Korra had two and a half years of compassionate Katara, that's what she needed then to begin her journey of healing. Now she needs Toph brutal honesty and tough love. 'Maybe you want the metal inside you' is exactly what she needed to hear because she hasn't been facing her demons.
That doesn't mean Toph was fully aware of that or that she's perfect or blameless, consider it working out a convenience of timing because it was. Toph would prolly do the same as soon as Korra started trying to heal and it wouldnt have been healthy
I don't think Toph turned away from compassion, but the fact was Aang was a pretty gentle spirit. He needed a soft guiding hand and compliments. According to Lin, Korra's "tough as nails". I think Toph can sense that she's a lot more aggressive and stubborn, and so she opts for a more hardcore / tough approach when helping her.
Toph didn't become complementary towards Aang in "Bitter Work" until after he proved himself by standing up to the moose lion. Korra isn't helping herself so Toph isn't going to go out of her way for her.
I like how Toph just casually says that her daughters, two of the strongest metal benders in the world, never really picked up metal bending all that well.
I mean, she is the one who INVENTED metalbending, and probably the greatest earthbender in the history of the entire Avatarverse (let alone in the world). I really don't think we've seen anyone who can match her, though it would be nice if one of her future descendants managed to match or even surpass her (it's what she would want, for her family to keep pushing the limits).

Whether Wu is in power or Kuvira the EK is still going to be an authoritarian nation and here's why. Wu is a clown, so he would be appointed an advisor who would most likely take advantage of his stupidity and rule the country, similar to Kuei. Kuvira is smart, but she's authoritarian by nature but would industrialize the EK like never before. I'd rather choose to live under Wu's rule because at least then as long as you don't commit a crime you'll pretty much be left alone. Under kuvira's rule she uses slave labor, so I'm not with that.

I love how Kuvira's theme is like a train that's building momentum. In her speech, it starts out quiet and builds on itself as she reaches the end. There's a lot of cool little details in the music this season, like how Kuvira's theme contains a corrupted version of the Zaofu theme, and a bunch more stuff that are a spoiler so I won't mention. Edit: Also when Kuvira and Suyin are talking, it starts with the base Kuvira theme then when the camera cuts to Suyin, the corrupted Zaofu theme is played on top of it.
You know what, I will just say this.... Kuvira... has a point. About the monarchy and Wu specifically. Raiko was definitely going to use him as a puppet and manipulate him because homeboy clearly is not going to be a capable leader. Methods though? Obviously no. Also, nobody can convince me that Wu + Mako wouldn't be a perfect ship hahahaha, I love their dynamic :D
A common them with this show is that the villains all have valid points/ideals but they carry them to the extreme Imo Kuvira is the BEST example of this and that's a big part of why she's my fave villain Also team wuko ftw 😍

They can be liberated (rather than subjugated which admittedly is where Kuvira falls short though she believes it’s for the betterment of the nation). She could easily stabilize the Earth Kingdom and give power back to the central government with out imposing her ideology to the nation. But instead she would rather let's people suffer.
The people of the Earth Kingdom love Kuvira, so imagine if Tenzin and the other leaders take her out, there would be an Earth Kingdom uprising. You also have to remember Wu's great-aunt was a ruthless ruler, and his great grandfather allowed the Dai Li to terrorize the citizens so the people see the monarchy as bad.
And don't even get started on what would happen if Izumi decided to stop this new dictator; after all, Izumi's aunt managed to conquer the capital and her grandfather tried to incinerate the entire continent.
Bolin's statement about Kuvira and Korra being similar is actually kinda scary to think about when you realize Kuvira is what Korra WOULD be if the Avatar were capable of being corrupted by power.
Ya, that's a valid argument; especially after Harmonic Convergence. Yes, Korra defeated Vaatu during Harmonic Convergence, but not before Vaatu defeated Raava first. Korra only got Raava back because neither Light nor Dark can exist without the other. Raava herself said that even if one side were to win, the "loser" would only grow within the "winner" until the day their battle begins anew. Vaatu isn't really gone; he will grow inside Raava, and by extension, the future Avatars. Because of this crucial fact, I believe that the next Avatar Cycle will be just as susceptible to Vaatu's influence as to Raava's. We could very well see Avatars with mindsets like Kuvira's in future generations. Good luck sleeping with that thought in mind.
Can you IMAGINE if Aang had gone a bloodthirsy killing spree against the Fire Nation after the discovery of their genocide and on top of that, learned how to do BLOODBENDING LIKE AMON? Heads would roll and brains be splattered everywhere.

