- I'm not really sure what went on, none of us really do. I will say it looked bad from the outside looking in all the way around. I think there are some major problems showing up in Professional Fishing and I don't see them going away.

MY PROFILE:
I started fishing when I was just a young kid and instantly fell in love with Bass Fishing. Started fishing tournaments when I was in high school and have been fishing them ever since. For years I fished every tournament I could enter sometimes fishing as many as 45 tournaments a year. I qualified for the Elites when I was 30 but didn't have the sponsors or money to compete so I turned it down. Got sponsor support later and fished the FLW Tour for 2 years and having been fishing the Toyotas since 2006. I’ve won 5 Angler of the Year Titles becoming the only fishermen to have more than 3 AOYs in the Toyota series. Won numerous events along the way that has helped shape my way into working for Strike King as head of product innovation. Along the way, I picked up a camera and started filming my endeavors. I have now fallen in love with making videos about fishing and delivering it to you. Follow along the journey...it should be an honest and fun ride!
100% agree! you were saying what other professionals won’t say. If BASS doesn’t step up and do something about this it’s going to get much worse.
I have LOST every bit of respect for the Johnson sister’s! They are bullying cheaters period!😂
It is all about respect and sportsmanship. Some people have it, and some don't. This is one of your best videos Todd!!
I can't believe that any angler would be on the Johnston brothers side. Punks
But you ain’t??
Canadians.
Great post! It amazes me to see how many people on social media don't see a problem with what happened. I was a big fan of both Johnsons. I struggle with that now. Gee did the best he could with what experience he has. But let's say it had been KVD, Lee Livesay, Greg Hackney, or a whole list of others. They would have never tried it, and if they had, the outcome would have been WAYYY different.
Kind of a bad look for BASS for the commentators to grin and add fuel to the fire on both day 3 & 4. Just my .02....Good vid TC.
They added fuel to the fans opinions and not the anglers involved. The anglers don't listen/watch BassLive after they launch....
If I was Feider and Robertson I'd be quitting the derby boys and not wanting to be associated with those 2 so I could protect my sponsors. This should have huge blow back!! Those 2 do this all the time to anyone. Fished against them at Sturgeon Bay and they ran right up on me and my partner. Felt like they were trying to blow out the fish we were fishing
You do it the right way Todd, it's called ethics. Both Johnston's were wrong by their actions and both of them have lost their integrity. Sad that one of them is representing BASS as the AOY, so BASS needs to address that issue.
You nailed it man. I said the same thing watching it live. If chris thought that spot was so valuable , he should have been there day 1. Him looking into the camera and saying " nice guys finish last" tells you he knew what he was doing was wrong. He just didn't have enough morals to follow his gut.
He's not nice.
greed runs the show, mouths to feed and bills to pay means law of the jungle and why my friends and I just go fish to fish... Fux all the madness... It makes the world a suxxy place.
Blessings Todd Aloha
He was there on day 1. He fished between Tomkins, Gee and McKinney and got spun out because they were all three right on the juice.
Ban Canadians.
@@coygreathouse1211 that was day 2
@@davidhawkins6776it was the whole tournament
Thank god. Thank you for explain normal fishing etiquette to the masses. If I’m running to a place and someone is there, it never crosses my mind to pull in on them. Ever.
Johnston brothers = 0 integrity
Todd thank you for putting your opinion out there you are a 110% right, I would have hate to see if somebody rolled up on him when he was winning on the St Johns River oh my God all hell would have broke loose and where he was at the Johnston fished one of the biggest community holes in Florida. I believe if gee was a little older and a little bigger I think things would have been different. Always good to watch you bro
@@claudewilliams8000 He did have a guy go to his winning hole and he had a fit !!! I think it was Crews if I’m not mistaken! I think Cory said something like I tried to call the guy and the punk wouldn’t answer ! The Johnstons talk shit all the time on camera !
The top level of bass fishing is nothing to aspire to.
100%. Just high stake gambling. Not a professional sport
I think a major issue is the Johnson brothers split their earnings. I think it’s pretty obvious Chris was sabotaging Robert so Cory could win. It could create a bad precedent of anglers teaming up to sabotage each other.
