- Hi, in this 'trying to fix' video I attempt to repair a gaming laptop sent over from Finland by Jari. It stopped working whilst gaming, and never worked since. It is a ACER Aspire 7 - A717-71G-58U3. It doesn't charge or power on.
It is a lovely looking laptop with NVIDIA GeForce GTX1060 with 6GB GDDR5 VRAM, so hopefully if it can be fixed it will still be a very capable machine.

Remember that this is just for entertainment and I am not an expert in these repairs. The processes in the video may not be the best way, the correct way or the safest way to fix these things. I do love fault finding and trying to fix broken things, so I hope that comes across in this 'Trying to FIX' series. Many thanks, Vince.

Rumors. I thought that my logic would be to say the first thing out of my mouth via those family or friend games where you just blurt things out!
I'm gonna guess that it's a river.
"I don't know anything about laptops" ...proceeds to carry out competent component level repair to motherboard... Nice one Vince!
He is a genius with his adaptability
I like humble people 👌
😂😂
Your excitement is something I miss about fixing something. You're a great joy to watch work my friend. Keep it up.
Lewis would be proud of that fix, he always says look for anything that looks wrong
Great eye Vince on finding that cap. I think SMD capacitors are the biggest pain when it comes to board repair. No printed values and most times no visible signs of damage. I am always happy to support your videos!
Thanks Todd 👍 Yes they are hard to find, but at least when it comes to the soldering they are easy to replace. Cheers for the continued 'Massive' support 👍👍👍👍
The second i saw that cap i knew that was it ... the discoloration was a clear giveaway. Fixed a ThinkPad L570 in the same manner a few months ago. Bravo.
micro part like that took it down, lost for words but not suprised. well done again. love vids. you keep saying not an expert but do better than fix shops i been too .
Finding a shorted cap by visual inspection alone, well done Vince!
I love your genuine excitement every time you fix an item. Even though you are extremely competent at what you do, you are still excited at a fix. It is as if you are surprised your efforts worked. I am never surprised that you fix something that can be fixed.
Amazing how this tiny little thing broke the whole system. And you found the actual fault at first time. Brilliant!
That was genuine excitement when the charging light turned on. :)
Thanks Andre 👍👍
I jumped from my chair like if my team make a goal! what a great fix, thanks for so many fun vids like this one Vince!
Vince is either extremely lucky or getting very good at these repairs. Been watching for a few years now and his skills are getting top notch he also has the patience of a saint. For me it would of went in the bin after half hour of looking 😂
Ditto !!
@ I've been buying Alienware laptops and fixing them, usually motherboard problems, and its zero pacience to check whats wrong lol. I just go to Aliexpress and buy them from there
The apprentice has become the master! Great fix Vince! You have come a long way!
Love it, you can practically fix almost anything. I know computer repair services that won't do what you do Vince, they just send them off to the manufacturer. Well done..
Dude, when you plugged in that power cord, I leaned right in to see if the light was on. Your jump and clap scared the sh*t out of me!
If half the repair shops knew as much about repairs as you do, the manufacturers would be in serious trouble...
Hello sir, please can you try and make your videos in english ? you do top repairs but I don't understand german
@@mohsentabouna6401 Pity TH-cam can't translate by now...
@@typicalpctech6674 it can but not very good
@@typicalpctech6674 I think electronics language is easy I just hope he would talk a bit of english, I know he is already doing a lot by making videos alone but his work is so good I wish he could speak a lil even bad english would be perfect
@@mohsentabouna6401 Hello, I will not produce English videos. I am in first line service, not TH-camr. But I'm working on English subtitles, It's going a bit slow as I have to translate all manually, with timing, but 1 video already translated: th-cam.com/video/v6esWRkHMic/w-d-xo.html
Fantastic, Well done Vicne. It is a pleasure to hear you squeal with excitement when you realized you found the problem...and quite quickly may i add
You have definatly come a long way over the past several years that i have been following you. well done
Excellent work! Could hear you starting to get despondent, then when you spotted that cap (amazing work there Sherlock) it was all suspense until the magic moment. Love the excitement from you when it worled! And you are right, when you watch someone like Sorrin fix one, it seems so easy. Well done.
the excitement is so damn relatable. love it
You never let me down with the full blown excitement from fixes! Keep it up and keep them coming!