I really don think Kuvira and Korra are that similar. Now everytime o think about how Korra would ended up if she was evil, i think about Amon. Since he is the villain that not only is more similar to her but also his path mirrors Korra's path in book1
The two of them were always at opposite philosophical extremes; they even fought once back in Season 3. SPOILERS and both of them helped the Avatar deal with the other. I actually want to see them be imprisoned together for a bit (with restraints)just to see the verbal sparring between them.
Fun fact: where Mako and Prince Wu were eating/shopping, that was in Little Ba Sing Se which is a Republic City, it's supposed to be like real world places such as Chinatown, Korea town etc
We really didn’t know Kuvira before to know that she had this in her. Zuko is sitting next to his daughter, Fire Lord Izumi. One of the bad things rewatching this season is seeing Wu being super annoying.
I loved that Kuvira crushed the Kyoshi Medal of Honor, because Kuvira is so similar to Chin the Conqueror, the person Kyoshi fought against. Like Kuvira, Chin also went on a campaign to unite the Earth Kingdom in a state of disarray, opposing the unpopular monarchy, and gaining popularity among the people. History repeats itself, and once again the debate props up, what should the Avatar's role be in such a complicated situation.
unlike zuko and katara who have changed a lot, I like how toph is the still the exact same even after all these years. And the voice actress for old toph does a great job, it's just how you would imagine toph as an old lady.

Though granted, she’s in her late 80s in Season 1, which is older than most of the old masters in the previous show. So she was probably still the badass we know back in her 60s-early 70s.

From someone that has been in and out of mental health institutions, people that have Toph’s mentality are often better at helping people with mental illness that have been suffering for a while and don’t know what to do anymore. The tough “enough is enough” mentality is often ignored for being too aggressive but sometimes someone doesn’t like being cared for and babied for extended periods of time
I mean Kyoshi is a staunch monarchist and Kuvira sees herself as relaxing the need for the Avatar giving it was her who sorted out the Earth kingdom mess.
Many people will gladly give up a portion of freedom in exchange for security. After all, isn't that what society is? A social exchange? With Kuvira, she offers complete safety and security in exchange for complete and absolute submission to her rule, as she believes that she is the most capable (or perhaps the _only_ one capable) of upholding that peaceful society.

Your comment with Kuvira and Amon being the only antagonists seen as heroes and with significant support is actually completely untrue because every single main antagonist from every book had significant support wether out in the open (The Red lotus members are the only ones that were hidden for obvious reasons). Amon had the equalists, Unalaq had the entire north army, Zaheer with the entire Red Lotus, and obviously now Kuvira with her Empire. It was even the same with Ozai who had the whole fire nation backing him and seeing him as the hero. It's a common and consistent trope in this world

In regards to Korra's chakra being blocked: it is believed her earth chakra is blocked as it has to do with survival. There's also a hint when she's fighting her alter ego in the swamp in episode 2 where she dodges every element except earth in a scene. Plus this whole season has to do with the earth kingdom.

