Its actually not good to change the tuning so drastically without changing to heavier gauge of strings, for Drop B you should use at least a 11-54 gauge in case you like light and soft feel, i use 13-62 because i like more tension, and for the average medium tension players a set of 12-58 will work pretty well

Just so y’all know if you’re going to go to drop b tuning from a guitar setup for standard tuning you probably need to have the guitar adjusted and get different strings

PAINNNN I’ve done the same getting a rose Floyd guitar not knowing how to tune one at all, went straight for the headstock and was like “wtf it ain’t changing” then 1 ping later and the string is g o n e

I got not so slinky strings for my 6 string but I think the notches on the bridge are too small now. Should I file them down myself or get someone to do it lol?

What app do you use to tune your guitar?
I use D'tools by d'addario - there's no real reason for it other than I've had it for years, there's plenty of tuning apps that are just fine, though I prefer a snark, I always seem to leave mine on (or my students do) and they run out of batteries!
I wish this was more for a beginner. Im not so much a beginner guitar player, but I’m a beginner at changing the tuning

Got anything for setting up a Jackson for drop B turning or C tuning? Like mine has a whammy bar, but isn't a floyd, so I'm worried about any possible damage I can do to mine in that case? It's the JS22 Dinky. And all this probably sounds like a stupid question
It's not a stupid question friend, but I'm afraid I don't know a whole ton about guitars and their function, I have a guy for that. I just play them :)

It doesn't really harm them, though tuning them drastically over and over again might make them break a bit sooner, that's not an issue if you play enough that you break strings anyhow... if you're going to spend most of a guitar's life in drop B you'll want to get thicker strings so it won't be all jangly like mine were :)
just to play around, you can lower regular strings to drop B, it wont hurt them cuz you are lowering the tuning and tension but it will be pretty floppy and feel loose, so if you plan to play lower than d regularly, heavier strings are recommended anything lighter than like 48-12's is pushing it. i run a 70-16 guage custom set for B, but i run pretty heavy, so id look for a pack with a low range of maybe 64-56 bottom, or buy a 7-string pack and just toss the high string. go heavier of you have a les paul or other 25 incher, but any guitar scale length should do okay in B even if longer is preferable. your pickups however may not. My Franken-lotus with Duncans sounds great and my strat just hates anything below drop C. anything vintage will be weak, but anything modern, especially active pickups is good. if you're on a budget and the music store has some of the dark green "not even skinky" strings, they will work good, though not my choice for sound quality, if you get serious, check out stringjoy.com and order some customs in the same gauge. they're more expensive but they sound way better and they're tougher for low tuning. they last twice as long so i consider them well worth the money, especially in odd sizes.

i have heard that NOT all guitars can be played/tuned on low tunings. Is that correct? I have a jackson and I plan to use that for low tunings and get a stratocaster for normal tuning. I have tryed to tune my jackson on drop C(with normal strings) or something similar and the result was just awful hahah should i just get some thicker strings or is it because of the guitar type? sorry might be silly question
There's no such thing as a silly question :) Strats are a pain in the A^% to switch tunings, but once you've got them there it's fine... so you're right to keep the strat at standard. And yes, if you're going to be spending a lot of time in lower tunings, you might consider putting thicker strings on your jackson, because they just get so loose they just wobble around down around C and definitely B and forget A :)

yep. they make special string gauges for people to be in drop B. I don't go there often enough to go there. In fact I think this video was the last time I did.

It's drop B. You can tell cause the bottom three strings are a fifth and then a fourth apart (B F# B or D A D or C G C etc)