Hi Vince, just suscribed. I am Paul from the North, Littleborough near Rochdale. Well done for all you do, you have got me started again.
The wifi card right next to power and fans is a staple of great engineering.

Love how far you've come during these last few years, great fix :)
Man Ide be so happy to fix something so nice this easily. This is better computer than I’m working with right now and you paid next to nothing in comparison with its actual value.
My ''so what I am going to the is...'' man! I really enjoyed this video.
The quality of the casing appears to be a million times better than when I worked at an Acer repair centre
@28:20 that's the feeling I am here for .. feels so good :)
well earned fix
Great fix! I will definitely keep this information in mind should my laptop randomly stop working!
Goes from the Switch killer to the laptop saving god, great vlog Vince.............
Hahaha, I have some Apple MacBook's on the channel soon, so I think Mac Killer will be new name!
You should definitely accept more stuff from viewers. It's quite nice to see something expensive that's not a scam from ebay like the MSI laptop😃
I loved so much the part of the video when the laptop turns on and he claps of joy :D
Nice laptop for the price and good fault finding. It's amazing how far you have come.
Thanks PDS, I still massively struggle, but all the comments from yourself, and the others, teach me and lots of other viewers. Great little fix it community we have here 👍👍👍👍
It makes me smile and happy to see your attempting to fix things. Your very good at it. I've been a fan of yours for a few years. I wouldn't know much about continuity if it wasn't for you for teaching me.
I believe that lump of solder allows you by removing it to isolate the previous power stage for troubleshooting. Thanks for the video.
I love the enthusiasm in your voice 🙂 awesome man. Feel sorry for the previous owner, can imagine he got in the bath with a porsche toaster after watching this 😂👍🏼
Well done 👏 I have just stumbled upon your channel, its very interesting. I've fixed my walkman and discman because of your videos. My ipod generation 3 is next. Got a new battery to stick in and hopefully it will hold a charge. Thanks for all the videos.
The pure excitement when that light turned on in your voice is reason enough to try and fix things! Beats any "unboxing" experience. I've never seen a repair video before but have been tinkering with computers for 25 years now. I had no idea those mats existed. The amount of damn screws that I've lost or rolled away, or the amount of times I've stolen tuppaware or plates from the kitchen to store them in! I had no idea how the multi meter helped. I suspect if you give it a detailed visual inspection for burns this type of fix will be gold. I think my hands are too shaky and too many neck issues to attempt something like this myself - but it might make me braver next time something I really like stops working.
Nice work! If you've not done so yet, add a second identical memory stick for a noticeable performance boost (you only showed one but that might have been only during testing).
Thanks. It still only has the one at the moment. I need to buy another 👍👍
good fresking job dude, so nice too see your excitement
When i saw that cap under the microscope, i was like ummmm theres the problem. It looked different from the other looked cracked. Nice video 👍👍
as soon as i saw the video is 40min i knew it will be an easy fix ... from iraq big fan keep it going 🖤🖤
Excellent repair. A visual inspection goes a long way with those caps.
You really are a very intuitive fixer of things. The rest of us wouldn't even have thought to look that far, never mind to take the trouble to see if that one miserable capacitor was the problem. Well done! I am enjoying working my way chronologically through your try-to-fix videos, and learning a lot. Mostly learning to have the guts to keep trying. You're not related to Robert the Bruce and his famous spider, are you? Thank you!
