How To Be A PJ. Back in 1972 I really wanted to be a PJ...but I was out from the "get go" ...vision was not good. Two questions if you don't mind...who has the toughest swimming program...PJs, Coast Guard Rescue Swimmer, or Naval SEAL. The second question...Would the PJ INDOC/Training been tougher in 1972 or is it tougher now? Thanks. Retired USAF MSgt...24 years.
We are all trained to swim in the worst conditions, there are some guys who are just faster than others just like anything. We do have some competitions from time to time and its always a toss-up. Indoc is just as hard now as it was before, the biggest difference is that we have a lesson plan now.
U can give it a try. But if u fail, just know that the Air Force is probably going to put u in a job that u are probably going to hate for the remainder of your enlistment.
If you are able to clarify, the cert that says "...Street Figher/CQB certified" is this an Army Combatives course or does the Air Force have their own version? Also for the "SOF Medic" cert, would this be similar to the SOCM 18D attend. It was my understanding that PJs used to attend the 18D course, but no longer do as the PJs have their own course. Was wondering if the PJs were possibly going back.
It is not an Army or Airforce course, we go to privately run courses from former and current tier 1 operators as well as some of the standard army courses such as Airborne. We go to SOFMSSC for refreshers as well but also have the option to go to whatever courses fit our needs
How would you compare the daily lives of a CRO/PJ attached to an STS squad vs a RQS squad? You said that the STS operator needs to be more squared away and know what they're doing a little bit better. What would be the main mission of the RTS operator? Obviously, RQS operators would be solely devoted to rescuing people, but what about the STS operator? SEAL's and CCT aren't necessarily devoted to pulling people out of the fire or what have you.
I can imagine that they rush one of the courses oh, and I'm thinking that would be the emt-b course. Or just might be the EMT paramedic course, which would be insane. Because the pharmacology training in the paramedic course is monotonous unto itself.
I don't like to touch on such a sensative subject but it's really important to my decision, is it common as a PJ to be in a position where you may have to kill someone? Or is it rare and only happens in defense? Please help me if you would with this question, thank you
Yes you will most likely at some point in your career have to shoot someone pjs fly in helicopters with .50 machine guns if a plane got shot down and your trying to save the pilot then there is a possibility that there will be hostiles at the plane. While I get the premise of not wanting to kill anyone you are joining the military so no matter what job you do you will have to accept the fact that you might have to kill a man or they just might kill you
Well if you going to a place where people are shooting at you, make a choice are you going to shoot back so that your brothers can live or just freeze and not shoot back the saying “that others may live” is meaning that you will defend the wounded and save others by using your tools (your rifle) to get them home because in the end it’s either you or the enemy that lives
Only fire/kill when being fired upon by the enemy. PJs (in the RQS) dont go out deliberately to kill bad guys, their primary job is to save. But if they are landing at a hostile area with enemy engaging u then u are gonna have to shoot back and kill them. If u are a STS PJ, that means u will be joining other SOFs to go out and conduct operations (probably kill but depends) against enemy where u most likely need to kill enemies.
What are the clinical hours like for a PJ? Because in order to obtain your EMT basic or EMT paramedic within the national registry, you have to log in a certain amount of hours doing patient assessments via clinical hours.
@@baileys6346 did not help, clinical hours is your time assessing patients, whether it takes place in an EMS or hospital environment and is a *mandatory prerequisite* in order to work in just about any medical field.
John Smith he’s BLS certified and has his NREMT-P. Depends on the program, I’m not sure if the national registry has a set requirement for clinical hours specifically. I wouldn’t doubt with that many certifications and tenure he’s probably got upwards of 800+
1 thing I know about PJ is that their medical training is highly condensed, they learn and practise a lot of hours a day, I think I have heard of it going up to 12-13 hours a day.

its a "boys only club" , not because of sexism, training is just really brutal and the longest in all military branches....you have a better chance with rangers or seals, women are allowed there.
So far there have been no female PJs, but all jobs in the military have been opened up to females, so u can give it a try. But I do have to remind u that training pipeline is very grueling, fail rate as high as 90%, and its very long, 2 years. Bcoz of its high fail rate and how long the training, its also referred as Superman School. Like this PJ said, after u graduated from the pipeline, u will go on to have operational upgrade training for 1-2 years.
2 questions. 1, are you able to train to level 5 while deployed if you deploy right after the pipeline or do you have to stay in a training setting to advance? 2, is it possible to switch between STS and RQS like between deployments or would you be versed in one or the other?
