This blu-ray picture was upscaled so it's not going to look sharp and crisp like some other anime blu rays of the same era. Looked like VHS quality to me, but it still looks better than the DVD.
I am now investing to get this set as well as the DVD set, as for some reason it’s off production due to either the pandemic or out of print to find and to be on the hunt for.
This is only the first portion of the first season aka Indigo League, and episodes 53+ (not counting Beauty and the Beach which was banned for a while then aired twice dubbed here during Orange Islands initial run with not being included in home releases and the holiday ep with Jynx that they retroactively banned from circulation a while back and the two eps which were banned from airing outside of Japan i.e. The Legend of Dratini and most infamously Electro Soldier Porygon due to the seizure incident) have not been released on BD following this set. The rest are as of now relegated to being on DVD only. I still have the three box set release which came out over a decade ago and the single set of Orange Islands, but still haven't yet picked up all of the Johto sets to round out the OG series run. Also note that these are not true HD mastered versions of the episodes, just upscales of the standard definition digibeta tapes they've had for 20+ years.
I wish you had been doing the review as I found this video really uninformative. Who cares about the packaging? Collectors want to understand what episodes they get and what is missing.
@A Haydar Indeed, and the thing is that this set is basically using the 52 episode season format from when 4Kids had the rights to the series and how it aired on television on KidsWB for most of it's run under them. A lot of long time fans much prefer to categorize the seasons by what opening it is that the episodes have. For instance 1-80 is Pokemon Theme, 81-118 is Pokemon World, 119-159 is Pokemon Johto and so on. This is also the only release of any of the classic era episodes on Blu-ray, so for episodes 53 and onward you have to get the DVD's either the Vol. 3 box set of the old releases or the (sort of) complete collection re release from a few years ago.
Not a big Pokémon fan but it is a nice set. If I want to get any Pokémon episode on home media, I prefer just having the episodes and not the entire box set.
This set is really cool my only problem with it is that it’s only two 3rds of season 1 and not all 78 episodes like the complete collection has. Oh wait the complete collection is missing one episode that’s holiday hi-jynx but I guess it’s an even trade off because all episodes but 1 on dvd vs two 3rds on Blu ray. Then again that’s all just my opinion.
I kinda wish we got season 2 threw 5 on blu-ray
Pokemon Used to be on Boomerang and now it's on Netflix
This isn't the complete season btw. Indigo League is supposed to end with the episode Pallet Party Panic.

Perhaps the best one of all the pokemon series

Sucks how the Blu-ray set has only 52 of the 82 episodes
Why only 52 not 78?

The season has 82 episodes.
Does that count the episodes that haven’t been released in the US
@@GumRobber yes.
@@GumRobber what, what was the 4th episode? I know beauty and the beach, legend of dratini, and the seizure episodes but what was the 4th one?
Don’t know but I know that there were several Pikachu shorts that haven’t been released in the US
I went with the complete collection of season 1 on dvd myself