Wow amazing fix, your analysing skills are really great. Imagine if you go to the shop the will charge your a few hunderd pond for one failing component of low value. The world really needs more skill peolple like you. 👍🏻 keep up the great work and videos
these are quickly becoming my favorite repairs
Awesome fix Vince! Always satisfying to get a good result, especially on complex hardware like this. Most of the laptops I get in for repair have blown ICs or water damage - nice to see a relatively easy one for a change :)
Thanks Count, I was very lucky with this one 👍
Another great video Vince, impressed by how you found the fault
Nice price damn. That sound of the most happy person in world now that was very great to watch.
As always great to see an awesome Try to fix by Vince, Laptops are nothing short than a nightmare for me over the years ... maybe one day il have the patience to attempt a fix like this ha !!! Brilliant vid.
I love this repair videos, specially this laptop ones. Im amazed how far you have come
I can't believe it was just that tiny capacitor killing the entire system. I was sure you were on the wrong track because that whole thing looked like a ground plane, but I was very impressed you got it fixed. Congrats on the new laptop :)
Vince, you are a beast. Your troubleshooting skills have come a long way.
Good to see a win... watched loads of yours with fails!... get both ran and higher capacity mvme and good very cheap laptop
You got that awesome beast for 100 Euros, plus postage?!?! You're right, watching another more experienced tech - Mr Rossman, Paul Daniels, NorthRidge, & others - make it look easy, but when you are testing, taking apart, & troubleshooting, it's a lot different! Its self encouraging when you fix something! You may get a pulsing VDC reading in the battery as it may or does charge by a pulse. You got a great deal! Thanks & I subscribed! 🤓
That one was fantastic. Fixing up laptops always gives you that rush!
Fantastic fix Vince, nice to see you hone in on that cap and find the fault. Personally I'd have been lazy and just injected voltage lol
is voltage injection to see if there's any short?
@@StromboliKicks Yes. It should result in the component getting very hot, which aids in identifying it.
@@StromboliKicks yeah as James says, if you inject voltage the shorted component would draw an excessive amount of current and get very hot, then you could either scan around with your finger or use a thermal camera to find the hot components :)
Cheers Coder, can't beat a fix like that. I loved it 👍👍
that's a brilliant repair! congrats Vince. 😎
Amazing job, Vince! can't believe you found that capacitor on the first try!
Wow great eyes noticing that capacitor, very nice job mate 👍
I also had a gaming laptop (Asus ROG G751JY) die on me once when I was trying to install an M.2 SSD to it. Thank good it was under warranty. That thing weighed over 4.5 Kg and it's power brick was literally the size of an actual brick.
Congrats on your repair. Shorted caps on laptops aren't that uncommon, especially those small tantalums (IIRC, that's what they're known as). Problem is that they're often pretty hard to find, you got very lucky this time.
Wonderful job there Vince in getting this laptop fixed and working again. Well done. I can't wait for more.
i said to myself ! shorted caps i watch a lot of rossman i thought it might be the larger black capacitors but amazingly you did it again .well done vince
Very good repair !! I recommend a power meter that you can connect to your electrical outlet for measure the current that a device draws.
A boot able USB stick with LINUX to start a PC / Laptop would certainly also be useful and in such a case I would always change both capacitors if they are so close together
Thank you Sir!
Every time I trouble shoot a high end laptop I always check the mxm graphic card just to make sure it didn't pop out of place.
I'm so amazed! You are inspiring me. I have a couple non-working laptops that I'm going to poke around on. If you didn't live so far away I'd send them to you to make a video about. I'm afraid the shipping would be $$$$$$.
When done Vince. Love the Celebration! Decent little laptop for a tonne
Notebook video is Also Very Nice to watch...