*oh, so you mean superhero training? damn, **4:06**, really the jack of all trades! sounds like a job for me, but I love youtube and piloting a lot. We only typically have shifts when we are on deployment. When we are stateside, the time you are home is variable between whether or not you are going TDY or ar doing a night training line. Every day is different and its one of the best things about the job. If there is a chance to let you go home early, then you will go home early in the understanding that there will be times when you have to stay late or work odd hours
How To Be A PJ thank you for the reply and the info! But can you let me know about the swimming part, I can’t swim swim will they show me or should I not bother putting it on my list

Is this possible or feasible ?
One big question I have been searching for, how does the two years of constant training being away affect your romantic life (not being able to meet people) thanks love the videos man!!
That’s not for someone else to answer, unfortunately. That’s up to you. Do you want to have a relationship while going through a program that requires almost 100% time and dedication for 2 years? I know I wouldn’t. If I wanted to do this I’d dedicate my time to it and then afterwards I’d go the route of relationship. Even then - you’re special forces. Look at the time commitment for any of the SF programs even after their form of “boot camp”.
So I got a question is cct training and pj training the exact same or is 1 a little easier then the other (I'm really bad in water so I was wondering which 1 maybe had less water training in it) though I would still go the route I'm taking even if it involves more water
Like KHAIAS said they're both hard in their own ways. Statistically CCTs have a higher fail rate. But PJs training is much longer. So if u are a guy that cant handle being in a tough training for too long, then u would struggle in PJ training bcoz its almost 2 years long. And PJ training deals a lot with water (both as much and as hard as Navy SEALs swim & water training) especially its indoc (now A&S), so like u said u are bad in water, so u probably will struggle in PJ training more. Note: U will eventually need to attend the Air Force Combat Diver Course which is 6 weeks no matter u go CCT or PJ, difference is in PJ u attend the course during the pipeline, in CCT u attend it after the pipeline.
Thank you for this video, between SCS and RQS , do you have the option of choosing which route you can go ? and halfway through the career could you switch between SCS and RQS ?
I believe u can put in a request but its depending on the needs of the Air Force. Those assigned to STS will have to attend additional training portion, called the Special Tactics Advanced Skills Training, to train them in special operations skills and tactics since they will be working with other SOFs.
Hey Brother have a question, are PJ’S able to transfer there skills to civilian life? I heard that you gain a EMT certification afterwards, but just want to make sure.
Yes they can. PJs have broad range of skills that can be translated into civilian careers, they can be paramedics, they can also be aeromedical medics, they can work in civilian SAR (whether in dive, urban structural collapse, mountain, crevasse, swift water, ocean, glacier and much more). They can work in many emergency first responder jobs bcoz of their highly specialized skills and experiences.
When you go to enlist can you choose PJ? I heard the Air Force puts you where they need you, you don’t get to choose. And if you wash out, do you go home or do a different MOS?
For when I signed up I had to go to a specific recruiter about an hour away from me. SOR is specifically for spec ops recruiting (cct, pj, tacp, and weather) they can only give those jobs, if you want a normal job then they transfer you to a normal recruiter. As far as enlist if you're wanting to do it then ask, when I asked I was given the job. But keep in mind when you sign you only sign a service contract, when you complete the PAST test is where you'll be given the MOS contract if your choice (in my case it's pj) and that's as far as I've been, ship date is June 11 for me.
Sorry I told you the wrong info... CROs don’t have any formal medical certifications mabye get EMT basic when they get to the teams but it’s not there job. They do a lot of planning, paperwork, and administrative work.
@Antonio Baldeo no the CRO is not EMT certified. They lead and only lead. I was fortunate enough to talk to two active duty CRO's and they told me that if they're providing first aid at any point, they are in a REALLY bad situation. That's one of the reasons why I quit school after being two years in AFROTC because I'd rather be the one doing the medical stuff
CROs went through a period where they were EMT-B and it was turned off. Although they will get training on how to do an IV and put on tourniquets, they will not get an official EMT-B or Paramedic certification.
THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOUR TRADE DOES. I WAS USAF myself. My church prays for all MILITARY fist first responders and police every week for your safety. Come home safe.
Yes there are CROs in STS within the last 5 years or so they opened up the billets, so they are still kind of in flux as to where they fall in the mission set of the STS
So this comment is a few years too late (hopefully not) but I was wanting to become a PJ because I love the aspect of saving my brothers in need but I also want to be in gaged in combat. Would PJs be the correct SOF for me or do you have another branch/ team I should look into?
Pjs are extremely competent in combat. They go on all types of combat missions. They were in the recovery of operation red wings, I’m pretty sure they where also in black hawk down. So if you want to save lives, and train for combat. Pjs are for you.
I was wondering if it is very hard to have a family and be APJ.. Do you eventually have a home base with your family And just travel to different areas when you need to be deployed and return when the mission is over? Just wonder if it is possible to do this job and also have a family.
