I live out in SoCal and have been wanting to learn how to surf for so long! Thank you Jason for the helpful videos forsake are giving some good tips and advice
I am 42 and I’m just learning for fun 😂😂..with my youngest !and only thing I used to do back in the day is waterskii which is easy ..takes hardly any skill at all ..lol so I totally agree with you !

I'm a snowboarder and I was sponsored in the skateboarding world... But I think i'll hangout on a foam board lol. Moving to Cali in the next couple months. thanks for the vid
hey Jason ,my 10 yr old daughter has been surfing for just over a year now . she's on a hypto kyrpto foam board, she is progressing well. she's been asking for a glass board , basically i told her to surf out the rest of this year and if she keeeps improving i will get her a glassy,... Having said that. what would you recommend if i were to go ahead ? she's 1.45cm tall and weighs 35 kg. any advice would be greatly appreciated . Thank you mate
Hi Jason. Great advice. I am looking to buy a beginner surfboard but I tried a wave storm a couple of times and it just seemed way too big for me. I’m very petite at 5’ and weigh 100 lbs. could you please recommend a shorter board that will help me as a beginner? Thanks!
Hey, yeah they are pretty bulky! INT makes a nice 7' foamboard that would be good for your size: intsoftboards.com/products/7-int-classic-softtop-surfboard?variant=29148214591591 Catchsurf also has a nice 7' board: catchsurf.com/collections/boards/products/blank-series-funboard-thruster
hey jason, i’m 5’8 and around 180-185 pounds, slightly overweight. i had my first lesson today and i did great with a 9’ foam board. is 8’ too small/short for me?
I’ve lived in FL for 2 years now. Been skateboarding for 7 years and I do a snowboard trip 1-2 times a year. Surfing has always interested me the most though. Buying my first board soon then gunna hit the waves thankfully my bf sheds so I have a teacher lol. Wish me luck
Hi, Jason 🏄♀🇯🇵 I just started surfing life!! I have done for 4 times, I really love surfing so I wanna buy my board. I wanna buy a soft board.... 6.6 or 7 are short for me???
Thank you for the kind feedback! The best surfers are the ones out there having the most fun while keeping everyone safe, it doesn’t matter what board you have 🤙
Jason I have a bit of a complicated situation because where I live there aren't really many waves so I surf behind a boat with an infinite wake, a shortboard is obviously better for this however I also want to learn to surf on normal waves when the conditions are ok do you think that a short person with really good balance could manage to surf normal small waves with a shortboard? 😀
Once you're up on a wave, you'd be fine. However, the biggest challenge with beginners happens before you get up onto the wave - so figuring out paddling, timing, and how to actually catch waves. You'll struggle on a shortboard to do those things.
So 62 years old surfing on rentals 9 ft stormblade. Yesterday after 45 minutes of fails I got up a couple times. Continuing to work on pop ups! I’m losing weight now 185 and I’m five eight. Final weight will be around 178. Tried an 8 foot board three sessions ago and couldn’t get up. Foam boards are impossible to find right now maybe a Covid prob. Found 8 foot used foam, 175 bucks. What do u think? Also found a local shop that might be getting in 9 foot catch surf log. Really would like to find the stormblade but they say those won’t be in for months. Thoughts?
The 9 foot catch surf log would be ideal for you. Yes, everyone is low on stock right now because of covid halting production on a lot of the foam boards.
@@JasonKlunk thanks so much finally picked up a 9 foot stormblade perf ssr as they just hit shops in the central coast. Watch and rewatch your lessons all the time, extremely helpful! Thanks again. Old guy.
Hey man! I already have an 8 foot foamy. The main problem I have is I CANNOT duck dive bc of the insane buoyancy lol. Which makes me gassed out much quicker bc it’s so hard to paddle out. I know I should stick with it for a few more months and I totally will. But what is the next board? I’ve been recommended the pyzalien but I’m trying to get different perspectives
i tried surfing my first time on my cousins hard top long board and it was so fun but a bit difficult due to the hard surface. this video totally helped i’m trying to convince my parents to let me get one !
After heart surgery I got an 8' wave bandit foamie to use in the white water as I rebuilt my strength. It catches everything and the small fins are no problem in more shallow water. (I'm 6', 175 lbs & it has tons of float). Primarily a long boarder. Your tips are awesome and appreciated.
