    • @Syncopator
      @Syncopator 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      johnmburt1960 She had a serious opportunity to actually do something for campaign finance reform, to take a stand where it really counted, but she punted. She behaved like she was reined-in by the DNC. Her support could have made a significant difference in MA, as well as elsewhere, but she dropped the ball.

    • @Syncopator
      @Syncopator 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      johnmburt1960 No, she wimped out on supporting either Bernie Sanders OR Hillary Clinton. She clammed up instead of get behind either one-- the best explanation for it is, she preferred Bernie but was afraid to cross Hillary & the DNC. And if she didn't like Bernie, why dance around it? She went so far as to say she was "rooting" for him, but she didn't offer the support that could have made a big difference in MA.

      Some employers give what's called Comp pay, aka days with pay and being sick is even separate and called sick days, which means annually, so many days off with pay is awarded. Most union jobs at factories when you don't work your 8 hours scheduled that day you aren't paid for that day. Even if good wages are being paid, as some factories do pay well, paper mills, etc. And the comp days are reserved for the Professional or technical fields, never minimum wage workers, who often can even be robbed of wages. So, Congressional pay comes with tons of perks, not just comp, sick pay, vacation, etc
      Learn more about it online, it'll disgust you, I can tell.
      First time lawmaker for Feds is about $175,000/year(last I heard, but was years ago though)I do recall average taxpayer filings was around $50,000, and I thought wow, they make minimum 3 times the average workers.

      I didn't offer any refutation because I consider Hillary to be bought and paid for. Like I said, I'm for neither party. ^ ^ Bernie isn't as easy, but his support for the Military / Industrial Complex is a matter of record. Also notice which candidate has the least corporate support...why, wouldja lookit THAT!! It's Rand Paul! Who'd've THOUGHT...?

      +Sydette Watlington You know POTUS and/or CIC are nice titles that don't wield nearly the power, authority or influence that they suggest. Warren staying put on the Senate Banking Committee allows her to gracefully terrorize the weak willed investigators that make up the SEC and literally stand on Lloyd Blankfein's throat until his eyeballs bulge out. It's pretty damn lonely in the Oval office...especially when the President realizes that he/she has 535 new proctologists (Congress) who have oversight and investigative power over the Executive branch. Which in effect means that they can explore any orifice the President has, ANY damn time they feel like it.

    Great speech because it is truth. Impassioned because it matters. I only wish that Sen. Warren would embrace Sen. Sanders and run with him as our V.P. nominee. It's certainly clear that establishment, DNC, politics will change nothing in Govt., among the electorate, nor anywhere. In a functional Democracy the status quo might be acceptable and certainly the lesser of two evils. But, via Sen. Warren's own words - we're not a functional Democracy. Tacit affirmation of SoS Clinton defies her caring.

I believe that her charisma could give Sanders a much needed boost during the primaries and (hopefully) General Election. However, after the new President is sworn in we are all too aware of what happens to the VP. She or he ends up judging cow-pie throwing contests in Pigsknuckle, Nebraska and reading children's books to preschoolers for photo ops. Plus, there is very little day to day work with or near the President because if something tragic should befall POTUS nobody - especially the Secret Service - wants the next President anywhere near the vicinity.
      How many times do Americans wonder what Joe Biden might be doing with his day - or even remember that he is the VP? Senator Warren is a very effective, talented, high profile person in Washington. Wall St. bank CEOs both fear and despise her. Consumer protection and battling a rigged system as a voice for the common person is her passion. She is also incredibly effective as a leader on the Senate Banking Committee. She's right where she wants to be and she is a power player for Main St. in Washington....and you're right...she is an American hero.

      +Southern Girl Both the Senate and the House already have the Constitutional power to punish or expel members from their respective houses. The Congressional Research Service produces a guide entitled: Recall of Legislators and Removal of Members of congress from Office. Under Article I, Section 5, Clause 2, A Member of Congress may be removed from office before the normal expiration of his or her Constitutional term by an "expulsion" from the Senate (if a Senator) or from the House of Representatives (if a Representative) upon a formal vote on a resolution agreed to by two thirds of the Members of the respective body present and voting. While there are no specific grounds for an expulsion expressed in the Constitution, expulsion actions in both the House and the Senate have generally concerned cases of perceived disloyalty to the United States, or the conviction of a criminal statutory offense which involved abuse of one's official position.
      So, a Senator (or a Representative) can be disciplined or expelled from office under some fairly nondescript but serious circumstances. It could be argued that stonewalling the President could be considered "disloyalty to the United States" but the Republicans have a 10 seat margin of control in the Senate (54 to 44, with 2 "other"). Obviously there is no way the Democrats can get a 2/3rds majority on "discipline or expulsion" when they're starting 10-12 votes in the hole). Man, as much as this ticks me off, I can't Imagine how angry and handcuffed Senator Warren feels.

    She is smart enough to look at the current field and know that she very likely would become president if she had chosen to run. It's a little remarkable that she made the conscious decision not to.

    • @davidcole478
      @davidcole478 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +1tishhead Please take a look at my comment/reply above. Why take a job that has less power and more exposure; when you already have a job that has a lot of authority and REAL power.....just sayin'.

    • @1tishhead
      @1tishhead 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +David Cole well i wasn't passing judgment on her decision not to run. it's completely understandable to me why someone would make that choice. but i DO think it's remarkable that someone who likely could have the job would choose not to. not good or bad or right or wrong, just remarkable. most people who run for congress would have a hard time turning down a clear path to the white house.
      as for the power of the job, i disagree. despite the nonsense that's going on now, if you have the power to fill a vacancy on the supreme court, much less two or three, you automatically have more power than a senator. not to mention the power to fill other important positions, make executive orders, command the military etc

    • @davidcole478
      @davidcole478 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +1tishhead I'm not looking for an argument, just pointing out facts. I've read it straight from Constitution (mostly because I had the same views you do now and a friend suggested my opinion might change...it did). Even without the nonsense that's going on now, 1) Congress still has final approval over a president's selection of a Supreme Court nominee 2) The President has to receive Congressional approval to go to war to satisfy the War Powers Act (in the Constitution) {although Clinton ignored the Act in one instance and that maniac Cheney (a VP) and W. attempted to do it as well}.
      Oh, last but not least, the 535 members of Congress have oversight and investigative power over the Executive Branch not to mention full legislative power, including overriding a Presidential veto. If Congress didn't have all of this power to keep the Executive branch in check, we would have something closer to a Dictatorship than a Democracy.....although I think we currently have something more like a plutocratic/oligarchy than a democracy anyway. In any case, you can find it all at www.whitehouse.gov

    • @1tishhead
      @1tishhead 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +David Cole not looking for an argument either, but respectfully disagree.
      yes, congress as a whole has those powers. but the members of the supreme court (and other high-level courts) are all there because individual presidents vetted and chose them. very few are rejected and the ones who are are replaced by justices of the president's choosing. the same with military action. all the actions we have taken for generations have been because of decisions made by presidents and their advisors, not by congress.

America had spoken and voted Obama, but a the few that don't is trying to sabotage America to get a president they want in the White House?! That does not sound like an American government or how it was designed by our fore fathers! Now like him or not he is your boss and leader of our nation. To act against him James is treason. Hence, they didn't do their job either.
