  • Today, I removed the power seat and cleaned and greased the tracks/gearbox/screw jack. Discovered that the floor is 100% rust free - amazing. Also found a neat piece of the original clear plastic seat covers with the small gold stars on it, that was used on Fords (maybe other cars also) back in the mid to late 1950s. My Uncle had a new 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 hardtop with these seat covers. I also found a 1929 penny, which were still in circulation in the late 1950s, as I recall as a kid with my penny collection.
The seat bolsters (black) are actually in very good condition, so I may only have the inserts and foam replaced. I plan on copying the Mark II inserts which have plus sign stitch with a button in the center. Later I will do sort of the same with the door panels, having 7 buttons on them.
The seat mechanism and motor gearbox screw jack now work excellent.
I also scraped off the old paint on the headlight bezels from a 1955 Fairlane that I have had for 50 years and will use on my 1955 Thunderbird. Sanding and painting on them next. Might also order the carpet. Then the main thing left for the interior will be the door panels and kick panels - not counting minor trim things or the hardtop headliner. I am also planning on fabricating a Mercury Sun Valley type of glass roof, but not sure if that will work out of not, but it is in the planning stage.
