Carrie read to her all the time, starting from the beginning. We’ve read to our son since he was a newborn and now he loves reading!

Totally agree. My son is dyslexic but I really feel reading to him helped him Love story telling and writing - even though he struggles with the physical process he is an amazing oral storyteller. I read to him until he was 12-13 almost every night. We also read all the classics together so he knows all those stories and can say he read them - the hobbit, wind in the willows, Harry Potter, Ursula Le Guin, Philip Pullman, etc

I totally agree! I started a bed, book, bottle routine from maybe 4 weeks old (mostly to help me have a little bit of structure in those endless early days) and it really helped right from the start to get her going down well for bedtime (which has continued through to now at 12 months old). She loved the touchy feely ones

I completely agree with this comment as well! I was read to from a very young age, and by the time I was in elementary school, I was reading at college level. I love reading! And I think it’s really helped me to do well in life, because I’m able to absorb things more quickly and easily than I would if I didn’t like reading. Reading has really been a gift that has liberated me in my life, and one of the things I’m most thankful for now that I’m an adult.

It will help with development of communication, which you want as a 2 year old who can communicate can express their needs in words easier

I started reading to mine in the womb. Also the thing I think every new mum underestimates is the amount of sheets you need. After 4 explosions from one end or another in one night and it's still only 4am you suddenly realise that 3 or 4 doesn't cut it. be prepared. I had a few new sets for my second and picked up a ton of spares second hand and was so glad I did.

You have so got the right idea about not stressing having everything before baby gets here, I pushed so hard to have our cot up before she got here meanwhile we didn't use till she was 6 months old

Tip for the antique dresser - Grab a candle and run it over over the edges of your drawers and on the runners inside the dresser. Will help a lot! In the long run, get Alex to run his sander/planner over the edges of the drawers and then oil them. Wood expands and shifts so ends up sticking.

The Hairy Maclary series by Lynley Dodd is absolutely brilliant. Everything rhymes & they're such a fun and easy read. Well worth a read if you're looking for something fun & engaging for your little girl 😊

Wow Carrie you’re so organised and you’ve created such a lovely space for baby girl ❤. If you don’t want to do wallpaper then decal stickers are a good option! You can get such lovely ones these days that they look like wallpaper. They can be changed up and easily pulled off the walls when you’re time for a change 😊

Yes read to her! We started a reading routine from the newborn phase which we still do now. Every morning after my boy’s first bottle we read a few books. We still do it now 🥰 and your little one will change how she engages with the books as she grows!

Agree with not doing creature decal - you can use room accessories that are much easier to swap out.

Agreed! And you’re daughter will start to develop her own loves and passions, and you can use those to decorate the room in a couple of years.

Looks like you are ready to go!! If you are having your baby in a hospital I would take your nursing pillow. I slept on mine and then used it to nurse both times and it was a life saver. So comfortable and it won’t get mixed up with the hospital pillows. It also saves your back since you will be in football position most the time. ❤

Love the pregnancy vibes and how content and happy and excited you are! You look fabulous!
Not trying to give advice, just sharing my experience: we had a lovely crib given to us from my in-laws. I always had the idea in my head that when you have a baby, you have to have a crib. We have used the crib for one momth and our baby just hates it. We ended up putting a floor bes in her room once she outgrew her bedside bassinet. We co-sleep on the floor bed a lot. It just works perfectly for us. Some nights she sleeps there alone, some she needs one of us there. We stressed ourself so much about the whole sleeping situation and now, leaving all expectations how it “should be” behind, we are happier than ever.
We also read to our baby since the beginning and she loves her books. Books have been her favorite toys for 19 months now❤️

With the antique dresser drawer that you have, which has difficulty closing and opening- you might want to look into wood wax to lubricate the wooden tracks the sliders are on, if you plan on keeping it for another room. Sometimes that can make it start opening and closing easily again. Also, if needed, you might be able to retrofit it, by taking out the old sliders (which are probably wood), and replacing them with metal sliders.

It looks like your well on your way to making a beautiful room for baby girl. I love the Beatrix Potter prints so I hope you find a few more. The hydrangea
bush outside the window is stunning and the view is bucolic. Enjoy your getaway!

You can do a removable peel and stick wallpaper. So it’s easy to apply and remove. Doesn’t require glue and doesn’t damage the walls.

Carrie you made me laugh mentioning your Virgo heart, I'm also a Virgo and had draws of diapers and clothes sorted just like yours. It's such an exciting time. You look fabulous and it seems amazing that in a few weeks time baby will be born and you'll have the freedom of having your body back. Enjoy this time now. All the very best

Hi Carrie! Getting exciting now! Why don't you frame some of the woodland wallpaper so it's still in there but can be moved or taken down when you don't want it there. Just an idea 😊

Read to her early and often! It will help her speech and communication development especially if you are able to read in your normal voice (not baby voice) but that part might be hard to do lol

im the same as you where I don't want to do things on the wall that I know wont stay for forever but I still want to do something sweet in the nursery. So, I just did sticker decals above our wainscoting that can easily be removed later but they actually stick very well also so they don't just fall off. got off of amazon

We did not even have a bassinet when my son was born. So he spent the first 3 weeks of his life sleeping in his carseat, because that was all we had. We finally found a bassinet, so he slept in that from 3 weeks until 5 months when he outgrew it. Then he went to a Cot (Crib) at age 5 months and finally to a single bed at age 2 years.
And yes, please read to your baby as much as possible. I read to my son from age 2 when he moved to the "big" bed until the age of 10 when he said he didnt need it any more.
I found that my son learned how to recognise the spelling, from the words in the books. I never taught him phonetic spelling. He may or may not have learnt that in school. Anyway, he also learned english grammar by the repetition or words. He was reading fluently by age 7.
Just be aware that in NZ schools, she will have to learn the "british" spelling - colour, labour, neighbour, centre, etc. She is less likely to pass any spelling tests with american spelling or words.
You will just have to put much LESS emphasis on the American spelling at home. At home its not that much of a deal. In school it is.

Those zipper sleepers are a God send. All those baby clothes with little tiny buttons and snaps are horrible. And in the middle of the night with a screaming baby who needs to be changed you’ll be over-joyed with the zipper no fuss!! ♥️

    • @SezShares

Zips for the win! Also double ended zipped onesies make changes sooo easy. Bonds do a great range.

    • @jamiecarter2192
      @jamiecarter2192 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Zippers are great! But also - we ended up also liking snap onesies as they seemed more comfortable for baby at certain times of his first year. Zippy onesies can be a bit tight on one of the legs and you have to really fold one of the legs to get it in. Sometimes snap onesies seem more comfortable

I wish I read to my newborn more. I just felt so silly reading aloud to him. But now as a toddler we read a ton and his attention span to sit and listen to a whole book without getting up and running away is very limited lol. I imagine he would be better at listening if we started younger.