Yeww nice vid dood! I started surfing last summer and I got a foam board and I was started to get good sadly in Delaware winter came around so I have to wait a couple months to surf again but it's fun as hell. And I agree 9 ft foam boards are good to for beginners fr!
Jo Bro, I startet with a hardboard, cuz a friend of mine told me, if you can board its easy. Acually after 3 days I catched 2-3 waves, but was not that easy. Than I tried a couple of times with a mini malibu but didnt cached them waves 😅 than I had 2 days a Fish foamy, with that one I started to catch some more :) but now im Not sure Ive been on the water for around 9 days. My popup works and I kinda get how the waves are working but I´m not sure what I should buy. Ether a 8 foot foamy and going back to basics or I buy a foamy fish with about 45 L. What would you do 😅
My beach here is South Padre Island,TX. I really want to try surfing for so many years now. I'll definitely start looking into a foam board. What are some tips I should know about choosing fins?
Don't worry about fins when you are starting out, except to maybe stick with the plastic ones that come with most foam boards. Real fins are made of fiberglass and can be sharp/bad news until you are confident that you can control your board! You won't start noticing a difference until you get some experience riding waves and trying different boards in different conditions. I'll be posting a video on fins in the future.
Hey man thanks for all the effort you put in your videos really enjoy your teaching style, now my question: I've had my first surf experience this summer in Portugal, took a total of 6 lessons with a teacher on a foam board and now I am starting to ride green waves and trying to do my first turns, I thought about buying my own board but I am not sure what to go for, I have read a lot of different opinions. Some people say you should move up from the foam board as quickly as possible, so my question is should I stick with a foam board? And if not what else should I go for in shape, height and volume, would a fish shape be too much?
Hey, thanks for the feedback. I would stick with a foam board until you are comfortable consistently going left and right by yourself at a variety of different surf breaks. Try to find something used, and then just flip it when you feel like you are ready to move on. It's going to be more beneficial in the long run to stick with a board that you can easily get into waves with. You'll know when the foam is holding you back, and I don't think you're there quite yet. Hope that helps.
I got a funboard. I went on a few surfing camps and hired a foamie a few times on Holliday. I gotta say, the funboard is perfect for me. I was catching 9/10 waves i went for during my first session. I couldn't get a foamie since it didn't fit in my car and my car doesn't allow any sort of carrying racks.
I had lesson on 9 ft soft board and had success. I tried surfing on my Wavestorm 8 ft in hurricane chop and felt unbalanced a bit. Should I return to Amazon or try and get used to it.
HI, Jason, thank you for a great, informative video! Quick question, I am 6'1", 195 lbs, 38 years old, and I lift weights in the gym 4 times per week. I live in NY and just had my first surfing lesson. Which board would you recommend between the following two choices: Wave Bandit Ben Gravy Performer 6'6 or Wave Bandit Ben Gravy EZ Board 8'. I usually do not buy things for complete beginners so that I do not have to upgrade that often and prefer to deal with a challenge instead.
Thanks for all the tips where I go to the beach in New Jersey there usually isn't. high wave but I will still try to catch some good ones. Thanks for telling me which board I should use so now I know what I need to rent.
I have been surfing for 1year now. I have started with an epoxy 7"6 surfboard. Now that i am able to stand and ride the wall of the wave I am looking to improve my surf one step further. What surfboard type and size would recomend to buy as my second surfboard? I get a surfbaord that allows me to start praticign basic surf tricks without compromising my surf progression. I'm 186m . 85kg surfing small / medium waves
I know this vid is old but I have been surfing for fun every summer since I was probably 9 and now turning 14 I want a smaller board so I can start doing more turns and want to try it out do you have ans suggestion’s?
Hey man I appreciate you making these videos! I'm 27 and I've always wanted to try surfing. I'm 6'3 and weigh 225. Would you recommend a 8ft foam board for a person my size?
