When we trimmed my cat by the end he was crying like we were killing him so we stopped before we could get to his legs so he looked like he was walking around with boots on. Puss in Boots 😂

This is too late but you’re not suppose to shave your kitty unless medically necessary. A cat’s coat is unique in that it helps them to regulate both heat & cold. Shaving a kitty just makes them more susceptible to sunburn & heat stroke (the very thing you’re trying to prevent). Please leave Kitty’s fur alone. It has been proven that cats can feel embarrassed & some do feel embarrassed every time their hair is clip. I have a part Maine Coon cat who weighs in at 18 pounds (not overweight according to the vet) he’ll be 5 this July 2023, & his medium length thick fur coat has never been shaved nor trimmed, & he has never overheated nor gotten heatstroke. Summer here has temperatures up to 40 degrees Celsius outside & 45 degrees inside a standard apartment, plus the humidity. My other medium haired kitty has a thinner coat but she also has never been shave & she too has been fine, she just turned 9.
I was going to take my boy to the groomers. He's indoor/outdoor and has accumulated so many burrs. Your video gave me the courage to try it at home, and he actually liked it, was purring! Thank you!

You have a great calm cat. My cat isn't calm with grooming or shaving. She gets very aggressive and will attack. I had to unfortunately take to veterinary and they couldn't handle her so they have to sedate her. I hate this. I wish there was an easier way
I think she still looks great. It makes her almost look kittenish and I'll bet she's enjoying being a little bit cooler. She was very well behaved when you were shaving her, Emma would tear me to strips if I tried that lol

Actually she’ll be hotter. You should never shave a double coated cat unless severely matted. Just brush out all the undercoat and the cat will be much cooler. Cats rely on their double coat which acts as insulation to regulate their body temperature.

Maybe get them accustomed to the sound of the clippers first. You could also try petting them with the clippers (while they're not on) and then give them a treat after each pet. If you have an anxious cat, it's important to take very slow, baby steps to help them get used to new things and shower them with treats as rewards. This way, they can develop positive feelings towards any new activities you're trying to introduce

I have six ragdolls in west Texas and the only time I shave them is when they develop deep mats (as very elderly cats do) or need hygiene trims.

Cats were bred by us humans for desirable yet unpractical traits. so they didn’t evolve this way Naturally because it wouldn’t make sense in a natural environment .long hair like that is not desirable or comfortable for the cat. It usually ends in mats, and excessive overheating in hot areas. This is an example of why breeding sometimes can be a bit cruel. It’s for our own amusement because it looks cute but it’s not practical . Another good example is the poor bulldog , Which lives most if it’s life in misery.

It has no cooling function, when it is to Long. It DOES have a cooling function, when they have short fur and can wet their own fur with their toungue. If the fur is to long, they lick themself for hours, the cooling effect would never reach the skin.

I struggle with the guards so much. It's like it doesn't actually take anything out. I have a long hair who mats once the fur is over two inches long. I don't want to have to shave him down completely, just manage it. But I do recommend a thinning shears for around the face and mane. It helps my gentleman groom himself without constantly getting caught on his own fur

I have a cat that my son found abandoned 10 months ago. I have developed a good relationship with her & I can see she really appreciates having a home & a bed to sleep in & food when ever she wants. She had been keeping herself well groomed during the time I have had her but recently I noticed she has knots developing in her fur. She has been very difficult to shave, I tried to shave her while she was eating but straight away she shows me she don't like it & fights. I had a friend who works at the vets come & have a look at her, my friend naturally developed a way to grab animals from working at the vets, my cat recognised that straight away & she started to fight her off. My cat doesn't like any kind of restraint & fights hard to get away. It's been difficult no matter what I try.
Thank you for this very helpful video - we have a 2-year old long-haired cat who looks a lot like your cat. I let him out in the back yard when I'm working from home because I sit right next to the patio door and although he wanders in and out, he always stays where I can see him. Being outside offers so much enrichment to our cat, so we are lucky he stays close . There is even a beautiful magnolia tree he loves to climb, and we are lucky that he's not brave enough to go very high up. A couple of down sides to letting him go outside is that we have to stay on top of flea treatment, and also that last Winter's record rain resulted in a huge amount of sticker-weeds. I'm trying pull them all out, but they grow SO fast, and our poor cat keeps collecting them in his tail . We just ordered cat clippers on Amazon and we're hoping he is as well-behaved as your wonderful kitty and that the shorter hair will make it easier for him AND for us to stay clean and sticker-free. I have siberian cats and i bought clippers that were supposed to be for extremely thick fur, but they barely work, even after cleaning and applying blade oil. the ones you have look like they work so well!!!

