How to change or replace Garmin Vivo Active 3 battery (see description)

  • Disclaimer:
I first recorded this video last year. Now the watch is no longer working, and I suspected it was due to the software update rather than the battery itself. So please be aware that this is not a guaranteed way of fixing your watch. I was just trying to fix this broken watch without any hopes up and it worked at that time. Try it as your last resort.

Great Video.. ...But please watch in its entirety several times. I was replacing the battery, doing it step by step, and she initially says to pull the battery wire out, which I did. By doing so , the entire battery plug pulled out and I destroyed the watch. You should lift the connector out of its connection, which she states afterwards. Not the simplest to perform

User beware this should be a last resort to tossing out the watch as you have about a 50/50 chance of breaking your watch. That being said this is a great video, thank you for taking the time to post it. I've repaired about a dozen phones over the years with screen, battery, and button replacements so I figured it was worth a shot since Garmin prefers you throw this in a landfill. Removing the faceplate takes some careful patience. Be careful using a heat gun as you can damage the screen or melt the lens of the heart rate monitor like I did. Also, I used the same glue and my face fell off one day about a month later. If you pull this off successfully assume your watch is no longer waterproof and start putting money aside for a new one as your vivoactive is on it's last leg. After new replacing the battery I'm getting around 4 days of battery life with 4-5 hours of gps tracked activities. Hooray!

i absolutely despise throw away culture, Garmin don't seem to care about this though, they would much prefer you send your devices to landfill and force you to spend money on a new one, rather than offer a simple service like in this video. Thanks for posting this! really can't afford a new watch right now so hopefully i can fix it myself thanks to you!

Thanks. Great video. Followed the instructions and changed it in about 20 minutes. Hairdryer essential to warm the glue up enough all round to remove the face. Bought a replacement battery kit online with removal tools and the b7000 glue separately. Total spend about £25. As per other comments, can't believe Garmin don't offer this service as my experience of Garmin watches, batteries only last 18-24 months which is an expensive consumable item!

Garmin sucks, for a 6 years old approach S60 , they refused to replace it ,but generously allows à 20% escount on à S62 ! I found the battery for 13 euros and apparantlty , thanks this video , I understand I could not be able to change it alone and I think I found a seller who also changes the battery!

Hi, great video. Some advice re the battery connector. If you pull sideways (in the direction of the wires) you will probably pull the wires out of the connector. The connector can be taken out of its socket by lifting it up vertically, and when you plug the new battery connector in, you push it down into the socket. Not understanding this caused me a few problems, but luckily I was able to replace the battery without breaking anything, and the watch works fine now.

Great video, I just changed my battery in 30 minutes following your video and the suggestions below. I just don't understand why Garmin do not fix their devices, as it's so easy. they prefer to make you pay a replacement. however, it's fun and cheap to try and fix them. thanks! 🙂

Thank you for letting us watch your experiment. Good video, but followers need to watch the whole video first or else they will repeat your mistakes. I was able to successfully change the battery and all that is left is to see how long the new battery will last. I'll avoid charging the new battery in anything except a computer USB port. A good magnifying glass, and flashlight with a second pair of hands I would call essential. Assembly is harder than battery removal. I will add that I would rather have paid someone to do this procedure, and the old battery was lasting less than 10 hours after a full charge.

    • @pdcommfire
      @pdcommfire ปีที่แล้ว +1

A few days later, watch is still working, but a full charge only lasts 3 days. I would attribute this to the quality of the replacement battery, which was a CS Cameron Sino 3.7V 160mAh/0.59Wh.

For those replacing the battery, take the watch apart slowly, there is no rush. The glue around the top of the watch seems to be more become more pliable with heat but it is brittle so it will "let go" which is fine. Know that the battery connector is -- pushed in -- from the top. It does not need to slide out. If you look closely at the connector on the new battery, you can see that it "sits" in the connector. Be very careful with removing the old battery from the connector as it is not firmly secured to the body of the watch.

Just replaced the battery following this guide, everything worked out well! The only thing that kinda sucks is having to reglue the watch face. It’s hard to do a nice, clean job since the face is such a tight fit. Overall though, not too bad. 👍

Good video thank you. Agree that the vid needs to be watched a couple of times and care taken. My watch is a vivoactive but not exactly same as yours. I didnt need to replace battery but still needed to strip the watch to same level as I need a new whole back case due to one of the watch strap corners snapping off. Nightmare. All I need now is to buy the glue. Another point its worth buying a cheap little watch tool kit from online to help and not to scratch watch or any other gadgets. Thx again saved me quite a few quid or worse binning the watch.

@@ashleytee I got a swap when I went to their authorised service centre as they said they do not replace battery. They charged like SGD 160. Now my battery life is getting bad (ie. not enough to last a round of golf, using GPS) and they said this model is obsolete and no service available. I too asked if the software update was the cause of battery drain. They have not answer. And also there is no possibility to restore the older version of the software to the watch. With your video, I now know how to open the watch, and that a replacement battery actually exist! hahaha. As to Garmin, it is really poor after sale service.

The most difficult is to remove the battery old connector... You have to lift it up, if you pull it with the battery it breaks (then you will just loose a lot of time to remove it, it might be more easy to cut the cables and solder them...)

Refer to your video, thanks, I replace the battery successfully. But the new battery only last 24hrs after charging full, same situation as original battery.
But actually at the first time i didn’t press PCB to bottom so it can not be charged, however the battery just drop 2% after 10 hrs. To fix charging problem, I opened the case again and remember to screwed the PCB to bottom, after that charging function is working, but battery power dropped very quickly. Still need to charge it every day….
Just share my experience to you all.
