Awesome. Nice to see someone getting back to basics. I haven't watched part 2 yet, but my guess is you open up the ECU and find some dry or broken solder joints on the board.
I've not heard of that scope (Micsig). It looks very capable. Catching those signals at battery voltage at 12:44 was pretty cool. I like that you use labels during the video to help relay your points. Also very cool. Then you include the computer graphics and okay, now it's triple cool. Great diagnostic skill Will. I'll be back!
wyattoneable a few months ago I was in the same boat in search of an easier way and stumbled on this, very glad I did I reached out to them with lots of questions and they replied to everyone of them. At that point I was willing to take a chance with it, good customer service is hard to find. Am happy to hear the extra effort is reconized. I know for me these were some of the hardest things to understand till I visually excepted the reasoning, my hopes is it dose the same for someone else
That was an awesome capture. Great to see u put a vid out its been a while. This is dylan the guy u met in little falls. I finally got my lift. Anyways this vid was absolutely awesome. I enjoyed it a ton. Thanks will. Have a great day.
Dylan Kinch thank you 👍 I'm glad it acted up when it did, I was about to give up trying to capture it. Yes I will always remember you man 😉 that is a moment I share often with friends and family. Glad to see you here
Another smooth and precise video. Well done! The drawings and pictures reinforce the whole video. I'm another person thats very interested in the scope, this could be a good affordable scope for retired and diy mechanics.
Very glad to see a new video was worried about you. Great work as always and hope to keep seeing more vids from you. Ive have had similar issues on these. Great Job
thank you for the concerns, im still kicking ;) its great knowing that all you guys have stuck around for me, means the world. im not going anywhere you guys are family now. thanks again
Thank you for kind words Leon! im always hesitant posting videos like this knowing there is so many ways to approach it, feels good knowing that another tech appreciates the content. keeps me coming back mate :)
Just suffered the exact same thing on a Saab 9-3 1.9tid, just on number 3 injector, wired a switch in to shut the injector off, and then no smoke, swapped the injectors around and it was still number 3 which led me to conclude the ECU was faulty, changed the ECU and fault was cured.
You scoundrel making us wait for part two, LOL Well done Will easy to follow. Thanks for the showing this scope I will seriously look into this as I can justify $500 vs $1600 for the Pico when I am just using this at home not as a business.
;) hehe lol im am going to do my best and have the final editing completed today! and have part 2 posted no later than tomorrow. its my goal for today, you guys waited long enough for this one. I must say im very impressed with the ease and convenience of this scope, I can honesty say out of all my new toys lately this one takes the cake! sure it may not have all the bells and whistles however it will get the job done and do it very well. in addition knowing I can grab and go with very little setup has me using a scope way more often. with hopes maybe Micsig will see this potential, while being tablet based the future potential of this unit is unlimited with addition to other software. I have reached out with hopes they take on this challenge with me. reaching for a star i know but you just never know.
Chris Abraham great to hear from a fellow user 👍 👍 so much potential this company has if they keep growing. The quality in this price line is second to non that I have found
Hey, I like your drawing over the actual diag scanner. That's really cool. Shows where you doing the issue is etc. Have not finished watching the vid. But you still got many thumbs up from me :)
Great video! Loved it. Explanations where so good my son came over an started watching with me and he understood everything..that made my day...thank u
Drews Auto that's awesome 😁 👍 I know for some it may seem over kill but I try to keep in mind the up and coming trying to learn, this makes my day as well
I am wondering if there are bad solder joints in that ECU, classic symptoms of dry joints. I would be tempted to open up that ECU and have a look. Fantastic job with the diagnosing, you made a great capture with the scope.
Thank you so much for this video. I had been have the same issue for months. Never could get it to replicate while testing. Also I enjoyed the trouble shooting and the o-scope is awesome.
I’m having the same excact problem with my Saab and I’m about to pull my hair out trying to get to the core of the problem. I don’t have this tool though. Wished I did. Thanks
Thanks for the videos on the saab and this tool and usage! Perfectly explained for those of us learning! Only minor thing to maybe have added was showing how you probed to injectors. I am assuming you probed the the ground side using the probes and not the hot side of the circuit.
I’m thinking of purchasing that scope or the viso ...I like the micsig so far color screen..The only thing I don’t like about the micsig it appears to not have the voltage measurements on the left side display.. but not sure if it’s required.thanks for the video 👍
I’m kind of a noob but I’m working through this problem on my own 9-3 (2004). I was getting the rare no start, occasional running perfect, usually running ok. Pulled codes P0201-4 + P0245. After changing plugs, swapping coil packs from my other 9-3, changing injectors from my other 9-3 (though- admittedly, a 2006), I sent my ECU in for a clone to a “new” (used- BCB) ECU. Plugged it in but I got the same codes within minutes BUT it added P0246... So now on my “new” used ECU I’m getting P0201-4, P0245, and P0246. I was thinking about getting noid lights or a multimeter to check both the connectors signals + the resistance in each of my injectors. But I’m not sure if that will give me the right information now. I don’t know if I have the skill or electrical understanding to test all the grounds as you did. Does this seem like a good way to go or what else should I try/look out for? I’m afraid that I might get another ECU in and fry it or simply not solve my main problem of misfiring/not starting/stalling. PLEASE lol any any anyyyy help appreciated!! I’ve been researching this like crazy and I’m ready to continue researching and digging in to figure this out! I want my baby back on the road!!
ram40andy 3 days ago I just bought an ATO 1104 a month ago , everything worked ok, but the other days a relay clicking noise came from inside when switching the voltage scale from 200mv to 500mv on any channel. All began when I connected CH1 to AUX OUT CH with P130A probe. Everything works as it should now except this noise
thank you for the compliment and thoughts, i will try and be more active, i gotta with all this great support around me its a great feeling reading these comments
Looks like you were probing the switched side of the injectors, which makes sense. First key on, injector one was at ground, implying it was being held open. Second key on, two were at ground, implying they were being held wide open. Assuming the current clamp showed the draw, I'm going for the ECM is really messing things up. Looking at the voltage wave for inj. 1 at the first start, the ECM seemed to be pulsing it way too much, dumping fuel in the cylinder. I'm only 14 minutes into the video, and you seem to have two injectors held wide open at second key on. I'm no expert, but the ECM is not doing what it should. New ECM, and most importantly, change the oil; it's gotta be full of gas.
You described this well enough for an 8th grade drop out like myself. You said you were doing wiggle test, so I guess that was all good. I would've tried swapping the injector with another, because I don't know any better. 😁 Then I noticed the dwell time on cyl 1 is twice as long as the others, which is a controller problem correct? Which would make my dumb self swap an injector just to verify, again because I dont know any better. Can't wait for part 2. Just don't make me wait 2 months 🤣
DIY Misfit "Mechanic" I tried my best to cover the basics while keeping the complexity as well glad you found this helpful. it's not a easy task to swap these out. So I would ask this if I was alongside you, we seen in the first capture only injector 1 acted up correct? Then we captured injector 1 and 4 acting up and we also took a closer look at the injector signal when it was acting erratic and verified the injetor characteristics we're spot on identical to a known good taking at the same time. With the only difference being the "on" time . Think of that light circuit again, if you were in a house and you flipped the switch one time and the light didn't turn off however you flipped it again and the light went out, would you replace the light bulb or would you start looking at the control?
I sent my last failed ecm to get repaired, didn't have to reprogram anything when returned, 4 days full turn around to my door , and was less then half price of a replacement unit that would require programming at additional
Johnny Auto Tech I was almost on that same path it would have been my next step, however something pretty cool came to light and I had to give it a shot. It's a great option! Thanks for sharing
Hey man great video! I noticed you're using the P130a to probe the injectors. Can you give more details how exactly you hooked them up, since I don't quite get why there's that little hook on those P130a probes and how exactly would you back probe the injectors with that. Thanks.
hi great video i have a 2006 Saab 93 Vector it idles rough engine light is on i brought a cheap code reader it comes up P0606 code here in Australia they want a $1000 for a refurbished one would you know the best way to go about fixing it
there is always that potential risk, just a little unlikely for more than one to be failing at one time but crazier things have happened, thanks for sharing you feedback and concerns
Hi ,yes. but it has many many hours of use and I could use an upgrade! I just reached out hoping you guys would like to work with me some more. I truly enjoyed this for many years it has been my go to scope. And would love to continue support this

