  • I bought $200 worth of tools from Temu... was it worth it? I recently had a Patreon member ask about the quality of Temu tools... I honestly had no clue. So I decided to buy up a bunch of tools and give them a try and review.

    I think it was Stumpy Nubs that had a video on a "real" version of the chainsaw disc (17:14), and just how phenomenally dangerous they are on so many levels. I've been using chainsaws over half my life, along with grinders and other cutting tools, and there's just no way in hell I'd even consider using one of those. I like my fingers too much.

    • @BillO964
      @BillO964 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I use my chainsaw disc often. It works fine. Just have to use two hands and pay attention.

    • @bobbyc2126
      @bobbyc2126 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@BillO964 @JCWren I have to second Bill, I have used one for years and I still have all my fingers and never been injured. If your gonna let your mind wander you probably should not be doing anyform of woodworking or construction.

    • @JohnSmith-ld1pw
      @JohnSmith-ld1pw 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Amen brother. Yes it was Stumpy Nubs. When a woodworker with that much experience almost loses a couple of digits with just a quick slip of a tool then that tool is not right for me. Respect the badger.

    • @JI-ev9pp
      @JI-ev9pp 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Stumpy went into the details of his injury with it and how it happened. From what I remembered of the video, he went to move it forward and bumped his work and it caught on him. Almost ended living up to his namesake.

    • @JI-ev9pp
      @JI-ev9pp 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I believe he was paying attention etc. the grinder touched his work piece and it caught on him unexpectedly.

    When I installed windows for Anderson I bought packs of oscillating blades on Amazon, precovid for about 20 cents a piece. They were great for cutting drywall and trimming our exterior moulding against stucco and brick. They definitely saved me a fortune!
    But then I bought a fooseball table from china and the instructions said “Take people before begin to do thing” and that was it. The product was made to the same quality as the instructions

    Ha! The "wood trimmer machine" aka router is the exact same thing I got at Harbor Freight, different color and yep, it's junk too! Got it on sale and am glad I didn't pay full price, but either way, I try to do projects with it and NOW I see why they don't come out right. Thanks for that! I got a marking wheel which is working fine. Also got neodymium magnets which appear sound. I made a point of not ordering anything with moving parts. The yellow adjustable push block that is so popular is about $47 on Temu. I didn’t order it solely because I don’t need another tool that needs adjustment each time.

    We appreciate ya, Matt. Can you imagine how many thousands you just saved us 😂 that wood carving tool that you demoed. Yes, they can be very dangerous. I bought something here several months ago off line that has hundreds of diamond type teeth for carving. It definitely worked like no other. Started making a bowl for my sister in-law that she asked me to make for her. 4-5 minutes into it, I got to lax using it. It kicked back on me and removed a huge chunk of meat out of my left inner forearm and off to the emergency room for almost 7 hours. Moral to my story is... don't try these tools out without a lil supervision 😂😂😂
    Love your videos and informative projects, they've helped broaden ideas for things I never thought that I was capable of doing. Plus... it keeps me in the shop and out of my wife's hair 😉
    Thank you sir!!!

      You got lax using a dangerous tool. That is like the dead crabber saying I got lax on deck cause the seas were calm for a minute. I have used the chainsaw and the diamonds for several years "knock on wood I never get lax when I use them" and never had an issue. Bottom line you should never get lax when operating any tool no matter how safe you think it is.

    I have not or will not shop there especially after I saw an artist wearing her designed shirt. She said she was out and about and saw a man with a shirt on with her pattern she designed. She asked where he got it because she had not her pattern to the public yet I believe. Maybe through some form of social media. He said he bought it from TAMU. She was outraged. Sure enough you Canberra blankets, shirts all kinds of stuff with her pattern on it. That’s stealing art! As an artist it infuriates me. If you take someone’s idea ask them first and give them credit! Thanks for showing what you really get!

    I’ve been wondering about the tools. Based on some items I’ve purchased like the multiblade light bulb and a sprayer attachment for my sink - neither fit and really cheaply made. However, I have purchased some sewing supplies, crafting supplies and things for my air fryer and those have all been great. Overall, Temu is a hit or Miss site. You really have to read the whole description and with some items, it’s certainly worth it, others, it’s not. Thanks for this video. Was helpful.

    I grabbed a similar hole saw set from Harbor Freight I believe. The only thing I used those for was cutting plastic and then reusing a few PVC pipe fittings (i.e. find the closest one that fits, hit the hole saw with a touch and then set it inside the fitting for 3-4 mins until its soft enough to rip out). Worked well for that...

    That carving disc is the same one I bought at HD and Lowes or at least the same package and they were $20-plus each. I used to make drill bits and a flat mate I had at the time was into reconditioning furniture, he bought the cheapest drills he could find. I asked him how they went and he said they go good, I looked at them and could see so many terrible defects on them, not even having relief on the flute, having off center points, having chisel points at ridiculous angles, having the back of the point higher than the cutting edge. I told him I’d grab some of his commonly used sizes the next day. He used them and said “holy heck, what was I using?! These bits take no effort and keep going”. To this day I can tell if a brand is worth buying by looking at it. Even the cheap ones can be good but they’re made of far less dense steel and dull far quicker. We used Indian steel and brought out a separately branded line using Chinese steel. The Chinese steel weighed about 75% of the Indian, lasted about 75% less holes. You get what you pay for.