Hi there, I have only surfed in tropical waters with a swimsuit and rashguard. Because I can’t travel, I’m trying to learn to surf in a wetsuit. Regarding boards, my first time out ever in my life, I had a 7 foot fiberglass board. I caught some waves and was up on my second try. My next time out, I was on a foam board about 8-10’. It was unwieldy and I couldn’t get up, not once. I’m in San Francisco, looking for a board and wetsuit to try in Bolinas or Santa Cruz. Do you still recommend that foam board?
Hi I had a question I’m 14 and live in Wisconsin. So surfing is never really talked about around here until I found out you can surf in Sheboygan. Is surfing the Great Lakes harder then the ocean? And do you think I could still learn?
Depends how big it is. You'll want something with enough volume so you aren't struggling to paddle and catch waves. I always recommend foam so that it's safer for you and everyone around you while you're figuring out how to handle yourself in the ocean.
Bro I wanna surf so bad but I live in Texas which is great but no good surfing at least not in the middle of Texas. Imma try to go to college in California if I can tho
It all depends how dedicated someone is to surfing/practicing. A couple months if you're in the water at least 3 days a week, it will be a lot longer than that for example, if you only go out once a week to surf.
Jason thank you so much not just for that answer but for all tips and advices you give to beginners!! It’s just because i bought an amazing 8’ feet quicksilver softboard for 200$ and i was thinking “may i have to change it in a couple of weeks and i threw moneys away”! I live in italy so it’s not easy having good waves (we have very small waves usually), but my goal is to ride a shortboard!
Every spot is different, so you have to know your break and how the tide affects your spot in order to know the time of day. The morning by me is usually cleaner (less windy), as well as close to sunset, but that will vary by location. You don't need a wetsuit if you're comfortable in the water without one.
I live on the East Coast and the waves here are super steep. I was doing well during the summer when the waves were a little less steep on a 7' fiberglass board. But, now that it is close to winter I'm really struggling with a 7' board as the waves have gotten super steep. Should I switch to an 8' or 9' foamy?
Hi Jason, i’ve been surfing with foam board for like 4-5 times. I’m 169 cm tall with 60kg of weight. Would you recommend me to surf on smaller board? I was thinking to try on 6ft or 7ft board for a challenge and tbh i hate dragging the chunky size of board. Love your video man btw 🤞🏻
Is it possible to start on a smaller board? Like 6’2”? If you are more off by yourself with friends where you don’t have to worry about others. I know it’s harder but all the longboards are expensive even used around me. Just curious if it’s possible.
I like to shop used boards - so check out craigslist, offerup, your local surf shops, etc. Every spot is different, so you have to know your break and how the tide affects your spot in order to know the time of day. The morning by me is usually cleaner (less windy), as well as close to sunset, but that will vary by location. You don't need a wetsuit, it's really just about maximizing your time in the water and being comfortable.
Hi Jason! Nice video. I'm a beginner and used rental boards, 9'4 and 9'6 longboards with my practice sessions recommended with a local coach(not certified). Been practicing with white wash and can already pop-up and ride heaps of 'em. I want to ride green wave now. But I hate longboards since they're too heavy to carry when going to the beach here on my area (about 100 meter walk) and they're so heavy, not to mention I can't duck dive 'em. I don't want what you recommend, foamies, since I want to buy a long term board like an epoxy one thay can last for years. I'm 5'7.5 inches tall, 84kg(185lbs) 27 years old. I want to have a smaller board. I saw an EPS/epoxy 7'6 funboard/mini-mal with 53L volume. Will I be okay to buy it and use it as a begginer? They said on the site it's good for beginners too. Or do I still need more volume like an 8'0 funboard with 58L of volume? Need your opinion before I buy my own. Waves here are 1-3ft, and with a good day up to 8 to 10ft. Thank you!
I usually tell people to transition to a funboard after the foamboard, so you'll be fine with either of those, but it might take a bit longer to learn how to catch green waves. FYI, you won't really be able to duck dive a 53/58L volume board either.
Yo man If im a short person and see a lot of 7 foot ones alot cheaper than 8 foot should I pay the extra cash for 8 or maybe 7 is also fun for short people?