respect, you got it done and she will thank you in this weather. i am having a very hard time trimming my long hair, she has very little interest in food and will happily eat only dry food. she is so impatient and when she is done, she is done. very hard to continue without totally risking traumatizing her. i feel so sorry for her in this heat, think i will bring her to a pro for this one, poor thing already has a few clumps of matted fur under her arms, but she will not stay still long enough to cut them out with scissors

Thank you for this, trying to add this as regular grooming because she has a serious issue with hairballs . She literally almost died from a hair ball so it has to be done unfortunately, this video helps a ton.
awww i'm sorry to hear but i'm glad your kitty is ok now. brushing my cat daily also helped a lot regarding hairballs. So maybe brushing more could help your cat too? I've also heard that cat grass can help although i've never tried.

It's so hard to do if you're not a professional. I have a white cat with fine fur but she sheds a lot. When he had an ultrasound they shaved his stomach area and the shedding was so much less, so I thought well I'll try it. I used a guard with the longest teeth but wasn't sure which one to use, long or short teeth? He lets me do it a little while I give him treats,sometimes he's better and sometimes not! Your cat looks fine!
Okay, but how do you prevent the hair from folding under the shaver, like I can pass my shaver over the cat 100 times and it doesn't pick up any much or any hair at all. Even without the guards I have to grab tufts of hair and push them into the shaver for them to get shaved. My shaver is something that looks the same as yours.
does your house have air condition? and also i find that getting them a marble slab to lay on also helps. i just bought a marble slab that was used for kneading dough. and the trimmer is just one i got from amazon. many companies sell the same trimmer on amazon so just pick the cheapest one with the best review since they are probably all from the same manufactor
Is there any way for the blade to harm the cat? Is there a way to go too deep? If It touches my skin while on will it hurt me? I have never in my life used a trimmer and I’ve gotten one for my cat and I want to understand if there’s any casualties I have to avoid 😥

have shorthaired cat but he is 13-14 years and will not shed in own he sheds but most stays in under coat and takes weeks to brush fully out as he hates comb and vet likes to check his skin so have appointment around now and I shave him down to point that he looks like lion he is orange but most of time I end up having to go extra short when he does have skin problems so he gets buzz cut just enough hair to cover skin so I can put on cream and medicine without hair getting in way but as I said he looks like lion when no problems he is less angry at trimmer than brush weirdly can get it don in two days sometimes one day if he gets plenty catnip and catnip spray and oil as he stares into the abyss I shave him but he is now onto me and looks at me all like I am suspicious but once it starts he zonks guess it is buzzing vibrations also tried food and treats but he is not food motivated he loves gravy and catnip tea but not enough to get brushed first time to do it myself as he mutilated all the grooms so yep then had a relative do it but he moved away to Florida to retire probably will be back fast he hates snakes and lizards so his choice is not smart as 99% of Florida animals seem to consist of snakes and lizards he really hates other people someone tried to break in and he tore him up so bad that he had to get about 300 stitches he tried to sue me and get him euthanized but video evidence killed that quick as my cat only attacked him in my camper never stepped out the guy even broke his leg like bone out of leg type and did not include the stitches for that but if I invite you and tell him the safe word he won't attack just stare at you

I shaved my cat once but I think I shaved too much cos he got sick after with flu like symptoms. So it’s important to note that if you really have to do it yourself, don’t trim it too short.