Brian is and always will be extremely supportive and answer all questions check him out @ Beapj.com. I also suggest others who wanna be a PJ to look at his gear/training recommendations. His recommendations have given me inspiration, motivation and have also made this process easier. He has a lot of info on the new PAST Test also. Thanks Brian and all.
I need some thoughts so I am thinking of doing 2 CSAR/SAR jobs: AIRR and PJ I am thinking if I DO AIRR for 7 years since the whole pipeline is 1 year then transfer to the Air Force and become a PJ. What do you think?
AIRR rarely conduct any rescue. Their primary job is helicopter aircrew, but they conduct rescue in ocean if have to, but a current AIRR told me its very rare to conduct ocean rescue to retrieve ejected fighter jets pilots.
@@whitneyanderson855 it's super hard for everyone anyways being a girl won't that big a difference in how hard it will be. If you really want to do it nothing will hold you back.
pj's are enlisted, if you have at least a bachelor's degree, and you want to do this, then you go the CRO (combat rescue officer) route....PJ's and CRO's do the same thing except PJ's are trained in paramedics and CRO's are not.
No. CROs and PJs are not the same. PJs are enlisted and CROs are officers and CROs do not have medical training. CROs plan the missions and PJs execute the missions.
Be prepared to be treated worse than the men though. They’re harder on women cause they don’t want you to be there. You’ll be the one they always pick to try and break.
Amandla D currently, I dont this so. Just recently have we gained the opportunity to try out, but very few have stepped up. Let’s be the first to make it.
Samir Yankey I was thinking the same exact thing but I don’t think so. I not sure but I think he has his own type of secret service unit that specializes in rescue operations I’m not sure about it though but I have heard it from a police officer when I was attending a event.
No it would most likely be the secret services while SWAT would probably come in as well since it's a terrorist attack or whatever plus the president is usually surrounded by a few marines because they take orders straight from the president

So I got a question is cct training and pj training the exact same or is 1 a little easier then the other
(I'm really bad in water so I was wondering which 1 maybe had less water training in it) though I would still go the route I'm taking even if it involves more water
t 8 they are not the same at all. Two different pipelines. Both hard in their own ways.
I see that Naval special warfare cert. What was that for ?
Diving Supervisor
Hey Brother have a question, are PJ’S able to transfer there skills to civilian life? I heard that you gain a EMT certification afterwards, but just want to make sure.
Their**
Yes they can.
Hey I'd someone had adhd would they still be able to enlist
When you go to enlist can you choose PJ? I heard the Air Force puts you where they need you, you don’t get to choose. And if you wash out, do you go home or do a different MOS?
Dakota McIntire I’m also wondering.
Corey M what do you mean sign a service contract and PAST test?
Who gets more medical training, PJs or SF Medical Sergeants?
18d, they are proficient in veterinary, water treat and even dental work, but they are Green Beret first. Medic second.
To be clear, CROs do NOT become EMT certified?
Antonio Baldeo I think that is correct because CROs job is to lead PJs.
Ethan Stone thank you very much
Sorry I told you the wrong info...
How long is the contract for becoming a PJ?
It's really hard to hear you with the background music so loud
Honestly like wtf
What do you think about canada SAR TECH?
Any advice for anyone training for it from highschool? I have the prep document from my cousin who is a recruiter.
Get in the pool and make it your home!
How To Be A PJ it’s hard for me to run, so should I work in the pool more or on the track?
Both are required! Check out beapj.com and look at the Grad standards and HIT THOSE NUMBERS!
THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOUR TRADE DOES. I WAS USAF myself. My church prays for all MILITARY fist first responders and police every week for your safety. Come home safe.
Were you ever attached to an STS squadron? Also, can you request to be part of an STS squadron or are you picked out?
Thanks for the info I wanted to ask. Are there any CROs in STS or are they primarily in RQS?? Thanks for proving us with info keep it up 👍
Yes there are CROs in STS within the last 5 years or so they opened up the billets, so they are still kind of in flux as to where they fall in the mission set of the STS
Thank you so much for the reply 😁
So this comment is a few years too late (hopefully not) but I was wanting to become a PJ because I love the aspect of saving my brothers in need but I also want to be in gaged in combat. Would PJs be the correct SOF for me or do you have another branch/ team I should look into?
Pjs are extremely competent in combat. They go on all types of combat missions. They were in the recovery of operation red wings, I’m pretty sure they where also in black hawk down. So if you want to save lives, and train for combat. Pjs are for you.