Ranking all of your prospective shows by how much Montana will Thirst 5- The Clone Wars: the caricature type characters designs kinda prevent anyone from being conventionally attractive, but Anakin kinda has an E-Boy thing going 4- She Ra: The simple art style makes it hard for anyone to be very sexualized, but that being said there sure are some cuties 3- Teen Titans: Ravens legs defined an entire generation. Indeed. I've always viewed Kuvira as the most skilled metalbender, at least in terms of combat. Unlike _any_ of the Beifongs, Kuvira has trained her entire life to master metalbending in the ways of the warrior, and invented her own effective style of metalbending now used by the soldiers of her empire. One v one, Kuvira can indeed take on pretty much anyone in the Avatar universe. She can definitely beat old-Toph, and has a good shot at beating prime-Toph as well, it could go either way. Furthermore, since no Avatar before Korra can metalbend in the slightest, they may be at a disadvantage against Kuvira's signature metalbending technique, which focuses on binding one's eyes, limbs, and pretty much anything in a substance that is not easily broken or melted by any Avatar, and is a method of full-body-binding that, unlike bloodbending, cannot be simply overridden by the activation of the Avatar State like we saw with Aang and Yakone. If this was a more adult show, Kuvira would likely be impaling people left right and centre with shards of metal that she launches from her body.

I love how Kuvira's theme is like a train that's building momentum. In her speech, it starts out quiet and builds on itself as she reaches the end. There's a lot of cool little details in the music this season, like how Kuvira's theme contains a corrupted version of the Zaofu theme, and a bunch more stuff that are a spoiler so I won't mention.
Edit: Also when Kuvira and Suyin are talking, it starts with the base Kuvira theme then when the camera cuts to Suyin, the corrupted Zaofu theme is played on top of it.

Indeed. The world was descending into chaos while Korra was gone. In order to fix it, Kuvira had to make some tough decisions. No one else was able or willing to do so, so Kuvira alone took it upon herself to be the one to "fix" the world, which is what Kuvira meant when she said: *_"I stepped UP."_*

Su claims she refused because she didn’t want to impose her ideology on the rest of the Earth Kingdom but rescuing Ba Sing se and the other provinces doesn’t need that. They can be liberated (rather than subjugated which admittedly is where Kuvira falls short though she believes it’s for the betterment of the nation). I honestly think Su is lying to herself and others, simply wanting to hide away in her city and pretending like she doesn’t owe anyone anything.
@@soulstealer5625 ohh please, Su clearly didn't help because she knew that if the Earth Kingdom was fully stabilized she would lose the illegal autonomy of Zaofu that was a prodact of the mismanaged bureaucracy of the central government. She preferred to be her own Queen on her shine city and let all other Earth kingdom citizens to suffer. The ideology thing was bullshit. She could easily stabilize the Earth Kingdom and give power back to the central government with out imposing her ideology to the nation. But instead she would rather let's people suffer.
The people of the Earth Kingdom love Kuvira, so imagine if Tenzin and the other leaders take her out, there would be an Earth Kingdom uprising. You also have to remember Wu's great-aunt was a ruthless ruler, and his great grandfather allowed the Dai Li to terrorize the citizens so the people see the monarchy as bad.
And don't even get started on what would happen if Izumi decided to stop this new dictator; after all, Izumi's aunt managed to conquer the capital and her grandfather tried to incinerate the entire continent.

Bolin's statement about Kuvira and Korra being similar is actually kinda scary to think about when you realize Kuvira is what Korra WOULD be if the Avatar were capable of being corrupted by power.
Ya, that's a valid argument; especially after Harmonic Convergence.
Yes, Korra defeated Vaatu during Harmonic Convergence, but not before Vaatu defeated Raava first.
Korra only got Raava back because neither Light nor Dark can exist without the other.
Raava herself said that even if one side were to win, the "loser" would only grow within the "winner" until the day their battle begins anew.
Vaatu isn't really gone; he will grow inside Raava, and by extension, the future Avatars.
Because of this crucial fact, I believe that the next Avatar Cycle will be just as susceptible to Vaatu's influence as to Raava's.
We could very well see Avatars with mindsets like Kuvira's in future generations.
Good luck sleeping with that thought in mind.