I kind of agree…. But Chris had AOY on the line as well!
@@brianabercrombie6999I would agree if he only went there on day 3. But he went back on day 4 after he already won AOY.
@@mikemccormick4631I didn’t get to watch day 4 so I didn’t know he went back….
He had already won AOY
I agree with you
I freakin love you man. We need more pros to grow a pair and put more truth in their content
The guy sounds a lot like Edwin Evers. I remember that look.
That look is because he had the winning fish on and the camera got in his line. I’d have shot a look too. Camera man knew better than to get that close
It’s clear that BASS has a problem with the leadership …..
I hate the whole thing about “ that’s my spot and oh yeah that’s my spot over there too, and nobody else can fish it”. After you leave your first spot of the morning or tournament, then that water is open. Too much whining when there’s thousands of acres of water to fish beside that one waypoint!
A waypoint that you got from someone else anyway!!! 🤣🤣🤣
It’s a sad state when money becomes more important than integrity. I guess integrity and moral excellence isn’t taught much anymore. Sometimes unspoken rules are the most important.
I feel really bad for Robert G because he's the one that deserved to win that tournament what makes it also worse is that Zona also agreed with Johnson's move that's really messed up . Straight up
Yeah zona is a Johnston ass sniffer
Zona has always been the class clown of BASS.
Zona is a putz
Loving the video!!! 🤓 "Let's be Honest" we have spots but we don't own spots 🤠 and as a TxTT Legend we just don't run up on the leader!!! 🤫🤫🤫 Let's go!!! You still the living TxTT Legend!!! 👍
You don't that kinda stuff because you have integrity. Now days people don't have integrity.
I wonder if that's how they raise their kids? I see a few defenders but an overwhelming number who don't support them so hopefully there are a lot more people who do it right than the ones doing it wrong.
It's called sportsmanship.
Todd the sport needs more people like you!! You are a great fisherman and a great person and good friend. Please continue to make videos like this to let people know how to act and what is the right way to do thing and whats is the wrong way to do things. As one of today's best bass fishing social media producers you are great at being brutally honest and when it come to subjects like this one. If more people were like you, I bet the bass tournament fishing as a whole would be better off. You and Russell have won a lot of Bass tournaments over the years and y'all do it by showing respect to others and that proves you do not have to be an ass to win. Bass fishing as a whole needs more respect and honesty brought back into. We are starting to lose the integrity of Tournament Bass fishing as a whole with all the BS that has happened in the past few years.
The Love of money is the root of all evil.
It comes down to $100,000.00 in prize money for 1st place.
People do things they normally wouldn’t do when competing for that amount of Money.
Bottom line, is I think It was a shitty move that those guys pulled, and even if they were blinded by greed, it’s still wrong.
Thank you for addressing this. We need more pros to speak out on this. Just because you won on a spot years ago, doesn’t mean you own the spot. If it’s so great of a spot, he should have started on it on Day 1. Don’t pull in on the leader of the tournament. Chris is probably gonna have a lot of locals fishing with him on his spots next year.
Nailed it! It’s sad, seems to get worse every year.
I’m not sure how I feel about the Johnson brothers after watching this tournament.
I'm sure they're devastated 😂
@@Evian1990 I’m sure they are 😂
Seemed like Chris turned back to his hockey roots😂, poor Gee was getting some serious board checks! Those bros were some of my favorites and are some of the most versatile guys out there, but I just lost respect for them after that. Never run up on a leader on purpose!
Makes a guy want to go back to his PMC roots.
Todd , I don’t always agree with on all your topics, but this one I am sooo glad you said this ! This is a hot topic right now and BASS anglers are totally keeping their mouths shut on this St Lawrence tournament BS ! Gee was totally screwed in this tournament! The Johnstons go ballistic when guys go to their areas ! Just look at the St John’s ! Cory flipped out when an angler came in his winning area !!! Karma should take care of this next year !
Exactly This ☝️
Fish the northern tier in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
My opinion is exactly what you just said . Great explanation of your opinion Todd.