    For the tiny drill bits, use a dremel instead of a normal drill (ideally a dremel press to reduce snapping likelihood). Thanks for the great overview, I've deliberately never even considered Temu just because of the "junk appearance" even in their ads, this just affirms that further, something like the drill bits or jigsaw blades maybe seem like a "can't lose for the price" proposition (heck, they probably all come off the same assembly line, with just low-tolerances (or cheaper input materials) going out the chinesieum Temu/Alibaba doors, the "graded materials/final tolerance/prep attention to detail" products going out the "name brands" door, but definitely anything that is comprised of more than a single part, is clearly junk, and the more parts, the more the junk multiplies in junkitude.
    I did wonder if the router plate could be "belt sanded" into flatness/squareness just for the sake of "I've bought it, can anything be salvaged for review" purposes, but then again, like the grinder chainsaw, a router bit at 20k rpm flying out of a crap router, probably as dangerous if not more so.

      The only things worth getting are simple things you cant really f-up. We got travel ponchos, 5 pack of XLs for $3. Travel food and water bowls for dogs, 3 colapsables in 3 colors for $6. 50 pack of random d-clips for securing things to bags, $8. Sticker sets for thermos, 50 for like $2. Large corner shower wall organizer metal set of 2, $16.

    I have bought and used a few tools from Temu, screwdriver bits, tool bags, some drill bits, bit holders and some kitchen gadgets. The only thing I've had a problem with was one of the drill bits broke on the first try, other than that no issues. Like anything though you get what you pay for. Just remember whether you buy from Temu, Amazon, Walmart, or Target 99% of what you buy comes from China and if you order off your phone they will get your information.

    Ive done a couple of orders on temu, and yes, it is mixed results. However, I ordered T-track, stops, set up blocks, and was really impressed with the quality of these, and a few other items for the money. I noticed at the beginning of the video, you had a track bar or similar pocking out the bag, but didn't review it. I only ask as I was considering ordering a track bar, and mitre guage for the table saw .

    I’ve had mixed results from Temu. Many things are smaller than you’d expect. A flexible shaft for an impact driver broke immediately. A tap and die set didn’t have some most common bolt thread gages. The stainless steel and red plastic T-square was total crap. The oscillating tool blades were decent. I bought some router bits that I haven’t tried yet.

    I've been ordering from Temu, off and on for about a year now, but have stayed away from woodworking tools and after seeing this will continue to do so. Out of approximately 10 orders costing a few hundred dollars, of various things per order, from kitchen scissors to eye hook 100 pound magnets, I've only had one disappointing item and that was a hairband of all things. Lol I will say the kitchen scissors I paid a little over a dollar for rivals the 20 something dollar one I also have. As a crafter and woodworker, there are a lot of options that are wicked cheap. Most of my orders I'd prepare myself for them to be very sub-par, but for just under or just over $1.00, I figured it would be worth a try. And as I said I only had one off the wall hair item that wasn't worth a crap. My only issue is that instructions aren't really instructional. Need cool looking tire stem caps, a phone case, neodymium magnets, hair clips, kitchen scissors or other such under $5.00 items, it's definitely worth a try though.

    Lol! Thanks Matt, that was hilarious and doing it with (almost) a straight face had to be challenging. I never considered buying tools from temu, or anything else for that matter. I learned some hard lessons just from buying harbor freight trash. Their stuff is just as expensive as brand name now and a huge waste of money. It wasn't always that way though. A long time ago I bought a set of hole saws and a reciprocating saw from HF, they are still functioning! I bought a router/table combo last spring and couldn't even make close to accurate cuts, then it broke lol. I found a Rockwell on clearance at Lowe's for less than I paid at HB.

      @@MatthewPeechWoodworking Funny My HF planer has outlasted 2 of my friends dewalts and I have pushed more wood through than they both did. An then we dont want to talk about how SNAPON shit was breaking when working on semis and HF got the job done. Sometimes your just buying a name that is made in the same factory. Ah what do I know I dont have friends that visit China monthly and watch Yetis (supposedly made in America) roll off the factory line there or Snapon or lots of other supposedly made in America lies. Reality is most stuff is made in China today and your lucky if its assemled in America you know like cars and trucks.

    I have four of those routers in single purpose custom jigs I built. They have helped make product that has made us £35,000+ so no complaints from me!
    To be fair I had to rewire then to attach the earth ... and switch the live rather than the neutral.......and heavily modify the base .......and change the collet. But apart from that!

    I bought one of the chainsaw carving blades years ago, but it was a name brand from Woodcraft. Worked well for shaping 4x4s into, and adding character to a trestle base for a cribbage coffee table, but it was always somewhat sketchy to work with.
    I wouldn't trust anything spinning at 10k+ rpm in that router.

I buy stuff like drill bits, glue bottles, silicone glue set, (exactly same as rockler for a quarter of the price) acid shop brushes, I can’t even think of all the stuff I’ve ordered.
