Standing in the Shadows of Motown (2002), Documentary - Оставаясь в тени Мотауна (2002)
Documentary about the Funk Brothers, a group of Detroit musicians who backed up dozens of Motown artists.
    Director: Paul Justman
    Storyline
In 1959, Berry Gordy Jr. gathered the best musicians from Detroit's thriving jazz and blues scene to begin cutting songs for his new record company. Over a fourteen year period they were the heartbeat on every hit from Motown's Detroit era. By the end of their phenomenal run, this unheralded group of musicians had played on more number ones hits than the Beach Boys, the Rolling Stones, Elvis and the Beatles combined - which makes them the greatest hit machine in the history of popular music. They called themselves the Funk Brothers. Forty-one years after they played their first note on a Motown record and three decades since they were all together, the Funk Brothers reunited back in Detroit to play their music and tell their unforgettable story, with the help of archival footage, still photos, narration, interviews, re-creation scenes, 20 Motown master tracks, and twelve new live performances of Motown classics with the Brothers backing up contemporary performers.

This is not just a film ..... like the movie 'The Wrecking Crew' another American historical documtery marking what made American Pop music the favored heartbeat around the whole world!!! A truly great piece of work on part of the producer and director....and the fantastic Funk Brothers, men that understood the artistic beauty and power of sound!

I can't believe there was no mention of these guys in the Motown 25 Special. Berry Gordy and Smokey Robinson should be ashamed.

I am ABSOLUTELY thrilled that The Funk Brothers received the recognition that they so Greatly deserved, to ALL of The Funk Brothers alive and in glory, gone but NEVER FORGOTTEN, your music is so needed and appreciated, you ALL have graced the music industry Forever, without your contributions, music wouldn't reside in it's proper place, FLAWLESS, every beat, every melody, every high hat, every strum, was music coming to life, their sound had it's own breath, their was life in every sound, whether The Temptations, Marvin. Tammie, Smokey and The Miracles, Diana and The Supremes, and many others, to suit a musical style catered toward Any particular artist, THAT'S TALENT MY FRIEND, THANK YOU FUNK BROTHERS FOREVER.

Berry Gordy borrowed $ 900 against his house to start the company in December 1959 Motown was sold to Universal for
800 Millions MOTOWN Records had fantastic talents many of them would never had the opportunity to become what they became without the MOTOWN label A good example is the Temptations who went to Atlantic for one album and then....went back to Motown WHY ? in the process of ALL successful businesses people are not getting what they should get and are "exploited" one way or another.
some get more than they should Diana Ross is the perfect example we all know why..This happen in EVERY businesses blaming Gordy is not really fair HE got all these great talents together he was the building block I LOVE THE MUSIC no matter what but yes Gordy did exploite musicians but many of these musicians made money and became famous in the process

These guys were great musicians but don't kid yourselves, Motown would have definitely been great with other musicians as well. The voices were so filled with magic & charisma that many could have sung acapella and still had hits. If you really study the voices you quickly realize the beautiful nuances and expressions filled with passion.

PA Any musician'll tell ya, it's got to have a pocket, it don't have that I don't care what lyrics or voice you have, it's not gonna fly. A lot of times there were only words and THESE cats gave it wings.