I have the same model is there anyway you can help me out? I have a bad fuel sender unit and usually it works but recently it’s been not working at all and all of a sudden I am smelling gas from the back of the vehicle and some in the cabin. I would definitely appreciate it.
So the call was a faulty computer driver? How were you able to rule out a short to ground on the control wire vs a faulty transister driver in the ecu?
I am sure you have this car fixed by now but are you sure you don't have a bad crank or cam sensor that is causing the ecu to fire the injectors? BTW I do agree with the drivers in the ECU being bad.
ISB170 Swap yes all is well so far. that would have been my next step if it was acrossed the board or a no start, your correct this can cause strange things to happen as well. Will be sure to cover more control captures next time, thanks for the feedback and question
im sure he was pleased when that happened 😒 its got a lot to do with the placement of the ECU im sure. mounted on the engine with all the heat and vibration cant be good
Have these probs with my 04 saab 93 always suspected ECU when this happins to me i disconect battery terminal to cut power to reset ecu then it would start wit no prob but always comes back sick of disconnecting terminal lol
The moment you realize Saab’s are POS when they designed the ECU to be placed on the hot engine, thus damaging it in the long run. This is a common occurrence. And you no longer can purchase new ECUs.
All these guys trying hard to find a use for a scope for youtube... Noid lights hooked up for a quick check would have shown the noids lit up all the time and simplified this.......

a trick : you can watch movies at kaldrostream. Me and my gf have been using it for watching a lot of movies these days.
@Korbyn Brysen Yea, I've been watching on kaldroStream for since november myself =)
Best diag video I've seen in quite a while! Thank you my man!