Crowding someone on the lakes I fish, even fun fishing, will get your ass chewed out. Crowding someone in a tournament will get your ass beat. We are just old school around here.
Lol, on lakes I fish, threatening to beat someone's ass will get holes put in you.
@@michaeldarby2242😂awesome
Spinning Rod Todd, you nailed it. I think 25 years ago that 90% of anglers had the integrity to follow the unwritten rules. Nowadays, about half still have that integrity. Its sad and disgusting.
Without respect a win means nothing.
Man, I agree with ya. But the problem is that the check still cashes.
@@SouthTxDan i agree and what sucks is the people have no regrets they just go about their lives thinking they were right.
Thank you for saying it! I felt like I was alone when I said I don’t ever share spots
Agree 100%
What I don’t like the most is they would not have done that or talked to say Hackney or one of the older elite guys. They treat the rookies like punks because they know they can. Gonna take a young guy popping somebody in the mouth, then he’s gonna be the bad guy.
Those rookies don’t just deserve respect….. they have to earn it…… every bit of drama this year in BASS involved a rookie…..
Whats sad is both of what you guys say is true. I think a lot went on this year and a lot of guys made the whole field look bad
@@toddcastledinefishing5924 I mean every rookie made the classic when guys like Scott Martin, and Swindle didn’t. I think that says a lot.
@@fivekeepersfishing9050 Scott made the Classic through the Opens.
@@TheFishdoctor1952 that’s right! Forgot about that. I just meant that there were some stud seasoned fishermen that were towards the bottom of the points this year, and the rooks were towards the top.
I found that spot in 1986 practicing for a Red Man tournament. I finished 5th, it was before Goby and it took Largemouth back than to win. My team tournament partner elite pro Joe Sancho finished 2nd there at an Everstart a few years later. Maybe 20 years ago it became a community hole. I don’t think you could imagine what Ontario gets like when the wind blows and that’s the community hole that has some protection closest to the lake. That’s where everyone is going to fish when the wind blows. They all just ran 80 miles to find out that Ontario was unfishable. Overall you are right but this was something of a unique situation.
The power to get inside someone's head is a powerful tool. This is what happens with unwritten rules. No one did anything wrong by the rules, but according to the unwritten rules they did. Cory says if anyone has a problem with him to let him know. Mess with those bothers at your own risk. It was nice to hear you say going to get someone to come fish the spot did not seem right either. Maybe Trey's coach can coach him on that.
How do I get ahold of him to let him know I’ve got a problem with him?
@@corymiles248 I am pretty sure he has a channel on here or somewhere. I am sure he would love to hear from you. I feel quite sure he will not worry about you at all.
@@fishinganddishingwithdavid I’m not worried about whether he is or not.
@@fishinganddishingwithdavid doesn’t matter to me what his emotions are.
@@corymiles248 he really ain't worry about anything you have to say. If you want say it to his face it don't matter. It is just hot air. Then add in the fact that he can out fish you.
I totally agree with your values because I'm the same way!!! I was a co-angler in June and I wanted to be respected as a great co-angler by Just Fishing and respecting the Pros front of the boat area and not making them wait on me putting on my life jacket or waiting on me reeling in my line!!! I feel like, by doing all of that stuff, any pro will Always want to fish with me!!! Respect is everything!!!
If a guy is leading or not ,I’ve never pulled right up on a guy where he’s fishing. Now if it’s take off time and I get to a spot first the other dudes are S.O.L get a faster boat !!
As always, you're spot on brother!
Todd, you are so correct. Thank You.
If it was lee or swindle he wouldn’t have done it
It’s a lot of guys that he wouldn’t have done it to without talking to first..,,. But those rookies must earn respect…. They don’t just get respect….. 90% of the drama in BASS this year was dealing with a rookie…..
Todd the Johnson guy knew what he was doing because at take off he said good guys always finish last. He said that
Totally in agreement with you. Well done
You nailed this one dead on ! The fact fact is the Johnsons straight bullied Gee , would this have played out same way if it was Lee Livesay , Caleb cuphall , J will or hackney ? No . At all levels integrity ethics and morals are being lost to the win at all costs attitudes.
