Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games th-cam.com/users/postUgkxECnmSvBSv_NGWx4_ChD73pF3NYZwI2F3 and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I love how you mentioned that dogs can heel on the right or the left. Some people/trainers are soooo strict about it being on the left. I’m left handed, so personally I prefer my service dog in training to heel on my right to leave my left hand open and free. Even if some people don’t see it as a “proper” heel.
withUonPlanetE I’m not concerned about us being “proper” as service dogs don’t need to meet show dog standards. And for us “heel” and “close” are two different commands so I can’t use them interchangeably. For us, heel is just behind my leg. Close is a tuck against my leg with a bent body (in situations where my dog needs to get out of the way of others) Close is very uncomfortable to stay in for long and isn’t very practical when walking as we’d step all over each other 😂 We only use it when people are passing with shopping carts.
I’m right handed but now it’s just habit to walk on my right because he is a STRONG puller and I’ve decided to really try and work on it with him, he’s showing so much progress in other things though! Recall, hold, sit, lay down, I got him to lay down when he was all gussied up!(ISNT social, but my dad and I are talking about it and ways to overcome it!(note. My mom died after 5 months of having him so we were grieving and you know how people love to ask you and try you comfort you and all that bleehhhh, so we stayed home... ALOT.. and (I hated him) so he didn’t get socialized properly. But now I realized what happened wasn’t his fault, so I learned to love him, fake it till you make it! You know the saying!) I’m also teaching him in between(go in between my legs) so that if any thing goes wrong I can calm him down with that(hopefully),

Harry_Is_Here I've always wanted an Alaskan Klee Kai but they r quite rare and I hav still not found one for sale😭😭 they're literally a miniature Alaskan husky😍😍😍
It's working when he was young and hungry for a short walk like 30 metres. If walking long distance like 3 kms there will be very tough to make him heel all the time that against his nature. Of course that depends on the breed. To ensure him eat kibbles i had to minimize the amount of treats. Very hard effort. It works I mean but don't expect dogs heel all the time unless they are old enough 🤣
I can’t thank you enough for your content. I watched a ton and listened to your audiobook before I got my puppy and now I watch specific stuff as it comes up. She’s doing great and I’m so happy to have been informed on how to work with her. Thank you!

I have had a lot of challenging fun relearning how to be animated, even if I'm faking it lol while I learn how to keep it interesting. Thank you for your videos which keep training fun and educational for everyone. 💕
Thanks Zak! We were having trouble with our puppy Hera. I started this tactic in our living room and pretty soon she was able to walk the whole living room in the matter of minutes. For our second training session, I took her out to the driveway, which was much improved. Hera is a 4 month Border Heeler/ Collie mix. She is very smart and catches on super quick. Thankfully she is also food motivated. I love your video as you use actual dogs instead of already trained ones. I have seen others that use trained dogs and it’s unrealistic to learn from. I love this positive reinforcement technique because it brings me and Hera closer. Keep up the good work!
My dog just turned a year old, and it’s about time I teach him to heel, in fact I’m trying to teach him a bunch of new things, so this is gonna help a lot, thank you
I just adored this video, not just because of the wonderful effort and great job of BB8, but because you really seem to like what you're doing and it shows. You're so enthusiastic when BB8 does something rewarding and it's so refreshing. I realize this is an older video, but this and a few other videos definitely got me to subscribe to you. I'm moving out getting my first dog (well, first dog that isn't also my mom and dads) in a few months and am going to go to college to get a certificate in training service animals. Your videos are really helping me learn the basics and I've been practicing with my family dog as well. Thank you for providing such wonderful content!
I found this really helpful just to confirm that I'm doing the right things and am on the right track. My one-year-old pomeranian is excellent on walks, she understands commands like "let's go" to change direction, and "leave it" and all kinds of training tools that she needs. But she will always bark at other dogs. I'm trying to teach a very sturdy "look at me" and "heel" to subvert her attention from other dogs before she gets the opportunity to bark at them.
Thank you for this video. My Cane Corso puppy, Watson is very stubborn and determined to lead me Using your method has given us progress. I will not give up. Thank you again.