No, cats overheat and that's why mine, when it gets really hot, DO NOT LAY IN THE SUN, and instead lay on the cool tiles in front of my fireplace.

I have siberian cats and i bought clippers that were supposed to be for extremely thick fur, but they barely work, even after cleaning and applying blade oil. the ones you have look like they work so well!!!

you can possibly train him to be comfortable in his carrier. because Deku used to be terrified of the carrier too. but now she plays in it and etc

respect, you got it done and she will thank you in this weather. i am having a very hard time trimming my long hair, she has very little interest in food and will happily eat only dry food. she is so impatient and when she is done, she is done. very hard to continue without totally risking traumatizing her. i feel so sorry for her in this heat, think i will bring her to a pro for this one, poor thing already has a few clumps of matted fur under her arms, but she will not stay still long enough to cut them out with scissors

Thank you for this, trying to add this as regular grooming because she has a serious issue with hairballs . She literally almost died from a hair ball so it has to be done unfortunately, this video helps a ton.
awww i'm sorry to hear but i'm glad your kitty is ok now. brushing my cat daily also helped a lot regarding hairballs. So maybe brushing more could help your cat too? I've also heard that cat grass can help although i've never tried.

It's so hard to do if you're not a professional. I have a white cat with fine fur but she sheds a lot. When he had an ultrasound
they shaved his stomach area and the shedding was so much less, so I thought well I'll try it. I used a guard with the longest teeth
but wasn't sure which one to use, long or short teeth? He lets me do it a little while I give him treats,sometimes he's better and sometimes not! Your cat looks fine!

Okay, but how do you prevent the hair from folding under the shaver, like I can pass my shaver over the cat 100 times and it doesn't pick up any much or any hair at all. Even without the guards I have to grab tufts of hair and push them into the shaver for them to get shaved. My shaver is something that looks the same as yours.

does your house have air condition? and also i find that getting them a marble slab to lay on also helps. i just bought a marble slab that was used for kneading dough.
and the trimmer is just one i got from amazon. many companies sell the same trimmer on amazon so just pick the cheapest one with the best review since they are probably all from the same manufactor
also another tip my vet gave me is that if the cat is really hot. wet their paws. it'll cool them down since cats don't sweat

have shorthaired cat but he is 13-14 years and will not shed in own he sheds but most stays in under coat and takes weeks to brush fully out as he hates comb and vet likes to check his skin so have appointment around now and I shave him down to point that he looks like lion he is orange but most of time I end up having to go extra short when he does have skin problems so he gets buzz cut just enough hair to cover skin so I can put on cream and medicine without hair getting in way but as I said he looks like lion when no problems he is less angry at trimmer than brush weirdly can get it don in two days sometimes one day if he gets plenty catnip and catnip spray and oil as he stares into the abyss I shave him but he is now onto me and looks at me all like I am suspicious but once it starts he zonks guess it is buzzing vibrations also tried food and treats but he is not food motivated he loves gravy and catnip tea but not enough to get brushed first time to do it myself as he mutilated all the grooms so yep then had a relative do it but he moved away to Florida to retire probably will be back fast he hates snakes and lizards so his choice is not smart as 99% of Florida animals seem to consist of snakes and lizards he really hates other people someone tried to break in and he tore him up so bad that he had to get about 300 stitches he tried to sue me and get him euthanized but video evidence killed that quick as my cat only attacked him in my camper never stepped out the guy even broke his leg like bone out of leg type and did not include the stitches for that but if I invite you and tell him the safe word he won't attack just stare at you

I shaved my cat once but I think I shaved too much cos he got sick after with flu like symptoms. So it’s important to note that if you really have to do it yourself, don’t trim it too short.
