      Both of my paternal grandparents had an Irish mother and German father. I wonder if that's a particularly common pairing, and if so why / why not the other way 'round.

    Back in 1959 I bought this album. Yes it's a 33rpm and loved the music for years. Still have it but it's packed away and in storage so I couldn't listen to it. Now I can hear it again. Side 2 makes me want to dance. I have 3 others I love , Judgement at Nuremberg overture, and the 3rd man/Harry Lime theme & Cafe Mozart Waltz from the 3rd Man movie. Fell in love with Anton Kara's zither music. This album got a lot of play. Almost drove mom crazy. Can still hear her, "not that album again. Don't you have something else". The bass singer is just great.

    Could you place the time of where each song begins? Its nice you included all their titles but its hard to tell which is which. This is a nice collection of old songs, I was surprised to see Walfisch zu Ascalon here, I read a book saying that it was really popular in WWI

    • @danielziltener7195
      @danielziltener7195 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      livinghappyisachoice "Im schwarzen Walfisch zu Askalon" is still quite popular in most fraternities, we regularly sing it in ours. As we do half of the other songs on this list :)

      I’m currently reading Ernst Jünger’s memoir of WW1 “Storm of Steel” and he spoke of singing “....Walfisch zu Askalon” while under an intense artillery barrage. Hence how I found this video

      This is at least my interpretation of the phrase:
      The differences as a German American and seeing how it’s actually common and there are commonalities culturally even down to politics by groups (which I didn’t realize they were the most to the right) the Germans are as curt in America as they are in Germany, they’ll tell you blindly what they believe *and they generally have firmer methods of meting discipline to their youth such as slapping, such as a full-fledged bodybuilding police officer spanking a four year old without holding back! Generally slapping is held fondly in retrospect to the past in upbringing
      Basically “my dad will in a reformative way, and be willing to explain, and if need be lay down a reformative punishment to everyone he meets in a restricted but firm fashion and to me as well”
      We have a female firefighter friend named Lundsmith, she’s a tough woman who would throwdown, and has no qualms telling others how she slit the tires of the bicycle of someone that wronged her, and her father gave her the business.
      our family name is Haught, with both me and my sister having blonde hair, blue eyes, and fair skin.
      Generally usually slapping or firm discipline is the corner stone of German America and Germany itself. My father had the belt used on him, and his father was his hero, my father was a full fledged police officer for the Metro Dade police department and he would not restrain himself when he spanked me, but he would tell me what I did wrong before he gave me the spanking, and then send me to the room so that I would only have time to ruminate on what he told me. I have immense respect for him and the discipline and life philosophies he instilled such as as how a person defines their sense of self-worth in their own eyes, and in the eyes of others in their own eyes, is defined by their works and the esteem with which they hold the utility to themselves and others. If we sit around all day we know we feel depressed because we feel lazy slothful and without use, purpose, disappointing ourselves and others.
      My sister and I are both respectful to our parents, and when I was little my mom stated to my Chinese teacher “ I would go to Cody and ask how come you listen to your dad but not me?” And I responded because I was such a simple little child “because daddy hits hard.”
      Honestly the amount of child psychology books I found among his labyrinthian personal library was amazing. And the upbringing predisposes you to more technically minded and more stem fields, because such an upbringing predisposes one to try to find fields that will be valuable to themselves and others in fundamental ways (building things, pondering the extremes and the intricacies of engineering and science to explore the madness that is divinest sense) tell yourself “you can’t build anything” with pride. It is quite impossible. A man that provides for himself can provide for his family, can provide help if needed, and help the community from surplus.

      jmarylastone One can assume that Dr. Dre listened to this. In a picture off of the booklet for Dr. Dre's album 2001 you can see Dr. Dre standing in a room full of records. Some of them are laying on the ground next to him, for example this one. I searched for some of them and I found this record. That's why I've posted this comment - it's also really interesting to me, that Hip Hop legend Dr. Dre probably listened to this, because I'm from Germany and some of these songs are so old that even our parental generation doesn't know about them. Either that or they'd find them outdated or awkward.
