  • Exploring rally's preferred drivetrain for beginners. Quick rundown of pros and cons:
    PROS
    1. Power & Weight is all up front (good for traction)
    2. Handles well in slippery conditions
    3. Helps in understanding AWD
    4. Cheap!
    CONS
    1. Tends to be underpowered (F2 class is the exception)
    2. Can feel stiff, tendency to straighten out (understeer qualities)
    3. Pendulum turns necessary to drive the car at its limit
    Enjoy!

Will you make a comprehensive guide to hand brake 180's and 360's for FWD/AWD?

When I trail break into turn, letting steering use more available grip, car revs go down, and acceleration from the apex is slow, especially in less powerful fwd cars. Is there a way to keep engine in the best power band between start of breaking and apex without overloading front tires?

Typically what you would do is utilize left foot braking and to keep the throttle engaged, so there's no delay as you release the brake. You also do not have to fully engage the brake - you can go halfway and release from there. I find with the lower powered FWD, I don't need to utilize the brake as much.
Actually, with the lower powered FWDs, I prefer to take more traditional apexes because like you said, they lose a lot of revs from trail braking so it's more important to carry as much speed as possible with these cars. I try not to let off the gas at all if I can help it.

Depends on the situation - overcorrecting your steering can lead to going out of control. Be careful when going over crests and bumps, they can destabilize your car. Try to use more brake and gas to steer rather than the wheel (sounds confusing, I know)
