    You are a great teacher. As opposed to some who drones on and on, you get straight to the point in an organized and informative way. Every step is shown clearly and you give helpful hints to avoid mistakes. Thank you so much.

    Dear Philippa Tuttiett, thank you very much for this DIY video. It was a great help! I could not have done it without you! Those "little" things you do: cardboard on the ground, tape on the window, the wooden stick, etc. Great help!

    Great video and was helpful to view it before I replaced a broken pane in my old wood window. I followed your direction but had trouble with getting the putty smoothed out. I used Dap 33 Glazier's and despite dipping my putty knife in water the texture of Dap 33 was still like Play-Doh and crumbled or even pulled away totally onto the knife.I had to move my putty knife out laterally from the glass to the frame i/o running the knife down the length of the window. But I got the job done-Thanks!

    Easy to remove glass from a freshly glazed window as in your film also glass you tapped out was undersize, try hacking out a face puttied window that has been in there for 20+ years your system wont work!! you have to do it the hard way by chiseling out the face putty the levering out the old glass.

    A window pane in my kitchen broke. I was able to follow step-by-step your instructions. Everything worked exactly the way you said it would. I purchased the same supplies. I felt so good when my broken pane came out in one piece and landed on the thick brown paper I'd placed down. I felt really good. New window pane, glazier's points, glaze, paint, Done. : )

    You made it look soo easy, but how do you remove really old cracked putty?
    Love your tutorial but not that easy to remove old putty because I have spent the best part of my afternoon chipping away. But really I know it comes down to technique and know how?

    • @anonymous7192
      @anonymous7192 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, you need to use a Hacking Knife and hammer. The video showed brand new putty being removed. Set putty will be rock hard and require chipping out.

    Crap the putty check is never soft. That was glazed about a week before for that putty to removed that easy . You need a sharp chisel and your claw hammer because same putty checks are like concrete more so when you have a knot in the timber

    Oh dear! "Now remove the putty". It looks like that was almost new putty as it came off so easily. What about when it's been in there for years and is rock hard and most difficult to shift? You have to use heat to soften it and metal covers over the glass to prevent it from shattering while you apply the heat, and it takes ages and requires a lengthy sanding down to remove the last slivers of putty remaining. It's also better to remove an opening window and perform this on a bench, plugging the opening with a panel while you do so. As usual, all very pretty for the camera but avoiding the pitfalls and the reality of it all. Whenever will somebody do a DIY show when they actually admit that it's going to be very difficult and time consuming because your going to face problems that they won't admit to or solve in TV land? This is just "DIY froth" for somebody who, as usual, just wants a TV career.

    What a load of deceptive rubbish. The 'putty' she removed was applied about 5 minutes earlier. Advice from a professional: Sheet up inside and out and have a rubbish bin close by. The old putty will be like concrete, it can be softened with a heat gun, and removed by striking parallel to the glass with a sharp wood chisel and wooden mallet (better than a hammer) and scraping the rebate clean with heavy duty paint scraper. Place each shard of glass in the bin as removed. Protect adjoining putty and glass from the heat gun by holding a metal baking tray over. Front edge of rebate MUST be clean and straight, if not uneven putty line will result. Unless you have a skip, shake out the sheets onto a garage floor or similar, sweep and hoover up debris. Always wear gloves and eye protection. Keep young children and pets away from work area.

    Awful, that putty wasn't set. Putty is rock hard and requires the use of a Hacking Knife and hammer to remove.

    I followed the steps in the video but had a tragic end. I taped up the window and bashed it out with timber. It didn't come out in one piece, glass went everywhere. All through the grass and bushes. My dog found some glass, started to chew on it, cut it's mouth up pretty bad and had to be put down when the infection got beyond the help of medicine. Plus I also cut my self when I tried to remove the putty, but it didn't come out like in the video, my hand slipped and my hand ran across a sharp piece sticking out, 15 stitches later, it's going to scar.

    • @irukashe
      @irukashe 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Benji Lanno No gloves while doing that? You didn't tape it well enough or use duct tape if most of it shot out. Sad story if true but sounds like you didn't work safely.

    Sadly that is not a putty knife, but a filler knife you are using, a putty knife has one curved edge and one straight edge, if you are going to put videos on TH-cam, please at least use the right tools.
