    This episode of downshift, I take you on a journey of this restored 1949 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup. This truck has been in the family for over 60 years and passed down 2 generations to be restored to its original state from when they purchased it in 1955.
    I'd like to thank Alex Damm for giving me the opportunity to tell both his story and the life of this truck. I would also like to thank his father, David Damm for everything he did on this project without him allt of the shots would not have been possible.

    I'm fixing up my family's 1950 3100 too. Great project to work on with my dad. The last people to fix it up were my uncle and great grandpa. These things are family legacies that need to be cherished and held close.

    Really sweet! Greetings from India.You have kept it original. That's great. Not like some people who make trucks look short. Like Rambo on Danny De Vito legs. It looks as if you have just taken delivery of it from the show room. I am sure it looked like this when your grandad bought it. He would be very happy. This is like a family member. In India we had right hand drive version of these and Ford trucks. Many were in service till the 1990s, when stronger pollution laws saw these go out. Many were fitted with Perkins and Kirloskar diesel engines during the 1974 oil crisis.

    Beautiful Truck. I'm restoring a 48 Chevy 1/2 ton 5 window Truck with the original 216 c.i. 6 cylinder with three on the tree. I love the fact that you've kept your's original! Most of the 47 - 53 trucks that you see have had a 350 crate motor installed and a completely new drive train.

    Very nicely restored oldie. I like the fact that you left it as factory original. This chevy is one of my favourite pickup trucks.

    Great job! My Dad loved cars and we always had some pretty nice, fast cars. When we lived in Hawaii, Mom drove a 1961 Cadillac El Dorado convertible, black with red leather interior and a white top. Dad drove a 1962 Oldsmobile Delta 88 convertible, gold with gold leather interior and a white top. Then, when we moved to Connecticut, Dad bought a 1969 Chevy Camaro, SS 396 white with black brow stripe and a black vinyl top. After that, he bought a really fun Triumph, GT6, dark blue with overdrive. Wish we still had any of those cars still, but they were fun while we had them! Great story and a great tribute to your family.

    Great work! Restoring the truck in original form is commendable. I am not a fan of pimp my ride as most restorers do. This is true beauty. 👌

    Beautiful truck! When I was very little, my dad had a 1950 Chevy 3100 5 window. Probably one of the rarest colors and combos of a pick up at that time. It was sitting in our garage for ages... a couple years later, we did a frame off restoration back to original. It looked EXACLY spot on like this truck afterwards. Later we sold it and I begged my dad not to. I’ve never seen that truck since😪😭
    I’m in high school now, I’ve analyst wanted a 1950 Chevy 5 window since.

    I did the bodywork on one. Wasn't mine, but it was a good thing to work on, you could still work the metal. Drive it daily, enjoy it, and when it needs rebuilt again, do it.

    Question: How come a 1949 Chevrolet with a 1947 Tag ? AND one of your before photos shows a column shift and you are driving a floor shift ?

    • @dedwin8930
      @dedwin8930 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They didnt issue new plates each year. Just a metal tag for the corner. He said he switched from column shift to floor shift in video.