Hi i wanted to get your opinion on what board I should get. I currently have an 8' Wavestorm, and I can easily catch a lot of waves, but I've started running into problems as I'm progressing. I'm now at an intermediate level, and can ride 6-7 ft greenface waves fairly consistently. What I'm finding is that it is nearly impossible for me to duck-dive big waves, because I am 5'7 and weigh only 110 pounds (physically don't have the strength to push the board down bc it's SO buoyant). Also, on bigger waves, my nose will go under a lot of the time. Do you think I should switch to a smaller fish-style board?
I’ve boogie boarded for pretty much my whole life and was just starting to surf when I moved to Indiana for 11 years. I’m back in Florida now and really want to try surfing again but I’m a pretty big girl and I had a terrible ankle injury from taekwondo in 09 that didn’t heal correctly. But it’s not too bad on most days. I’m working on losing weight I’ve just been handed a really shitty hand in life when it comes to medical conditions. So do I have hope? Lol 😂 I’m about 300 right now. I’m quite active though and will swim no joke for 6 hours straight. Apart from the obvious of getting smaller which I’m working on, is there any boards out there for me? Is it even a good idea? Also let’s say I give it a go again, if I get a long board, I have a Chrysler 200 2015 will I be able to fit that on top? Lol 😂
I've seen people of all different sizes and shapes rip on a surfboard, so don't let that deter you from surfing. You'll want to find a 9' soft-top board to start with. If you can find something a little bigger, even better. Some people suggest that for beginners you want 1L of volume per 1 KG of body weight. For you, that would be around 130L, but I think anything around 100L should be fine. You can definitely fit a big board on the top of your car. I have a smaller car as well and if I take out my 8' foamie I use this FCS car rack: amzn.to/2PUlJte Hope that helps.
Heya! I went surfing for the first time in South Africa with a friend. Stood up the first time and used his shortboard for the second session because the rental place didn't have any foamies. Stood up the first time on his short board too and was able to catch a couple of waves. Sooooo I was thinking should I maybe get a board that's in between? Maybe a longer short board? I want to get into turns asap and feel like a long board will be way too big for my tiny self... Hope you can help xox
Hi Jason, I'm 5'6" but only weight 110lb. What size board would you recommend me to start on? I took a class with a 9 foot board but it felt like a boat. Standing up was extremely easy but anything else including paddling was a nightmare.😅
Hi. Thank you for this advice. I understood your suggestions, but the reality is I'm not able to buy a beginner friendly surfboard now, and then another intermediate when I'm ready, etc. I love surfing (despite just having done it like 20 times over 15 years), but I'm trying to figure out what's a board that can do it all. I'm down for the extra time at the beginning for not picking a beginner surfboard. I'd hate to feel like I'm compromising my surfing later on when I'm more experienced, bcs of the board I chose. This really needs to be a 1 time buy for me. Any suggestions? Thank you so much
I hear you brother, you sounded just like me last year. If you give me your size and weight I’m gonna be able to help u better. But Without knowing Your measures I can recommend to you to get a hybrid board like a 7’4- 7’6. You have almost the maneuverability of a short board with the extra volume of almost a longboard. Oss!! 👊🏻
I am planning to buy one , but I could diced from three boards.can you give me some advice?? I am 32years old 5.6 ft. 170 pounds. ①7.4 ft 70L volume ②8.4 ft 83L volume ③8.4 ft. 70L volume. Thanks.
hey! i have a question.. i am surfing each summer, for 5 or 6 years now.. and my birthday present was a surfboard (we still have to buy one tho), but there are so many different kinds and lengths, and my parents have 0 experience in surfing, so they can’t help me.. what do you think will suit me? my surf school says i’m really talented, i know what waves are good, my timing is good and i (almost) always catch a wave! i am 1.60 meter and i’m 13 years old now :) thanks!
foam is a great help wish i saw your video before the big egg on my forehead lol so im 5 8 163 newbie surf 2 x year off coast of Maine in you top picks of foam boards what is your to 3 last year i got 4 out of 10 i was using my 11 foot paddle board lol love your videos !!
Hello, im 5’6 190lbs . I was bodyboarding today and someone told me to try his surfboard .and just use it as a bodyboard . And holy shit I was catching more than ever 😭😭😭. He told me I should get a 8ft . But some people say 7ft. Which should I get ?
I’ve been going everyday this summer surfing I started last year on a 6’0 board I recently got a 5’8 foam fish like 2 months ago I wanna move on to a hard board but Idk what to get and suggestions?
