i would not run any bike without brakes but thats just me in the city. i wonder what tires you can fit while using racing-brakes. i guess its 38mm at the most on the Steamroller. im waiting for my frameset to arrive it was the last one i could get.(same colour as yours mate)
thanks a lot. (i started my adulthood in a small flat near alexandra park in manchester mossside. rent was 220 pound a month. minimum wage was 3pound 30 cents back than and i was sometimes not able to feed myself and my girl had left me due to having no furniture in the bedroom. outside there was gunshots in the middle of the day. the city centre was full of thiefes, prostitutes and con-people asking for your money everywhere. the first thing i bought to start my life was a bike. later came carpet, a mattress, cooker and a used washing mashine. than for a very long time i did nt buy anything until another girl forced me to spend a weeks wages to get a discounted wooden bed.) later i ended up having to work for the private landlord and had my washing mashine impounded for rent areas. i struggled on for 5 more years on the estate while working 2-4 diffrent jobs a week before handing them my flat-keys to the landlords office and gave up on that place. leaving the UK while i was still young saved my life. young people cant even get a small, affordable flat nowadays. it must be worse now.@@fiefdomtracklocross
My ideal bike would be something in between the two! I've got a steamroller and have tested the big block as well in varous sizes and I wish I could get the best of both sometimes. The roller is probably my favourite but the top tube is a bit long compared to the stack and standover especially with drops it makes for quite a stretched out riding position. Maybe I just need to get a big block as well lol
I tend to find the Squid SO-EZ fits in between them, riding wise. It has less reach and it makes it feel more comfortable in twisty single track. It is also you point out a bit crazy that the Steamroller has a lower stack than a legal track bike. I tend to ride riser bars on it for that reason, but all Surly bikes seem to have a low stack, which seems at odds with the company's ethos.
@@fiefdomtracklocross Yeah I've heard that about the Squid, but it's pretty hard to come by where I am in northern Europe! I do like my risers as much as the next guy but I really love my compact drops so I end up running a few risers anyway on the roller, which makes the steering a bit more unsteady than I would prefer. But I guess that's t he beauty of bikes, always adapting and figuring out what works! We have this joke saying here at least that you have "incorrectly cycled this route but well done" so it's always funny :D Anyway enjoyed your thoughts on different bikes and terrain!
@@wyldz6763 BLB distribute them, I live in Scotland. They also have an EU warehouse for other EU countries. It's out of stock at the moment but I think there is a new shipment due.
@@fiefdomtracklocross Cheers, I will take a look since I order some BLB stuff every now and then! Also sorry about spamming the comment thread lol. I think i have a BLB 17t cog and a lockring now, maybe time to do some more serious business!
Also I guess I should say that I try not to buy new since there are so many sad frames on the second hand market that are not getting ridden enough, so I look there first and then if that doesn't work, I'll try to get a new one :)
I dig my steamroller, rider for sure. Miles and it rolls like. okie. I dig this. Great bike.
They are awesome
Lovely idea. My next bike for sure
Which one?

I think 38 with pretty smooth tyres and 35 for something with knobs.
Good luck with your build

Yes, I really do think that you're nice!
🙌
Whoever made that F the Tories cap, do you think they can make one that says "F the G.O.P.?"
I'm sure they can. It's a Bentley Components topcap and they make and engrave them all.
F ... Demcrats
Can you give us the bike build in the surly? Specifically intersted in the wheel builds
I was planning on a wheels talk for the next video out on Friday coming.
What is the best size for a Surly for someone who is 177cm?
I'd start at a 53cm but the Steamroller has funky sizing and it is better to try one.
@@fiefdomtracklocross thanks. Will definitely try to ride one when I see one :)
so what i'm getting is
- fuck the tories
- don't sell your bike
sounds good to me!
Rules to live by.
fuck 'em and also mind your tyre clearance, not much more to add :D
What is the ideal size of steamroller for my height 168cm?
The only available size here in my country is 53cm but I don’t want to gamble without any inputs from other users
Hi,
I'm 169cm. I ride a 49cm, the 53cm, I'm gonna say is probably too big.

Gotta find me a "Fuck the Conservatives" cap from a Canadian.
Yes, never sell your bikes. You will miss them. I have 3 fix gears and a beautiful beach cruiser. I don't think I could bring myself to sell eny.