TKS Vince to bring for us this kind of videos....
brilliant fix for cheap vince nice job i genuinely love the yeah its working lol :)
possibly the best fix....to go with all the other best fixes. Great job as usual. Your fault finding really has come on over the years. I see 1 thumbs down and that may be from Jari lol
Hahaha 🤣🤣 I loved this one Emma, a tiny cap causes the whole thing to fail. Perfect fix 👍
Great discovery and repair Vince. You are the Gold Standard. 😁
Hahaha...maybe the bronze standard!!!! Cheers buddy 👍👍👍
Love it! That's the exact laptop I have. Now I know the first thing to check if it happens to die suddenly.
That was really brilliant and interesting to watch. Seriously that was good viewing!
Very well done Vince! :)
I am amazed that you would be able to pick that one out of all the other ones there. If I was to look through it there would have been no way I would have noticed it and probably just chalked it up to being dirty.
Great fix, nice troubleshooting on this one! In the past year or 2 you've come a long long way Vince. :)
16:15 i was screaming that since the first beep, of course you would notice it too. Great repair mate!
Isn't it great how the smallest of things stop big things from working? I had a clock oscillator fail in a bus ECU and it was brain dead without the tiny crystal to generate clock ticks! A massive bus turned into a paperweight because of an ANT sized component! 😂 That capacitor is the same with your laptop. I have a Nitro 5 coming in with the same completely dead symptom, I hope the fix is as easy! Great job!!
New subscriber here. Great channel. Love how you approach each project. Easy to listen too. And wow I have so many new videos to watch on youre channel. New favourite.
Acer is specializing in easy to die electronics, nice job as always :)
Hope you're proud of yourself. Well done Vince
Absolutely brilliant Vince. Excellent repair, sir.
im allways pleased when i fix something
wish people send me things to fix got nothin fix at min
That’s a bloody good laptop for 100 Euro’s! Good spec. Very usable. Good fix too.
You make it look so simple. Bad looking component = Fix. Got lucky this time.
Well done Vince, your getting better and better with these fixes.
Vince, you are a genius. Well done!
Quality fix Vince, great job 😁😁👌
Cheers Joey 👍👍👍👍
It amazes me how many repairs you have were it is a ceramic capacitor that is shorted.
I love the fact that you had the stones to try another one of these. Good man!
19:44 smb capacitor = 1 cent, knowing how to fix it = $100/hour. Amazing! Thumbs up.
Well traced. its so rewarding when a fix like this occurs.
I have to drain the battery in my wireless headphones in order to fix them .
Thought I’d use your playlist to do it .
Thanks for helping me fix my headphones Vince 😂
Thought maybe you zapped yourself...but nope, you just got super excited for the fix :-D Makes me wanna clean up my desk so I can randomly throw molten solder around till I fix something :-D or break something...but then I get to fix it!
I'd have gone for a 12 uf cap mate but you'll be around the ballpark at what you had, well done mate
Great video! I can use this as a reference if something ever happens to my laptop. My laptop is an Acer Nitro with a GTX 1050 but based on the motherboard layout, I can say it is almost the same.
Another great video. Your channel has gotten huge.
What a good find this was, thanks for this video, I really enjoyed it.
I am so Happy you were able to fix that Laptop Vince. I have an ACER laptop, my first laptop, (My Baby), but not that model, I love that brand, If you've noticed they never advertised on TV there computers, but, they have been around for many years and, they are good machines. I was getting worried at first Vince, But your keen eye and patients, payed off. Great Video. Keep up the Good work. And keep those Video's coming. P.S. It's a wonderful and great feeling when you can fix something that you have never worked on before. You are the man Vince, you are our hero, Diving into the unknown, LOL.When it comes to first-time Repair. I know I know sometimes you lose some, and sometimes you win some, but, when you win it's an awesome feeling, And We Feel Your Excitement. Great Job.
Great work mate👍 not sure how you spotted the capacitor being cracked as they are bloody tiny!, watched this while replacing a linx 1010b screen for a mates daughter 😁 but I appreciate the time and effort you put in to your videos, keep up the good work 👍
"as always the wrong amount of thermal paste" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 nice fix! :)
tronicsfix will be furious!