Hey I heard people can start on a fish board versus a foam board. But what do you think? Is that OK or do you think it’s really important to start on the foam board
hii, i really want to learn to surf and i don't really know where i can start learning. If you have any tips on how I can start lessons pls tell me. Also I'm not sure which board to buy bc I'm quite small for my age haha (I'm 16, 5'2, 40kg)
Hey dude! Great video! I’m 6’2” about 170lbs, pretty athletic and pick things up somewhat quickly. I know u recommend 8-9ft boards but do u think I can get away with 6-7ft board as long as it’s a foam soft top?
Hey - thanks. Do you know how many times I've heard that? haha. I understand wanting to jump down right away, you certainly can start out at 6-7 ft, but it'll just delay your progress IMO. Unless you are actively swimming miles every day, your arms/shoulders are going to give out way before the rest of your body and so volume is going to be your friend.
Hey Jason, your content is awesome. I´ve been kinda serious about surfing, I´ve been surfing this summer for about 10 sessions already, pior to that I had about 4 sessions on 2012 (my very first ones)....about a year ago I bought my first board, I didn´t want a foamboard because I would have to get rid of it very quilckly as I progressed (little I did know.....). The thing is I´ve been struggling to catch waves on this board, so, would it be much of a difference to buy a foamboard? My current board is a fiber glass one 7.4 x 22" x 2 3/4. According to the internet this board should have aproximatebly 50 liters of buoyancy. I´m 5.9 foot tall and weight 85 kg. Keep up the good work!
Can you catch green waves on an 8 ft? I have tried 8' and 7' foamies and find the 8 foot is way less manoeuvrable. I want to catch and turn into green waves. Is the 7 foot better here or should I push myself and learn to turn in & cut-back on an 8 footer.
Hi Jason! Do you like (or know anyone who tried) Torq surfboards? 7'2", for begginner/intermediate transitioning from a foamie to other boards. Thanks for the great videos!
What are some good beaches too learn in SoCal for short boarding. I have been long boarding at San Onofre for 3 years just because I could only afford a long board but I want to transition down but don’t know a good place to practice.
Sorry, I don't name spots on this channel. You can shortboard anywhere, it's just a matter of figuring out positioning at spots that are typically run by longboards.
It sounds like you generally recommend 8ft to 9ft for everybody. I learned on an 8ft wavestorm. I am looking to get my own board (catch surf log) and am curious if there any good things a beginner will notice about a 7ft board? Are the differences pretty subtle? I assume it would be less stable but more maneuverable. I am 5'10" @ 66kg.
Broke Lucid Media At this stage it’s not so much about maneuverability, it’s more about catching waves. The volume on a 7 or 8 ft board is going to get you into more waves, so you’ll spend more time working on perfecting your pop up, reading waves, and timing. You’ll be fine on either size for awhile, find a good deal and go with it!
This guy is the best teacher I’ve had. I used all his tips and suggestions and I’m already making progress
Thanks for the nice feedback Tyler. I'm stoked for you!
How good are ya now
I really want to learn to surf but there's a problem:

The great lakes man keep that in mind.
I love his energy, at 27 I’m really interested in getting into surfing now that I live by the beach. This video is super helpful

Hi, Jason 🏄♀🇯🇵 I just started surfing life!! I have done for 4 times, I really love surfing so I wanna buy my board. I wanna buy a soft board.... 6.6 or 7 are short for me???
7 would be fine
Thank you SO much for this video! I am a beginner and I thought foam boards were lame, deff need to keep practicing. You are a wonderful teacher!
Thank you for the kind feedback! The best surfers are the ones out there having the most fun while keeping everyone safe, it doesn’t matter what board you have 🤙
Jason Klunk I really want a board, but I don’t live near the sea and wouldn’t have enough space to take a foam board with me :(

I respect you and your videos, sir! Keep up the great videos!!
Thank you! Yewwwww!
I’ve been recommended the pyzalien but I’m trying to get different perspectives
bro i love the way you roast people with a smile
lol
Nice video! Can beginners use a stand up paddle board? Thanks
Sure, for paddle boarding.