BBC is such an beautiful dog. Glad you did this video. I was actually working on this in my puppy training class, and felt clueless, even after it was explained to me
I never taught my pup to heal . I just trained him to stay beside me at all times on leash/in public because is a Lab, Great Dane mix and is going to be huge. Its just easier to train them to walk beside you in the first place, in my opinion.
Zak I find the videos so helpful, my pup is six months old and still a handful but the videos are really helping me to get a grip with his training, sit, down, shake hands are great we still have to work on stay but are getting there and walking to heel still a bit hit and miss but hey he is still young but doing great, Thanks for all the good help
I have a Alaskan Klee Kai and we got her when she was 8 weeks old because she was from a puppy mill and we could tell because all of the dogs there where uhm different and she’s very hyper and kinda hard to train because she was so little when we got her we didn’t wanna get her to a trainer before her puppy shots but she was also very scared of almost everything she’s just skittish like she has her people but teaching her this really helped so now she knows that she can’t just run and tug the leash.
Thank you so much for your videos I have a Great Dane puppy that is 3 months old and when stands is almost as tall as me and you videos have help me extremely to train him!!!
For people struggling with any lesson, do whatever tires your dog out, skip one of their meals, then try the behavior with something tasty like beef or a meaty treat, it tends to have better results. Some breeds prefer a toy as reward if they still don't care about food after skipping a meal. Also, some dogs you need to train them in the most boring environment that they see every day if they're easily distracted or nervous. Or try a simpler lesson 5 min twice a day for 3-4 days, such as sit, hand touch, or watch me to teach the dog to mind you and improve focus. I've met some dogs that are far more complicated, and it is really a blessing when the dog still is open to learning and trusting.
I've tried heel with treats and I'm now trying with correction. With treats my dog spends more time attacking me for the treats than actually walking. On the other hand, BB8 is a fantastically adorable puppy.
I have a beagle & Bluetick mix💓 She's having trouble being potty trained since I live in a relatively cold & wet climate. but your videos have helped me greatly! Much love💓
I use a slip lead and man he learned fast and was rewarded with many treats anyone using a slip lead please remember the pressure you use vs the size of your dog i only need very little pressure with my pup
Heel in SD dog work is use for the left side. If you want your dog on the right side, you use the command side. This is more so that if you are in a busy place and people are pushing through on your heel side, you would use the side command to keep the dog from getting stepped on and to be out of the way of others. If you want your SD dog to be on the right side, then you just say side and the dog will walk on your right side. So for SD it is important to have those two commands differ.
i have watched a few of your videos now and i love them .. i cant wait to try all these training methods when we get our new puppy in a couple of weeks. My partners family all use shock collars of some description (bark and parameter collars) but refuse to train their dogs and just hope that the collars will be enough. it infuriates me to see them on the dogs so i have set it as my personal goal to train my dogs correctly and prove that we don't need that technology anymore. love your videos
This video helped me finally yay! Didn’t work that great with treats but she is really into this ball with a squeaker so I used that to reward her! For reward I gave it to her and she has a quick crunch on it for a squeak then I took it from her with the drop it command she let it go. Followed me so fast!
You're a great trainer! Love it. I use some of these videos for my service dog. One thing to keep in mind is only give a dog a treat when they do exactly what you want.
I have a black pit puppy and it took me 3 tries to make sit and only 4 times to make him shake(give paw) and were doing ok on the heel thing but, he likes sticks and likes to roll in the grass since we live in the sticks😄
Great video Zak, thanks! We have a terrier puppy who is 11 months old and he's been doing great with all the tricks but he's not consistent with the obedience training like "come" and "stay". It all depends on his mood and that worries me, particularly since he's also developed his first real behavioral issue. He was a rough play biter early on but your videos helped fix that right away, but now if you try to take something from him to see what he has, like a leaf or stick off the ground he tries to bite us, not in a cute puppy play way, it's more like he snaps in an angry way and he actually made my son bleed last night night. He's pretty good with "leave it" but not if it's something he really really wants. Do you have a video on aggressive biting? We've socialized him and he's great with people, kids, cats and other dogs. Just don't try to take something from him, yikes! Also, thank you so much for your videos, my son is Autistic and your method of training is so gentle and loving it's really helped him understand the value of training.
