I like how Mr. Sandman's trick is that he has no trick. He is just the Ultimate Good Boxer. His gimmick is more of a boast about how much of a beast he is in the ring.
I think this game's recovery system is one of my favorite "second-chance" systems as you can be on the verge of being knocked out, but if you are good at pressing buttons repeatedly, you can stay in the match. And you aren't limited to just one second chance, you can set your foot down at least two times (I'm not sure if it goes higher).
Fun Fact: Mr. Sandman's record in this game is 31-0, the exact same record as Mike Tyson in NES Punch-Out!! Plus in the 2nd run title defense, he does the blinking gimmick like Tyson. If that's not a reference its a hell of a coincidence.

I never noticed, every other boxer is an archetype or stereotype of some kind, Mr. Sandman's whole deal is just "I'm the best and I will END you."
Besides the winking, some moves don't even have a tell or windup. Your reactions have to be so locked in otherwise he will destroy you lol

Sandman delays his right fist overheard but does the left fist overhead as soon as he raises it. Not sure how long it takes them to figure that out