Really helpful, thanks 🙏🏻
glad it helped!
i tried surfing my first time on my cousins hard top long board and it was so fun but a bit difficult due to the hard surface. this video totally helped i’m trying to convince my parents to let me get one !
nice!
Hey Jason! Quick question. I’m 12 and 5’4 about 125 pounds. How big of a foam board should I get?
I would go with a 7' board 🤙
After heart surgery I got an 8' wave bandit foamie to use in the white water as I rebuilt my strength. It catches everything and the small fins are no problem in more shallow water. (I'm 6', 175 lbs & it has tons of float). Primarily a long boarder. Your tips are awesome and appreciated.
Nice! Good to hear that you've been able to get back out in the water. Thanks for the feedback.
Yeww nice vid dood! I started surfing last summer and I got a foam board and I was started to get good sadly in Delaware winter came around so I have to wait a couple months to surf again but it's fun as hell. And I agree 9 ft foam boards are good to for beginners fr!
sick, glad you are enjoying it!
@@JasonKlunk thx dood🤙🏼
What would you do 😅
I am 13, 5,5 and roughly 165 pounds is there any specific board you recommend?
i’m 13, 5’6 and 165 were basically the same people
My beach here is South Padre Island,TX.
I am becoming an intermediate, is a 6’4” fish board (softboard) good for me? Also where can i buy that?
Im in NY
Odysea makes a nice fish foamie that's available in 6'6". catchsurf.com/collections/odysea/products/skipper?variant=31260753494114
U just made my day :D
I’m 5’4, 120 lbs and am deciding Weather to get a fish or a short board or looking for Breyer suggestions. Got any good one to start out with?
I got a funboard and I'm currently a rebegginer and it's slippery! What do you suggèst ? I'm having difficulties ridding while paddling..
Did you wax it?
@@JasonKlunk not yet! I dont have professional wax, Can I heat candy instead and paste it on the board?
I was too cool for a foamie, so I spent a year missing waves and leaving frustrated. I’m back now, ready to kook it up with the soft top. No shame.
haha, good on you man. Good luck!
Thanks Jason this is really helpfull as I was unsure what type of board to buy as I am starting surfing.
Glad I could help!
That's great. Funboards are what I recommend after the foamie anyways so you're on the right track, have fun 🤙
I had lesson on 9 ft soft board and had success. I tried surfing on my Wavestorm 8 ft in hurricane chop and felt unbalanced a bit. Should I return to Amazon or try and get used to it.
Hey Adam, just stick with it! It might take you a few sessions to get comfortable, but you’ll be totally fine on that board.

I would go with the 8' and keep it when you're ready to move to your next board, they are good to have even as you progress.
Thanks for all the tips where I go to the beach in New Jersey there usually isn't. high wave but I will still try to catch some good ones. Thanks for telling me which board I should use so now I know what I need to rent.
You bet!
thanks jason that was a real helpful video and I now know what surfboard to buy
Glad I could help
Awesome video. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for the feedback!
Hey man I appreciate you making these videos! I'm 27 and I've always wanted to try surfing. I'm 6'3 and weigh 225. Would you recommend a 8ft foam board for a person my size?
Yes definitely
Im really unfit and need to spend 6 months getting used to swimming in sea first. Cant wait to get first foamy
i started with a small board like hitting my eyes and feel really comfortable even in the first days
Nice dude, yewww!
It's a little different (and cold) but you can definitely still learn!
Hey, I have a question! So you said foam boards are the best for beginners I was wondering if an epoxy board would be okay for a beginner as well??
Depends how big it is. You'll want something with enough volume so you aren't struggling to paddle and catch waves. I always recommend foam so that it's safer for you and everyone around you while you're figuring out how to handle yourself in the ocean.
You can always buy a foam board second hand, and sell it for almost the same price you got it for once youre ready to progress!
Bro I wanna surf so bad but I live in Texas which is great but no good surfing at least not in the middle of Texas. Imma try to go to college in California if I can tho
If I were you I would surf rivers or go to a water park with a wave pool.
Hey Jason! How much time people use to need before passing from a 8’ feet surfboard to a shortboard? Weeks? Months? Thanks for your tips!
