  • Transplanting and dividing Daffodils (Narcissus) by submerging them in water and re-planting the bulbs. This may set the flowers back a year depending on how thin you split them.

    What a helpful video. Thank you. I understand much better what is going on with dividing in autumn.

      These are sprouting out in the garden now, we will see if they flower this year or not.

    Oh oh! Just a couple of minutes back, after watching another daffodil video, I took the advice of the presenter and cut off all the roots from my bulbs. Accepted, it was with a view towards keeping the bulbs through the remaining summer in preparation of replanting in the autumn (fall) here in the southern hemisphere.
    Should I be feeling ill? 😐

    Thanks for this great video! Can you do this any time of the year or is it better to wait until the flowers die?

    5:49 did you cut the green off before planting?

    • @GiveitaGrow
      @GiveitaGrow  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Keep the leaves, they may die back, but thats the plant re-using the nutrients.

      @@GiveitaGrow But what happened to the leaves at 5:49?

      @@manlius I wondered the same thing, there were leaves when he was dividing them, and not when he planted the bulbs. Just a little explanation about cutting back the foliage. Bulbs usually need this for photosynthesis, so perhaps keep it on?

      Even after bulbs bloom, they need their green foliage to photosynthesize their sugar and nutrient storage through their dormant seasons. If they don't bloom the following year, it is because that cycle was interrupted. If you plan on disturbing/transplanting/dividing them, wait until the daffodils have started to lose their vibrant green color but before they wither away to brown nothing.

    Hi there, I've never had daffodils. I have a friend offering to let me have some of hers. Being that it's a spring plant...can they be safely moved in this season

      I hope you like them..I grow them in a small residential town..that has many roaming deer..deer don’t eat daffodils...they do eat tulips..

    If you can’t plant right away, do you keep the bulbs in water?

    • @GiveitaGrow
      @GiveitaGrow  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would try to store them cool and dry, like how you buy bulbs in their dormant stage.
