    @finalmind Well I think it was the fact that Gerhard took it a bit like fun racing in F1,whilst Senna always did everything in the book and even more just to be the best in F1. And as Gerhard saw that with his approach to F1 he cant beat Senna, than he settled to support him and that made them great friends I think. But still Senna must have been shocked a bit in Phoenix 1990,when gerhard took pole on his first attempt in a Mclaren and Ayrton was only 5th :)

    Not all may like the shrill sound of the supercharged V16, but it makes a sound like nothing else.
    To this date Senna was the last driver to win the F1 drivers' title with a V12 engined car (1991). So yes, people remember the Honda V12 because it was successful and won 13 races in two seasons.

    Senna got along with Berger because he knew that Berger was not as good as him. Michael Andretti said that he and Senna got along great, too, and he was nowhere near Senna. Prost was the only teammate to challenge Senna and we all know how that ended.

    • @karima_MK
      @karima_MK 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      But once Prost left they became close. Two anecdotes: Senna was calling Prost every weeks when he retired. And the day Senna died, the morning he sent a message on the french tv for him. When both men started together in Maclaren, they had to meet in Switzerland. They didn't know each other. Prost invited him for lunch along with other members of Honda. Senna pretend to sleep all along the day for her lag not to talk to Prost and become friends. Prost was his target but he liked him. That's why he wanted him to come back.

    The video in the link is the pole lap for the 89 Suzuka GP, and one of the best onboards of Senna in the V10 powered Mclaren. To me, the V10 produces a more huanting almost phantom like howl. When my Dad wathced that clip on one of my DVD's, he remarked "that sound is what I hear when I think of Senna". There is nothing like the scream a 12 cylender Honda GP engine - it sounds like power.

    Some say Senna was selfish... YET hes the only F1 pilot in history to slow to a stop and wave his friend in 2nd Gerhard through on final turn of a race once, just to enjoy giving his friend a win. Here Senna looks tired, strung out. He looks like he needs to drink plenty of water to rehydrate himself. I notice a bit of the Bells palsy activating on his lower right side of face.

    • @knapenalexandre680
      @knapenalexandre680 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Totally Agree with you and with the Ferrari of 1989. Mp4/7 also has some of the most powerfull engine of the time but sadly the chassis and reliability weren't what they used to. If they had that V12 in 93, Senna would have been champion. The MP4/8 had a better chassis. They still managed 5 victories in 92. Without technical issue Senna would have won at least the Canadian GP in place of Berger.

    So before they brought in the semi-auto gear box, did the F1 cars have a clutch?

    • @armorgeddon
      @armorgeddon 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Formula 1 cars still have a clutch and even a footpedal or a lever on the steering wheel to control the clutch. However with semi-automatics the driver only needs to operate the clutch manually when starting from a stand still or while spinning the car to avoid stalling the engine.
