You always hear the thumb should be snug.. but this is the first video I've seen that shows just how snug that thumb can be while still being confident the ball will release properly

Thank you so much. Nobody has explained grip in this much detail.. I recently went with a much tighter thumb and I was still not sure if it should be even tighter. Your video explains it perfectly. I will test with more tape as I still fill I have to grip to hard at the bottom of my swing. It's amazing the difference in revs just by not bending my thumb to hold on to the ball.

Great video!! Most detailed one I've seen so far and such a good explanation of how it should feel.

After a few years of bowling and just mostly "matching" my 1st or 2nd drilled ball I finally started tinkering w my pitches last year. Didn't do much to the fingers in the end but my thumb had been 7/16" away for few years so w 1 ball I had the pitch changed an 1/8" forward a time, practice few games, went another 1/8" forward etc and in the end I'm at 0 pitch across my whole arsenal and I have a "IT"s that are 0 and "IT"s that fit the 0 hole but are drilled an 1/8" forward and I use em both. Barely think bout my thumb grip anymore and my release has become waaaay more consistent. If it feels like your holding it, your probably right.

Thanks Andrew. I get my finger grips changed once per season, about after 350-400 games. I may change them more often if they start to get deformed. I recently changed to the Vise IT thumbs, which has been pretty awesome. I look forward to this coming season.

A friend recently convinced me to tighten my thumb hole similar to how Andrew does his. Once I did, I started to trust my grip and stopped muscling the ball. That allowed me to relax my forearm, and straighten my elbow, and my average speed went from 11 to 14 mph. Look at Andrew's release at 6:42 because he is relaxing his forearm he can extend his arm and take advantage of that length to generate easy power.

There's a fit for every hand.
My thumb right now is 1"reverse 5/8" left and fingers are 0 forward. I don't squeeze and rekease the ball fairly consistent.
I've tried lots of different fits. This one works for me.

This is a very timely video for me. Lately I've been having pain in my bowling fingers if I squeeze something with them. I wonder if I need some reverse pitch in my fingers. Mine aren't very flexible either.

My thumb holes are always too big , i have a short wide thumb and it swells, im always afraid of hanging up in it. Should i get a smaller insert ? right now i can put 5-6 pcs of tape in it.

When I get my dad's old bowling balls I like the shorter spans . But I have recently sent to sarge Easter grip because of my ring finger and now I can hit the ball as much as I want. And I am left handed.

  • @StephRenee812

Whatever happened to the vise interchangeable finger system? Where you could have different pitches just by rotationnif the grips and it says with those and the interchangeable thumbs you could change your spans in your ball. I guess that woukd be easier for people with snaller thumbs to be able to move hole back or foreard in the slugs.

Is wanting the thumb to stick why people blow hot air into the thumb hole?

The text animations are incredibly distracting. Please consider just using static text if you must include subtitles.

My release sucks worse than I thought then, or I need more reverse pitch, because when it’s that tight, I can’t get out of the ball.

LOL I literally have to do this today because everything changed... everything was going through my fingers and thumb, which apparently isn't good...

What is your opinion on using no grips with a finger tip drilling? I've been no grips since my second year of bowling. I've been bowling like 10 years now. My wife has been bowling 3 years and she started out with no grips also. What do you think about starting off bowling with no grips?

I have a callus on the right side of my thumb. I already have 3/16 of left pitch and it still rubs. I tried going 1/4 left and I started hanging up in the ball. Any ideas how to fix the rubbing issue? I've tried different amounts of reverse and forward pitch and that hasn't helped.

The only way for me to get the fit of my thumb perfect is with tape. Tape is a must-have for me due to this.

Is the ball supposed to sit in the palm of your hand or is there a gap there
