- Today I am showing you how to do a sanitary trim at home on my cats Faucet and Coupon. They are long-haired and I shave around their bottom to keep it sanitary. Faucet dislikes to be shaved and Coupon HATES to be shaved so I have some tips for dealing with them that you can use on your difficult cat!

Getting my long haired buddy home from the vet after his weekend long spa stay at his vet's office for apparently no reason other than he just didn't want to clean himself last week and then became raw. Thought something was seriously wrong, but after a series of expensive tests, apparently not (edit: obviously, a good thing!). Regardless, I came to the trusty internets to learn how to shave him to enable his whimsy to just not clean himself whenevers. I dutifully scrolled past all of the plain jane videos about sanitary shaving until I got to your thumbnail that showed a face of a woman who has both seen some shit and who knows how to handle business. Haha so funny! I may or may not try this at home. My two cats are almost twins to yours. One snowshoe mix and one ragdoll mix. Wish I could share a photo. Good luck working on the burrito technique. I've tried it for giving pills but never with a good outcome!

Thank you for the tips and for the laughs 😂 We have 1 tuxedo/Main Coon mix (Angus) and 1 full Maine Coon (Maximus) and one of them has been tracking poops, so it’s time for both to get these trims. When my first cat, Bailey (orange tabby), was a kitten, I had to wrap him in a burrito to trim his nails. Thankfully, that’s no longer necessary, as he just lets me do it, but I do have to wrap the other two to get anything done. Maximus is a kitten, and he actually enjoys being held, but Angus is old and ornery and does not want anything trimmed or to be held in any way. He’s totally a Coupon!

Thank you so much! I feel so bad and i don't want my baby hating me! But he needs it. He wont allow me to brush him, all he does is freak out and bite the brush. Don't know if that's bc he was a stray most of his life, it even took him forever to accept and understand what a kiss was! 🤣🤣🤣 So he now has dreadlocks underneath his armpits. And i know cats are super clean in general, but i noticed that my cat is extra clean, he grooms himself constantly and has beautiful long golden fur. And i know it's bad when he can't do it himself. Appreciate this video! New subbie!
Alright after my OTHER long haired cat ALSO started having poopbutt issues I gave in and bought the clippers and they got here and I THINK TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT WE'RE GONNA TRY IT

Have you ever also washed their bottom with shampoo and water? My cat had an accident and i don't think shaving alone will be enough
My lil ladies are super mean when it’s time for sanitary shaves…..so what i have discovered is just get it done when they’re in heat. They happily present it to you and cooperate super well, so i super shave them then and by the next heat cycle it wont be that long either and a quick shave will do….I’ve been doing this for a while now and my arms are finally healing the scars from previous endeavors.

Trying this today with my nearly 20 year old cat (birthday in april). Never had to before because hes a shorthair and used to keep himself clean. Now that hes starting to show his age he doesnt clean himself anymore.

lol, I thought your cat was named Poupon, like the French mustard... I have an overweight shorthaired girl I've adopted and while she has another sanitary grooming appt this week, maybe someday I'll be able to do the deed myself. Or preferably, she is able to lose enough weight to cleanse herself like my other 2 kitties.

Thanks so much fr this demonstration! I was gonna call a groomer (My 14 lb Norwegian just had 2 no.2s stuck in hair this week, ugh), you just saved me 100$ 💜I was gonna ask a friend to come help and hold him while i do it ...... is that a good idea? It's a friend he knows and loves.

Update: I did it. 🎉 warmed the towel took off the guard and sang to my girl whilst I turned the shaver on low and out of sight. Rocked her and slowly brought the shaver up and wow. She just laid there and let me get it done.
If it isn’t a very good shave job, I certainly can’t blame her.
