Wow, super video, so many memories. Thanks for putting all your films onto TH-cam. I live about an hour away from Southend Airport and used to visit there regularly as I had friends who flew there. I had no idea the 'Skymonster' still existed...and even better is here in the UK. I hope she doesn't get scrapped. If only a museum could afford to move her.
@@mrrolandlawrence She still sits in the airport at Bournemouth, I work at the museum there and see her every week. Would be nice if she could come across to the museum site, although I don’t think there would be room...
Bournemouth is my local airport, I live right under the flight path and around a mile or so away, I've been wanting to learn more about this aircraft. Thanks for this video!
They need to show this ultra rare video on Ice Pilots NWT if it’s still a thing. The UK heritage is even deeper than I thought, Electra and this Canadian hybrid. Fantastic ❤
Not sure where you saw a YS-11 in this video; there is a brief view of an Andover at 03:15 , but YS-11s have their own video . th-cam.com/video/hWDg9Ht7Ivg/w-d-xo.html
@@robinpinnock2678 As far as I know G-BOHY was a HS 748. Were any of the Andover marks basically straight 748s? Thanks for the clip; I think it's the first I've ever seen of any variation on the CL-44.
@@JDJLalor The Andover C1 referred to in the previous answer is parked between the CL-44 and a 1-11. 748s , including G-BOHY, have their own video here... th-cam.com/video/eIFMW69ytvA/w-d-xo.html 748's supplied to the RAF were Andover CC2.
Yes, indeed, thank you. The CL-44 was a beautiful plane, so much so that I am, as an American, envious that it wasn't one of ours, although I do love the Electra! If I'm not mistaken either Icelandic or Bahamas Air flew them, but I was just a tad too young to fly on them before I got into the travel business. How sad for such a great adaptation. Can't some aviation museum step up and claim her. Please don't show us scenes of her being chewed up for scrap. That's just heart breaking.
Stunning footage
You had great foresight to film this knowing that it would be super enjoyable in the future.
A good deal of luck was involved! I certainly had no idea anyone else would see them 25+ years in the future.

Returned from Japan (MisawaAB) Aug 65, to Anchorage to Travis on a Tigers CL 44. A fond memory, fine looking FA’s too
I hope they wont scrap her, she really is a one of a kind aircraft and if not put to use, belongs in a museum!
the video is from 1993! so alas i dont think any were preserved.

Just two words............ 'Thank You'
Good footage. Also scrapped Shorts Belfast operated by Heavylift.Remember seeing one off those on the apron in Dublin circa 1994.
Thank you for recording all this and putting it on youtube!
A pleasure to see this Aircraft on TH-cam. Thanks a lot.

Didn’t expect to see you here, is the aircraft still parked there? I didn’t really get any much info. Thanks.
@@eun5oo280 Wow, I didn't expect this either, and yes. It is still parked there, hasn't been started up in a few years now.
I was lucky enough to see this fly into LBA many years ago. An amazing aircraft.
Those Tynes are music to my ears. A real harken back to the Vickers Vanguard!
Excellent footage of this very rare aircraft. Also thanks for the additional info in the video. :)
Not to forget Transmeridian Air Cargo of course, when it was operated still as N447T
I worked for Transmeridian in the late 60s early 70s and flew in this monster the (guppy) one time i remember her grounded because of main spa cracks

Was that a YS-11 at 14:29? I spent some time working on those and their great Dart engines. Thanks for sharing.

Don't worry she's getting looked after

What was the high-wing @ 2:50?
It's one of the regular Shorts 330 that were common at the time. They have their own video on my channel.

Excellent video cl44 still st Bournemouth and can be seen on my channel
Is it just me or do the RR Tynes have a similar sound to the RR Darts?
It's the difference between a whispering giant and a screaming banshee!
RIP
And sadly, I now believe being scrapped last week 10-11 Feb 2021