There needs to be a rule thats strictly enforced that states u cant be within so many yards of another angler. One of the clubs i fish the rule is that if u make a cast as far as u can throw double that length and thats how far u need to be away from another angler
I think it's time to introduce a larger - much larger "distance rule".
Sportsmanship!!!! That’s the word that so many people don’t know.
I have been looking forward to your thoughts on this and I figured you would say what you said in this video. I have watched enough of your tournament videos to know that you would never come up on someone like that. Just like the Zaldain issue earlier in the year I believe if you wanted to fish a point and someone was there you would of either a not stopped or if you knew you could stay far enough away you would of talked to the other angler to find out if you could or figure out if they were working that whole point. Wish everyone thought like you.
Rumor has it Cory was able to keep balance on those huge waves because of his huge balls that he let hang . Everyone is soft as fresh baked cookies these days literally was a amzing tourney
Spot on. I had gotten into chase boating for Scott at all the south eastern elite tournaments and I’m friends with Welcher and have filmed for him too. With the intention of learning from the pros through a camera lense. And Kyle asked at the classic when I filmed for him since Scott didn’t make it this year. And he asked on a practice day if I still wanted to go pro. And now…. Absolutely not with all the ffs drama and all the other drama fans don’t see. But I’m happy just holding a camera and watching from the sidelines lol
Todd Spitting facts
Very well said, totally agree
Great take
It shows the brothers character and the entire league should turn their backs on them.
I agree. If you wanted to start there you should have. If I’m fishing a spot and the next day your on that spot, I just go catch fish somewhere else.
Spot on Todd. A big problem nowadays is “we” are training young kids to be totally cutthroat on the water. Earlier this summer I was on Hartwell the day before a high school tournament and had boats (being driven by their chaperones) coming right in on me to fish the same point all day long. I used to fish a lot of weekend tournaments but haven’t in the past several years - they (the tournaments) are ruining bass fishing…
I definitely see your side and I share that point of view. Where it gets complex for me is Apparently he started there on day 2 and didn’t catch them on a drop shot then showed up on day 3 with a minnow. If he caught fish and left it would be one thing to come in but not catching them one day and then coming in with something else the next day is sketchy
I always like your side and your opinion!
I agree with your stance 100%
My thing is, Gee had no problem pulling in there day 1 when McKinney, thompkins and Tyler Williams were already on it….. nobody had a problem with any of that, anglers included…… kinda like the “ inviting” anglers in thing…..
Yea thats why I said I didn't wan to comment on this because there was probably a lot going on that wasnt talked about. I think the whole video of day 3 made it look really bad
Oh it’s no doubt the video didn’t make it look good….
Those guys weren't leading the tournament at that point. It was a different set of circumstances on days 3 & 4.
@toddcastledinefishing5924 if you didn't want to comment on it, then why bring it up at all? Seems like fishing for clicks.
@@fishingmusicianI I brought it up because it just happened. Then I went directly into my own experiences and what I thought was right. If you notice I didn’t say if they were right because I wasn’t there. I just said what I thought was ok about rolling up on the leader if it was me
Spot on Todd!
The good stuff doesn’t make the six o’clock news because we love dirty laundry!!!
much respect
There’s nothing I can do if someone has a faster boat than mine and they beat me to a spot that I have been fishing on then that’s there spot until they leave
Chris fished it day 1. He left because it was crowded. He called Gee and told him he would be there day 3&4
He did fish the area that day but stayed away from Gee. After not catching them he left.
Wtf, gard your area, He left that opened to everyone. Don't come back saying you're going fish it day 3&4. Specially pull up to someone who is already there thinking you have the right to be there.
😂Bloody Hell Todd, add the super thanks button so we can help grow your channel lol
Hard enough to make entry fees and get costs covered😅
PERIOD. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I agree!!
"They don't care"- he is describing the entirety of the posters on Bass Boat Central!
Is it bad? 😂😂 I sure don’t get in that
@@toddcastledinefishing5924 Toxic lib snake-pit....but act very sanctimonious at the same time.
