Ixalan was the first plane I made a deck strictly using cards from the plane. Its changed how I made decks to be built upon the stories and lore of magic. This is an exciting listen
This was a great video, but it sucks that there was no dinosaur lore in it. I have so many questions. Where did the dinosaurs come from? Were they also in the core with the humans or were they on the surface? Were they created by Chimil or the other gods or did they evolve or were created separately? Are dinosaurs supposed to be divine beings as well as depicted by the elder dinosaurs and the avatars of the three suns? Didn't the Sun Empire worship them or something? Why were the elder dinosaurs imprisoned in Azcanta? Does this have something to do with the Immortal Sun? Does the Immortal Sun and the three suns have connections with Chimil, the core, or the other gods? There are so many questions that I don't have the answers for. What do you think? (Also, there wasn't enough dinosaur love in the lore this time and that sucks because I love dinosaurs and it's what got me back into Magic when the first Ixalon sets came out. They got shafted lore-wise and I want more.)
With the card "star of extintion" we can infer that the dinosaurs were in the third or fourth version of ixilan befor chimil wipped at leasert most of them from the world before its remaking. And the immortal sun was made by Azor and Ugin to trap bolas.
Wow, all of this amazing rich lore for the plane. Not one mention of dinosaurs (the main reason I play/purchase these sets), but with such interesting history and storylines, the plane can exist without them and I'd still consider Ixalan one of my favorite planes with the hollow earth civilization as the cherry on top. With the Mycotyrant and the Bat god still at large, we should expect a follow up set in the next couple of years. With the omen paths at play, any one of them can become a Bolas/Phyrexian, multi-plane threat -- the potential is definitely there. He isnt a true god. He was a being from the 4th age that gained "immortality" and as he saw each god born from the nothing he was locked in he realized true immortality cane from godhood. So he ate the last god as it was being born, this ascending to godhood. But he is no true god himself
I've also thought about this. How does the two distinct origins of the vampires reconcile, and what's the link beetween this ancient history and the Immortal Sun (that existed before beeing tampered by Azor, for what I had understood)?
I don’t think it’s too hard to link the First Vampire Elanda and this organ together. Elanda is simply the First vampire of the order/people that would become the legion of dusk Her turning to dark powers could easily either be Aglozotz or one of his followers, and then the narrative is told of her being the origin. The story in this set has the vampires sort of pointing to the idea that they think the story they’ve been told is a lie
I feel like Chimil is an inconsistent “character”, if we can call it that. Like why does it let itself be trapped by the Fomori when it obliterates them so easily as it’s freed? And the cosmium, I thought the shards around Chimil were made of this material, cuz, in the stories, Huatli taking a bit of the shard and it was made of cosmium. But I guess it’s a remnant of Chimil’s old prison, which wasn’t made of cosmium if cosmium is made by Chimil. Unless Chimil made its own prison, but made it look like it was the Foromi’s creation, and Chimil is actually the bad guy, trying to kill Aclazotz who barely clings to life and is highly xenophobic. It would have given its children the same qualities, which explains why the other races on Ixalan are so hostile towards humans. It also partially explains why Wayta (I think that’s her name) is so offended when she learns Quint studies her history, even though he works with Huatli. But hey, it’s just a theory, a Magic theory *wink wink*
I've been into Magic for about 23 years, and I never thought about deck strategies. I'm only interested in the lore and love the world building through things like the planswalker guides. I wounder how the plans of the multiverse are created?
Humanoid shaped creatures: anybody else want in on this sets plot? Dinosaurs: …… fiiiiine, we’ll hang, but we don’t wanna be necessary to the plot with you.
I wonder if this story heralds the return of the Fomori. They've hardly been a big name. Just another passing name. Might not be so bad IF they can keep up these decent stories. Still need to slow it down and pace more though

Seing as Ixilon was the Magic set that got me into the game, its cool to see it got so much new lore.
