The duality of gamers. "Low sales = bad game but high sales = doesn't mean it's good. Nuance only exist if I like the game."

      Fair point.

Honestly, the game didn't seem too special to me. If I spend $60 on a game it had better stand out to me! And unfortunately it didn't.
Game prices are honestly going to kill the industry eventually. They're getting worse every year. It's another $10 on a yearly basis.

I mean... if game prices went up with the price of everything else (especially considering the price of development for higher fidelity and scaled games) they should be like $150 each. lol I don't WANT prices to go up but it's also kind of a miracle they've stayed so low.

Valid point. But I'd only spend that much for a game that really wows me. I can see a lot of games making far less sales because people simply can't afford it in the long run.
Also games that have really negative openings will put people off paying $60 or $70 on other new game too.
I'll happily pay that for the best of the best, but for a game like veilguard I think it's very greedy.

It's frustrating to try and even comment on Veilguard without having people block you or call you a bigot. The game was already on shaky ground, they needed more consequential choices, more "big" missions, more enemy variety, etc. So it's not one thing, but if you look at the thumbnail for every Veilguard hate video, there's one character who shows up again and again. Taash was written and acted so poorly, that from the moment you meet them you want them out of the party. THEY don't even want to be in the party. They said so. That's before you get into the gender stuff. I play games with queer stories. I finished Caravan Sandwich twice, and every character in that game is queer. Like literally everyone. It's not the subject, it's the execution. Cringe is inexcusable. They're just an asshole, and their personal mission does very little to redeem them. I hope that if Bioware survives, they've been burned badly enough that Gamble has the courage to say "this story sucks" when he needs to, and send writers away to fix their shitty dialog and the same for the voice director (what the fuck, Neve, did you skip coffee before recording your lines?)

For what it's worth Taash annoyed me (nothing to do with her gender revelations, that stuff doesn't bother me) and I didn't do much of her loyalty questline so I never really experienced the stuff that some people were screeching over. At the end of the day I just wish they would've handled the delivery better (like Shadowheart's trans friend in BG3 being handled really respectfully and sweetly) and that lessons are learned from the whole situation.

I think you're pretty spot on. It's why I come to you for some level headed Bioware takes. For me, I found DA2 to be unplayable, and DA:I outside of Blackwall lost me completely with its companions, for whom I felt nothing but contempt, especially Solas who for some reason was now the most important character in all of Dragon Age. Having Solas return for Veilguard was instantly a deal breaker for me,. Another thing that was becoming increasingly transparent was that, with each new installment we went further north in Thedas, so that Bioware could avoid having to show how our past actions shaped previous locations, which leads to the inevitable nuking of the entire continent as of Veilguard so that Bioware won't have to take past choices in consideration. Couple that with just the 3 choices from Tresspasser only mattering, the 10 years between games and, as you mention, the departure from Origins that this game was, Veilguard had all the signs of a failure. And it was shown, I think, in the first teaser trailer we got in the summer, and the gameplay reveal a few days later, with both videos getting downvoted.
While they can just go on in the direction they had originally set for ME 4/5/Next/Whatever, I do think that starting a new Mass Effect with the hook being "let's link the Trilogy with Andromeda" is just not a strong enough hook to return, just like you said, and a five minute Liara cameo, or a role similar to Varric in Veilguard is just not gonna be enough to sell the game. Not only that, but I think at this point even bringing Shepard and co. back might not be enough to sell it. I think this game will have to do something amazing, and with a very scaled down vision, to ensure financial success of some kind to make it viable and I don't know how they can do that anymore. Public sentiment just doesn't seem to be pro-Bioware to me.

I think perhaps Dragon Age could be joining Dead Space, not sure about Mass Effect though. No one credible has said they've heard Bioware Edmonton is going away. Also I will say that the character the right has zeroed in on, Taash, is probably one of the better Dragon Age companions. They're a cringey and annoying young person whose mom packs their backpack before they join you, I enjoyed that. Also I found her useful in combat.
I will say it does limit past choices, however those past choices were becoming a bit of an albatross after ten years since the last entry, and the keep doesn't even work 100 percent right anymore.

It's nice to have someone mentally sane talk about this topic. If this situation allows to have playable Shepard, nostalgia and of course lots of new features it will be a success and I will be happy

I started the game. Enjoyed the first 10 hours but started to think, oh deae this is a slow burn. Next thing I know about 10 hours later I still dont have all the party members and I've dropped the game and Im playing sonething else more engaging 😂

I can appreciate that. I will say that I think Veilguard has one of BioWare's best "final acts" and if you can gut out the middle of the game the payoff was worth it for me. The middle was a struggle though. I also found the romance (I went with Neve) to be sweet but overall fairly unfulfilling.

@baundiesel Thanks for the heads up. I will definitely push through but right now with the slew of stellar RGP's ready to release. KCD2, avowed and more It could be some time

I never cared about the "political" controversy surrounding this game. After hitting the credits I do think the last 4 or 5 hours were really really good. Not perfect just good. For me personally though those hours didn't make up for the rest of the game. I can't overstate how much I appreciated a release that wasn't bogged down by bugs and glitches. On my PC everything ran incredibly smooth, but then again to be honest The Veilguard has no really deep mechanics that tend to create the majority of bugs in many other RPGs. That is my biggest issue with this game. The Veilguard takes everything that made Dragon Age Dragon Age over the years and removes all of it, and adding nothing of note. It's quite literally Mass Effect 1. The Veilguard is a dragon age game that has been reduced to the most basic form of it's genre. To me this is like releasing the original Super Mario brothers as a new release after Mario Odyssey has already been out for ten years. The Veilguard is that in a nutshell. That said I could understand why someone who has never played Dragon Age would maybe like this game, even if they have no idea what the lore is, and I think that is mainly why Dragon Age fans like myself are upset. A lot of us feel like we have been misled and I think that is a completely legit reason to be mad. Taash being non-binary had no effect on me negatively or positively, but that dinner table scene was brutal to get through. I can't speak for the non-binary community but I don't think that scene helped their cause in any way what-so-ever.

Yes, just bring the commander back and stick with what works.