Great video. You might want to put a scope on power and ground to the ECU. Enough noise can cause the computer to go off into bobo land.
Kenneth Nichols I agree that would have been a great capture as well. powers and grounds can make thing crazy. Thanks for the feedback

great video. this oscilloscope is good
I'd Be concerned about the injectors also, could be the cause for the ecu driver failure
there is always that potential risk, just a little unlikely for more than one to be failing at one time but crazier things have happened, thanks for sharing you feedback and concerns
awesome share Will !
thank you man
Hi, do you still have the TO1104? we would like to help you upgrade to ATO1104 -- the automotive version.
Hi ,yes. but it has many many hours of use and I could use an upgrade! I just reached out hoping you guys would like to work with me some more. I truly enjoyed this for many years it has been my go to scope. And would love to continue support this
great video Will btw what info system were you using on you phone ? diagrams looked great for a Euro car thank again
Thank you! Most likely I was using BBB industries www.bbbind.com/tsb-wiring-diagrams/
Free resource, great for on the fly
hi.. how do you did to connect the proves, did you use any attenuator to get the injector signal, and what kind of meter clamp did you use to do it, I cant see it.. sorry im new in how to use the oscilloscope, and good video thankyou!!
Uncle Willy Hope you get 37k Subs 😀
thank you buddy i hope so to :)
Maybe today or tomorrow bud 😁😁 getting close
Bam there it is bud 37k 😁
So it's sending more fuel then should... evap, clogged exhaust. Ignition or throttle pcv,?
How do you like that scope? I like the price tag that thing has. Thinking about getting it so I have a stand alone O-scope. My Snap-On Edge has a 4 channel but if someone else needs it to look at pids, it's kind of annoying.
Learning a lot. Thank you sir!!!!
glad to hear you find these videos educational
Good video i have a miss fire on my Saab you think is the fuel injector..i help on this one please...thanks.
how do you put a voltage scale on the scope? like a pico or even snap on has?? i think you would have caught that the traces were reading 12 volts if your scope had a voltage scale for each channel does it have a filter. i just bought the mic sig only thing i dont like is the leads! really like a 3 inch ground clip for each.
Thanks for the video! Can you please tell me where the crankshaft potion sensor is in the year car. I will be very grateful if you can thanks.
Amazing video basically a school lessonn
Hello, I'm from Germany and I have the same problem as you with your Saab! What exactly needs to be repaired? I could not help a workshop. Thank you, Thomas from Berlin/Germany
Will, who did you buy your micsig scope from? Was it sainsmart? If so, are they the authorized distributor and support for this scope? I am interested in getting one, but want to be certain there will be a great support staff to help answer questions. I also didn't notice on your scope any grid lines and time and voltage divisions identified. Does this scope not allow these to be displayed? Thank you Will
How much did you pay for the micsig scan tool? Does it have bi- directional mode? Can you make a video showing all the modes and features of the scan tool?
the micsig is strictly an Oscilloscope but very handy and powerful. sure thing i will make more videos, heres a link www.micsig.com/
And is there a good source that you would recommend to make sure the warranty is good ?
The ECM is bad and needs to be cloned/replaced. Common symptom when it fails are a plausibility fault or injector codes.
Hi Will. Did you see my questions below
What kinda of Scanner are you using, and does the schematics comes with it???
That's my uncle !
:) yup its your proud uncle! keep up the great work buddy
Isn't Bob your uncle?
R. E. Hill No he is my dad if you our talking about bobby
I am sure you have this car fixed by now but are you sure you don't have a bad crank or cam sensor that is causing the ecu to fire the injectors?

ISB170 Swap yes all is well so far. that would have been my next step if it was acrossed the board or a no start, your correct this can cause strange things to happen as well. Will be sure to cover more control captures next time, thanks for the feedback and question
robinsonsauto Thanks for the response.
Saab.... mhhh... my boss had that issue with his Saab!
im sure he was pleased when that happened 😒 its got a lot to do with the placement of the ECU im sure. mounted on the engine with all the heat and vibration cant be good
Do you think this is the best scope at or around $500 ?
Classic saab 9-3 fail ). Thanks for sharing!
Replacing the driver transistors?
that would be awesome, im planning on opening it up shortly

was this video meant to be a review of your machine..
Very nice trouble shooting my SAAB friend
My saab got on fire few times when I been trying to start it because ecu..
I have same issue. what was fix?
my 05 9-3 smells like gas inside the car and outside but no codes or leaks
What was replaced?
Hour much for the scope?
What is your scanner name
Mehar Gee the scanner I used to pull the codes originally was a launch x431 however I do have a tech2 for going deeper
