Utah, Taylor Randall Killed the Pac-12 by Asking ESPN for $50 Million, Causing Big 12 Expansion.

- In a recent report by Pac-12 insider John Canzano, the revelation surfaced regarding the individual responsible for what many consider to be the conference's downfall.
Over the past year, up until roughly a month ago, the conference had been actively seeking a media rights deal to compensate for the losses incurred by USC and UCLA. However, when ESPN presented an offer of $30 million per school, there was a widespread sense within the conference that they could secure a substantially better deal.
The conference, under the leadership of George Kliavkoff, made a counteroffer of $50 million, which ESPN promptly rejected, leading to the termination of negotiations. This figure was reportedly suggested by a university president, with Utah president Taylor Randall being identified by Canzano as the source.
One Pac-12 president characterized this offer as initially intended for negotiation but ultimately transforming into a "take your ball and go home" scenario.
As a result, the conference is now rapidly heading towards extinction, with only Oregon State and Washington State remaining as solitary programs. The others have defected to the Big Ten, Big 12, or ACC.
Canzano dissected the primary errors that contributed to this situation, including the choice of an inexperienced consulting firm for negotiating college-level media rights, Kliavkoff's perceived lack of leadership, insufficient attention to the USC and UCLA departures, and, although not explicitly mentioned, the conference's uncooperative stance toward the Big 12.
The future of the conference appears uncertain, as it either faces dissolution or the possibility of evolving into some sort of hybrid entity with the Mountain West, as elaborated in Canzano's report.

Utah waiting for the NFL invite
Yep ! And they should be exempt from the regular season as well. Why would Utah mess around with gimme games against the 49ers and Rams when they will obviously be in the playoffs anyway?
Yeah that's why when Whittingham was asked about playing the rivalry again with BYU he brought up realignment cause they were sure that NFL invite was close.
And yet Utah fans will try to convince everyone that BYU is arrogant. Ha.
Utah has won 9 of 10 against BYU. Is that arrogant? 😂
arrogant? Not really, entitled and bratty? yes
Sad part is we now have the deluded, arrogant people from Utah and ASU in the conference.🙄
As an Oregon State fan, the amount of idiocy, arrogance, and ineptitude I have witnessed continuously surprises me when I thought I have seen it all.
Awww too bad.
@@vernonsheldon-witter1225 take a lap
I've heard about Utah fan hate of BYU, I understand rivalries but it sounds more than that, it sounds like religious persecution to me.
I've noticed BYU is happy to be in big 12 from Utah it seems like this snobbery, maybe they are trying to replace Texas in that category , I always liked BYU they are much more of a national program than Utah and much more known and I expect that will maintain.
Welcome to the big 12 BYU
Really? Well 95% of the kids that attend Utah are LDS. The coaches of Utah are LDS. Coach Whittingham attended BYU and is LDS.
There's a reason why all the teams in the WAC then, MWC hated BYU and that's BYU's arrogance, entitled attitudes and whining when they didn't get their way. You could also throw in their blatant racism and even today, their archaic views on LGBTQ+.
Only the perfect Mormon kids went to BYU, the less than perfect Mormon kids, minorities, non-LDS went to Utah or Utah State.
Know something about what you're talking about instead of making up shit.
Thankful to be here.
This is just the most Utah story I’ve ever heard. Arrogant as ever
Conzano wasn't very good on realignment. Kliovcock Def destroyed this after Larry Scott got it started. Utah didn't want to leave the conference can't blame them but they Def need to be humble and take a look at themselves and be greatfull where they landed. Their fans show their character anytime they get any criticism, they just can't handle it.
This is probably the least surprising story I have ever heard in my life. I’m honestly upset that the big 12 rescued utah. They don’t want to be in the conference, they think way too highly of themselves, and they look down on everyone. They are more stuck up than perennial national title contenders.
And 12 years ago they were getting 1mil a year as a G 5. It’s so gross that it was them and not UW, UO or even UA or Stan. I hope the B1G never offered them and the B12 boots them back to the MW.( yes, I know it won’t happen,I can wish)
Haha turns out it was Utah... and no one is surprised.
The sheer amount of idiocy coming from the PAC12 leadership has been breathtaking. The vast majority of these clowns needs to be relieved of their duties.
So basically, Utah took a dump in the west concourse of the Pac12. Fitting.
DCT, love the energy and the professionalism. You gained a lot of fans by not lowering yourself to the level of other talk show hosts. Much respect amigo. 🎉🎉🎉

Well if you will remember back when Colorado join the pac-12 Oklahoma also asked for an invitation to join the pac-12 and the pac-12 declined what a stupid move
Utah thinks they are too good even for the Big 10, it killed them to not get invited to the Big 10 conference, let’s see how they do in the Big 12
The Big 10 has no interest in Utah. They had better get real happy really quick.
This is still Kliavkoff's fault, and all those Pac school's fault, for going along with this asinine idea of bringing a number derived by a PROFESSOR to the bargaining table. Not a media expert, like Navigate, a PROFESSOR. This is so West Coast to believe that some degreed outsider should be respected above actual insiders.
Love how when the truth comes out🎉 and the dust settles it was the arrogance of Taylor Randall that brought the Pac 12 down. What is so satisfying is reading how much the Big 12 fans loathe the arrogant team and the coach. And these feelings have bled over into the College football landscape as well. Just as satisfying is knowing that the team in Salt Lake chose a new moniker or team nickname for themselves. Say hello to Truck Stop Nation a.k.a. The Truck Stoppers. 😂😂🎉🎉🎉😂
Would like to know where grandma's resturant?...I'm getting hungry.
Ha ha ha, well played on the urkle reference.

Guys! Utah never ever ever was driving the bus in the Pac-12. Ever!
Utah never had the power to do that. Ever.
Utah being the scapegoat is ridiculous on the face of it.
Utah was never ever considered the leader of that conference
🤣🤣🤣🤣!!! Poetic Justice!!!!
The quality of this channel has dropped dramatically.
When did you notice this? When Josh Neighbors was removed and replaced for telling the truth? That was the first mistake.
Is Utah and its fanbase happy and content to be in the Big 12? YES. Is it giddy and over the moon excited like an enthusiastic teenage girl? NO, and it never will. If you want those giddy teenage schoolgirl screams of excitement then you’ll find plenty from BYU, UCF, Houston, and Cincy. You know, the schools that just made the transition from being really good G5 teams to now becoming P5/P4. Yeah, Utah did that same transition more than a decade ago. So, pardon us if we have far less enthusiasm doing a lateral P5/P4 move. By the way, all this constant whining about this by Big 12 fans comes off as an insecurity and a big put off. It’s like having an insecure girlfriend who constantly asks, “Do you passionately love me? Do you?” She always needs that affirmation and attention. After awhile no matter how much you were into her in the beginning it gets old and irritating really quickly. And finally, Utah doesn’t give a flying F$ck if Big 12 fans like, hate, or anything in between us.