@@saggymcsaggerson9033 nice
I was wondering if it is very hard to have a family and be APJ.. Do you eventually have a home base with your family And just travel to different areas when you need to be deployed and return when the mission is over? Just wonder if it is possible to do this job and also have a family.
im going to be a pj when im older
You and me both. How old? I'm 17.
@@jasonbasant5624 im only 12
@@zacharyward4539 I'm only 13
Brian is and always will be extremely supportive and answer all questions check him out @ Beapj.com. I also suggest others who wanna be a PJ to look at his gear/training recommendations. His recommendations have given me inspiration, motivation and have also made this process easier. He has a lot of info on the new PAST Test also. Thanks Brian and all.
Nice your vedio i like your voice seem's dj radio...
I need some thoughts so I am thinking of doing 2 CSAR/SAR jobs: AIRR and PJ I am thinking if I DO AIRR for 7 years since the whole pipeline is 1 year then transfer to the Air Force and become a PJ. What do you think?
Good video
AIRR rarely conduct any rescue. Their primary job is helicopter aircrew, but they conduct rescue in ocean if have to, but a current AIRR told me its very rare to conduct ocean rescue to retrieve ejected fighter jets pilots.
I wanna be a PJ sooooo bad
Me too but I'm a girl so it will be really hard😥
@@whitneyanderson855 I'm a girl and they said I qualify
@@whitneyanderson855 it's super hard for everyone anyways being a girl won't that big a difference in how hard it will be. If you really want to do it nothing will hold you back.
Officers dont get paramedic training?
Is it common to have a college degree before going to become a pj?
pj's are enlisted, if you have at least a bachelor's degree, and you want to do this, then you go the CRO (combat rescue officer) route....PJ's and CRO's do the same thing except PJ's are trained in paramedics and CRO's are not.
Jesus's son Thanks man I appreciate the response 👌
Are all CROs PJs but not all PJs CROs?
No. CROs and PJs are not the same. PJs are enlisted and CROs are officers and CROs do not have medical training. CROs plan the missions and PJs execute the missions.
How well of a swimmer do you need to be to get through your training to be a PJ?
You need gills
ASVAB scores?
50
What if I’m scuba certified
Then you have an advantage but your still going to have to go through the training
Can females join to become a PJ?
Yep they can! I'm planning to do Pararescue, I'm a female too
As of 2016, yes! And what’s better, is that standards won’t be lowered for women. If a woman could pass the pipeline, they’re PJs.
Love the videos and website etc but the music on this one is distracting, better without.
Just trying out some stuff, thanks for the feedback
Would you say it’s as dangerous as being a seal? I’m trying to get an idea of how dangerous it actually is.
So as a PJ you must attend SOF medic school??
No, PJs attend their own specific paramedic training. They don't attend Special Operations Combat Medic (SOCM) course.
Whot,a pj oque seginifica
r u a pj or former?
Can women be pjs?
Yes. All SOF jobs are open to women now.
Be prepared to be treated worse than the men though. They’re harder on women cause they don’t want you to be there. You’ll be the one they always pick to try and break.
No woman has ever made it, but they’re open to try
Are there any females in this field?
Amandla D currently, I dont this so. Just recently have we gained the opportunity to try out, but very few have stepped up. Let’s be the first to make it.
@@AW-nr6no good luck
It's a male only job
Alex miller it is not (technically). The US opened all special ops jobs to females. Has there been a female PJ? No. Could there be? Yes.
Daniel weirdo vato please stay in front of a screen playing fortnite and i hope thats the only experience you have jumping out of anything
Can you be a PJ with a 4 year contract?
Are there any girls as PJs?
Not currently, there has still not been a girl to reach Indoc.
Elisabeta Rusu No but it’s open to Females
I did 6 years af security police hated it. Glorified mall security
Anyone else 16 and determined to be a PJ? Me too, currently making gaming videos lmao
Same, I’m dedicated to becoming one
Best replace time gaming for a swimming class, that’s what I’m doing.
In your experience, have you had to kill anyone while rescuing someone?
Hey man can you say this with Less Enthusiasm, your energy is Overwhelming
PJs risk their lives to save lives. That's it. No need for video :)
In case of a terrorist attack on the White House would PJs come to rescue the president or not?
Samir Yankey I was thinking the same exact thing but I don’t think so. I not sure but I think he has his own type of secret service unit that specializes in rescue operations I’m not sure about it though but I have heard it from a police officer when I was attending a event.
No it would most likely be the secret services while SWAT would probably come in as well since it's a terrorist attack or whatever plus the president is usually surrounded by a few marines because they take orders straight from the president
Glorified paramedics
Dennis Morris battle trained paramedics.
Dennis Morris what do you do?
More like paramedics on steroids