I have a question. In two weeks, I’m off to collect my German shepherd puppy and hopefully, as it gets older, I’m hoping to get into obedience. This video was super helpful! But, is it okay to keep rewarding them treats? I heard that they can become reliant on them, but I’m not sure! I want him to be able to do this, not because he gets rewarded, but because the he enjoys it and wants to. Do you think if I follow this method and as he learns it, I gradually lessen the amount of treats I give? I’ve never owned a GSD before as a breed, so any tips would be extremely helpful!! Thank you 😇
To be honest you said to press a like to tell BB8 that he has done a good job, but thumbs up to you jack for being amazing in your training techniques. I definitely need to be much more patient to succeed. :)
Great book and clips..love training my border terrier pup using Zak's approach...sometimes he will sit knowing a treat may come such as when walking on the lead...food orientated!
Sir, I sincerely watch Ur videos since I got a new puppy. I really appreciate Ur work and thank you for all Ur efforts. But sir can u make a video on a list of things which we don't need to teach our dogs..that would be very helpful.

Oh my gosh I love that Lord of the Rings collar.
This video helped me finally yay! Didn’t work that great with treats but she is really into this ball with a squeaker so I used that to reward her! For reward I gave it to her and she has a quick crunch on it for a squeak then I took it from her with the drop it command she let it go. Followed me so fast!
I have a 4 month old husky great with everything else but is terrible at heel his helped alot
OMG I’m trying this tomorrow!!!! I’ll reply to my comment if my dog phoebe got it or if she got close or not, she’s half deaf and blind btw :)
You're a great trainer! Love it. I use some of these videos for my service dog. One thing to keep in mind is only give a dog a treat when they do exactly what you want.
Does a sevice dog always have to heel? Zak said that you can't always ask them to heal. Is heal only in certain places or only around people?
he is just so precious! I love BB-8!
Great! What are those treats you use?
Thanks Zak I'm getting a dog in April these tips will surely help
I have a black pit puppy and it took me 3 tries to make sit and only 4 times to make him shake(give paw) and were doing ok on the heel thing but, he likes sticks and likes to roll in the grass since we live in the sticks😄
HES BACK YAYYYYY
bb8 is easily one of the cutest dogs i've ever seen
Thank you zak for saving me hundreds on dog training. :)
BB-8 did so good
Oh my goodness he is so adorable
I can feel the sharp puppy teeth on my fingers as he rewards BB8
Excellent Job Zak, I turn to you before getting frustrated with our new Pommie, but she's getting it! Thanks!
Also, thank you so much for your videos, my son is Autistic and your method of training is so gentle and loving it's really helped him understand the value of training.
please make a detailed video on your border collie "Venus" please #ZakGeorge'sDogTrainingeEvolution
Great video! He was having a lot of fun with you. Always cool to see that.
Oh my god that puppers is amazing
Hey Zak, love your book! I have a 6 month old viszla and she doesn't pay attention when I train her. What should I do?
My puppy learned heel in half an hour and now he's really good at it.
Omg amazing 🥰🥰
Bb8 always has eyes that say “wtf is going on”
His facial expression is like that Angry Drake meme 🤣
How do I get my dog to heel without always needing treats 😅
I would suggest slowly fading them out. Sometimes give one sometimes don't. I'm no pro tho so maybe do some research on your own
What kind of treats is good for a puppy that you can really spoil them with when they respond properly to a command?
Great book and clips..love training my border terrier pup using Zak's approach...sometimes he will sit knowing a treat may come such as when walking on the lead...food orientated!
Sir, I sincerely watch Ur videos since I got a new puppy. I really appreciate Ur work and thank you for all Ur efforts. But sir can u make a video on a list of things which we don't need to teach our dogs..that would be very helpful.
Is it better to start off training with this inside? With less distractions? Or it just depends on the level of focus your dog already has?
BB8 is fabulous.
Can you tell me what is a good dog to get who loves his owner and good for being a guard dog and good for living in an apartment and loves to play and first time dog
What a doll face ❤️ he's a cute pup!!
Such a good doggo