Nah, you'll want to hold on to that board. Foam boards are fun when the waves are small and you still want to surf! Good luck 🤙
What time of day would be the ideal for catching some waves? And is a wet suit really necessary? I’m a newb and any info would suffice, thank you!
Every spot is different, so you have to know your break and how the tide affects your spot in order to know the time of day. The morning by me is usually cleaner (less windy), as well as close to sunset, but that will vary by location.
You don't need a wetsuit if you're comfortable in the water without one.
Jason Klunk thank you very much!
Solid advice
🤙
Thanks i was eyeing up the 8ft board at Costco but wasn't sure if it was a good board. 115$ Ill be back for it soon
Noice
Thanks, that was very helpful
Glad to hear it!
Jason do you think a high volume, very wide fish would be good for a beginner/intermediate trying to go down to a shorter board
Yes, that's a good option!
Is a 7’ 6 fun board too soon for a beginner? Only because my friend is selling me one dirt cheap. Thank you
That's a solid board to learn on as well. It'll be a bit tougher than if you went with a 8 or 9 foot foam board, but you should be fine!
Love your video man btw 🤞🏻
thanks. Yep, you should be fine on a 7ft board.
@@JasonKlunk cheers mate. You got a new sub 🤙🏼
@@arifffarid8400 thank you brother
Is it possible to start on a smaller board? Like 6’2”? If you are more off by yourself with friends where you don’t have to worry about others. I know it’s harder but all the longboards are expensive even used around me. Just curious if it’s possible.
Sure, you can. It's just going to take a little longer to learn.
What places do you recommend buying a surfboard? What time of day is the best to go out in the water? Is it okay to not wear a wetsuit?
@@JasonKlunk I see, thank you so much! I'll buy the 7'6 ft then since I do mind the weight and longevity of the board.
Subscribed! 🤙 😁
You are so nice!!! I really liked your video❤️ I was wondering if 16 is a late age to start surfing... Thx for the video!
Thanks. Not at all, I didn't start until I was 30.

Yo man
If im a short person and see a lot of 7 foot ones alot cheaper than 8 foot
should I pay the extra cash for 8 or maybe 7 is also fun for short people?
Hey - it's more about weight than height, how much do you weigh?
@@JasonKlunk 140 pound
I have a smaller car as well and if I take out my 8' foamie I use this FCS car rack: amzn.to/2PUlJte
Hope that helps.
Jason Klunk awesome thank you so much ☺️ I’m going to start saving up and working out 💪🏻 and I’ll def check out that car rack!
Already watched all the série!
Good work on this vids!
Great way to teach! Great vibe 👍
Question:
Should I use wax on the foam board?
You don't have to use wax with a foamie, but sometimes it helps! I like to throw a little on before I go out with my foam board.
Hey I’m 5’11 280 what’s a good size board for me, currently dropping weight also
Which board should I use?I'm 14 and Im a beginner
Can I use a 6.0 foam board?I'm very light in weight
6-7 ft at your size should be fine! Catch Surf has a few good options at that length.
I’m 6ft 175lbs would a 8ft board work for me or should I go with a 9ft?
8 ft will be fine!
Hi Jason, I'm 5'6" but only weight 110lb. What size board would you recommend me to start on? I took a class with a 9 foot board but it felt like a boat. Standing up was extremely easy but anything else including paddling was a nightmare.😅
lol, I would try a 7'

If you give me your size and weight I’m gonna be able to help u better. is an 8ft board good for somebody who is 5’4, 200lb? or would you suggest a 9ft board?
Either size will be fine. For your height, the 8 foot will be a little easier to deal with.

Jason Klunk Ok I gotcha! 8ft board it is lol! Thanks!!
Awesome awesome very cool very helpful thank you very much
Thanks for the feedback!
You'll notice a difference if you get a 8' foam board, the volume will almost be doubled.
Can you catch green waves on an 8 ft?
I have tried 8' and 7' foamies and find the 8 foot is way less manoeuvrable. I want to catch and turn into green waves. Is the 7 foot better here or should I push myself and learn to turn in & cut-back on an 8 footer.
Yes, you absolutely can. I would stick to the 8' until it's holding you back

You bet!
Jason Klunk appreciate the advice!!