Not the first time there was some weird stuff going on in the final event with AOY on the line
Your exactly right
I was taught to show respect and find your own fish. I was also mentored by my grandfather in everything B.A.S.S. fishing . Iam near the age of those Johnston brothers and they clearly do things the wrong way . Maybe it’s a Canadian thing?
As good as Chris is on st Lawrence. I bet he had another 50 good spots but what do I know. I also don’t have a dog in the fight..
Just another nail in the coffin of the “big leagues”. I don’t watch and don’t care anymore. It boring and there is so damn much drama, and marketing, from people that don’t even have a redeeming personality it’s not worth my time.
Agee with you 100%!
There were two giant wild cards in this situation that I think make this a tiny bit different. First was a major one and it was weather. Almost no one ran out to the lake. Couple that with a less than perfect day one and the move makes a lot of sense. The second is aoy. All bets are off if you can win that title. You could argue that’s far more important than that single event. Day 4 Chris has a legit chance to win. It definitely felt greasy, but at the same time it was very unique circumstance. Over all I agree with your point though. Good video
Neither should determine how you act. That’s just a justification for acting a certain way. Remember having character is not when the camera is on but when no one can see you. I’m not saying this about him I’m just saying it in general. If you make an excuse then it doesn’t matter. The weather is irrelevant, that big giant river and you have to go catch them on top of someone else. That’s also an excuse.
@@toddcastledinefishing5924spot on young man!!
My opinion is Chris donked RG ive fished a bunch of Tournament with you and your spot On
Not only was it wrong, but that subtle little threat would’ve been handled as well! Threaten me and you better have the balls to do it to my face and deal with the consequences! Piss poor sportsmanship and it shows the lack of integrity that he has! I hope his sponsors were paying attention!
It won’t happen, but I would like to see competitors go back to the Golden Rule - don’t move in on the leader. Give him his shot to win.
In the future, he returns the favor if the situation presents itself.
Where was all this you dont move in on the leader when they did it to chris in 2020 on the river pics are on bassmaster with 2 boats 5ft from
Plain and simple...no one gets punched in the face anymore.
The spot was a community spot that Gee learned from the opens. It’s a huge spot and both Gee and the Johnston brother said it was blown out of proportion by keyboard warriors. All you whiners are the reason why bass fishermen are the biggest babies in the world.
All them whiners, I wasn’t whining. I told my opinion on what I thought was right or wrong about pulling up on the leader from my perspective in my experience. Make sure to listen
I was talking about all the people in the comments Todd. I do appreciate your perspective and channel
Gotcha
Spot on take on the matter. Good luck in 2025.
That guy is Hank Cherry! 12:30 Not the most fun being in his boat.
I heard a guide that lives in the area say its a community hole and has been for years so Johnson's claim it was HIS spot is ridiculous. The johnsons both have continued to make a bad impression since their flw days.
Pirates
Can't hold a spot for a year.....that's ridiculous....too many variables at that point.
What I think is no one owns any spot on the water so but also no one should be with in 50yards if you get to a spot first then you fish there because when you are on any spot anyone can take it if they were there first
Bass fisherman are drama queens anyways because all they catch is my bait.
Id bet my pay check that the Johnstone bros wouldnt do that shit to Milliken or G man!
Since FFS came along they all find the same fish. The Johnston bros are assholes, they think they own the water up north. Pro fishing is a joke anymore. There is no integrity, BASS and MLF do not enforce the rules. Lets fish a tourney with only 2d sonar and see what happens. Even the polygraph official is shady. 🤷♂
How long is that his spot? How many tournaments how many years how many spots does he get on any given body water?
Tournament fishing is getting to the point of being an unethical, cutthroat, backstabbing sport. Everyone is hungry for a spot, everyone thinks they are pro. Every BFL I fish, I find myself getting cutoff, screwed over, taken advantage of, someone throwing a wake at me or someone protesting me for something (which I have never been convicted of any rule violation). It takes nerves of steel and a deep passion to stay in it these days.
Its first come first serve.
Who’s to say the Johnstons didn’t expose that spot that someone showed them a long time ago?
Then they shouldn’t have B.A.S.S. live . Then the Johnston wouldn’t have to move in . All there spots are getting taking from live. The spots they found over the year are being showing
