    Hey Matt, glad you enjoyed it! If I ever get it sharpened up more properly I’ll maybe lend it your way again for a follow up cutting session. One note, the scabbard is included in the base price, the decorative carving was 50 extra.

      Thank you for the clarification.

      considering that it is hidden tang and not full tang it would be called a Falchion not a Messer, they both can have the same blade profiles but but handle construction is what sets them apart.

    • @freestatefellow
      @freestatefellow ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@joshuatempleton9556 I understand where you’re coming from, but I disagree. The blade has handle scales riveted to a tang (even though they enclose the tang), no pommel, and a Nagel. Pretty firmly in “messer” territory. Also, they probably would have just called it a “sword”.

    • @joshuatempleton9556

      @@freestatefellow falchions can have integrated pommels, and that handle is pinned not riveted hidden tang swords are usually pinned. nor is there scales as no metal is exposed on the sides. people refer to messers as swords even tho they are by literal translation a knife and built as knife to comply with the law at the time.

      @channingb2577 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Pretty much no one would call that a falchion. The grip scales are in fact riveted. You can clearly see the hollow rivets. Nagle, no pommel, grip scales, riveted grip construction...it's a messer.

    Among Messer users it is considered bad form to say they have a small peen.
    Great review as always.

    Great video, as always. I would love to see it tested to failure. It's made in Poland by people who are also archeologists. Seems very good value.

    Star dust is a super cool movie simple non CGI trashed we need more Clair Danes in our lives and now we have Dare Devil to appreciate.

      I blame Tristan’s sword in Stardust in part for my fascination with shorter, knucklebow Messer. I’m glad Matt called out the similarity because I remember actually finding him originally through his review of the movie prop repro.

    That blade looks amazing! The quality for the price too. In the future replace a better stronger Tsuka. I’d say she’s a keeper. Awesome review!

    My favorite sword i own. I actually got two of them and they both are great but the newer one is slightly lighter and all of the rivets appear to go through the tang where as on the older one, only half secure the tang. I feel the same about the rivet. Doesn't seem as robust as the adorian or gustav from L.E.
    The esge geometry is amazing. Cuts like a lazer for not having a really defined edge out of the box. I've done some cutting on small branches and vines, and nothing is rattling or moving as of the moment. Good sword. Sword good.

    The tension in the scabbard is probably a stiff piece of leather on each side. That’s how the super cheap MAA Messer from Cold Steel that I have is set up.

    i like the profile of that blade more than messer i have seen you swing seems manageable less ornate where those seem they should be two handed, not for buttering giant pieces of toast.

    I've got one too - I found the wood grip and copper/brass tubes a bit abrasive and uncomfortable; I gave the grip a very light sanding and it made all the difference.
    Mine was not super sharp out of the box, however it did not take much to get it crazy sharp with the Work Sharp. It cut surprisingly well with a not very sharp edge, and astonishingly well once sharpened further.
    I was disappointed that it didn't have a sharpened back edge, and after some hesitation I sharpened the back edge back to the termination of the fuller. I thought that given the blade geometry the false edge might be a poor cutter, but nope, it is great too.
    Displayed next to a Landsknecht Emporium messer, you can see that LE puts a lot more time and thought into grinding out subtle and complex cross sections, whereas this seems to be just a wedge.
    The grip is noticeably bigger than the LE, and people seem to prefer one or the other based on how the grip feels.
    Love the scabbard.

    Kind of off topic, but what's the best way to post swords for sale? I'm leaving moving out of the country at the end of August and need to sell my collection

    Hello, just happened to come by.
    To your information: I just looked the Messer up on the Krieger website and noticed that its name is "Räuber" instead of "Rauber".
    That means it's not pronounced "Row-ber" but "Roy-ber".
    Also: "Nagel" isn't pronounced "nae-ghel" but "nah-ghel".
    I thought that might be of interest for you. 🙂

    Messers like that weren't used in war, they were civilian self defense against attackers in the street and for duels

    I don't know why, but I've never really been a fan of the straight-tipped messers personally.