On the other hand, that might actually make more Avatars more balanced between order and chaos. Too much order can also corrupt, as this season proves.
I actually want to see an evil Avatar at some point to explore this idea further-an Avatar way too focused on order.
I really don think Kuvira and Korra are that similar.
Now everytime o think about how Korra would ended up if she was evil, i think about Amon. Since he is the villain that not only is more similar to her but also his path mirrors Korra's path in book1

We really didn’t know Kuvira before to know that she had this in her. Zuko is sitting next to his daughter, Fire Lord Izumi. One of the bad things rewatching this season is seeing Wu being super annoying.

I loved that Kuvira crushed the Kyoshi Medal of Honor, because Kuvira is so similar to Chin the Conqueror, the person Kyoshi fought against. Like Kuvira, Chin also went on a campaign to unite the Earth Kingdom in a state of disarray, opposing the unpopular monarchy, and gaining popularity among the people. History repeats itself, and once again the debate props up, what should the Avatar's role be in such a complicated situation.
The Earth Kingdom is to be reorganized into the first Earth Empire. For a safer and securer...society (I've been waiting so long to say that)

One aspect where she could have changed (for the worse) is combat, as we never see her fight this time. Though granted, she’s in her late 80s in Season 1, which is older than most of the old masters in the previous show. So she was probably still the badass we know back in her 60s-early 70s.

From someone that has been in and out of mental health institutions, people that have Toph’s mentality are often better at helping people with mental illness that have been suffering for a while and don’t know what to do anymore. The tough “enough is enough” mentality is often ignored for being too aggressive but sometimes someone doesn’t like being cared for and babied for extended periods of time

With Kuvira, she offers complete safety and security in exchange for complete and absolute submission to her rule, as she believes that she is the most capable (or perhaps the _only_ one capable) of upholding that peaceful society.

Your comment with Kuvira and Amon being the only antagonists seen as heroes and with significant support is actually completely untrue because every single main antagonist from every book had significant support wether out in the open (The Red lotus members are the only ones that were hidden for obvious reasons). Amon had the equalists, Unalaq had the entire north army, Zaheer with the entire Red Lotus, and obviously now Kuvira with her Empire. It was even the same with Ozai who had the whole fire nation backing him and seeing him as the hero. It's a common and consistent trope in this world

In regards to Korra's chakra being blocked: it is believed her earth chakra is blocked as it has to do with survival. There's also a hint when she's fighting her alter ego in the swamp in episode 2 where she dodges every element except earth in a scene. Plus this whole season has to do with the earth kingdom.

and the final point, she is actually a really elite metal bender, in a one v one fight she could give 99% of people in this universe a good fight i think
Indeed. I've always viewed Kuvira as the most skilled metalbender, at least in terms of combat. Unlike _any_ of the Beifongs, Kuvira has trained her entire life to master metalbending in the ways of the warrior, and invented her own effective style of metalbending now used by the soldiers of her empire.
One v one, Kuvira can indeed take on pretty much anyone in the Avatar universe. She can definitely beat old-Toph, and has a good shot at beating prime-Toph as well, it could go either way. Furthermore, since no Avatar before Korra can metalbend in the slightest, they may be at a disadvantage against Kuvira's signature metalbending technique, which focuses on binding one's eyes, limbs, and pretty much anything in a substance that is not easily broken or melted by any Avatar, and is a method of full-body-binding that, unlike bloodbending, cannot be simply overridden by the activation of the Avatar State like we saw with Aang and Yakone.
If this was a more adult show, Kuvira would likely be impaling people left right and centre with shards of metal that she launches from her body.

Zaheer was an Airbender, and wanted freedom.💨
Kuvira, like Long Feng, is an Earthbender, and she wants stability.🗻
Furthermore, both waterbending villains wanted change. Water is the element of change. SO you're even more on-point than you think.
