say the least, and likely why the thing was poor in beans, couldn't keep up speed needed for clean separaton. If we would of had a better dealer at the time, things would have worked out ok. But the dealer was worse than the combine. Most any combine can be made to do the job if proper adjustment and repairs are there, if not, you won't be satisfied. There were a lot of model E combines around, mostly sold by other dealers farther out. But Allis had the bad idea of eliminating small dealers then and they killed their customer base when they backed the bad dealer left, he later went under for shady management.
