I love Hunky Dory. So many styles from the grandeur of Life On Mars to the energetic rock of Queen Bitch (probably my favorite) but every song on that album is special.
A fantastic interview. Hunky Dory is certainly my favourite album of all time. Life On Mars is my favourite song, it has been since the day it was released. Duncan Jones was originally named Zowie Bowie before changing his name to Joey. David and Ken created a timeless masterpiece which is as fresh today as the day it was recorded. Well done Ken x
This is very interesting. Hunky Dory is such a beautiful album that you would think it was one of the true miracles of pop music! I like the interviewer too, she is intelligent, professional and very good looking.
Thank you Colleen. A fascinating interview, including details I’d never heard before on one of the greatest albums of all time by my favourite artist. Excellent.
What a great interview. So glad such things takes place. At school, aged 14 (in 1972), I remember doing a set of watercolour paintings featuring images from The Bewlay Brothers and explaining to my teacher where these images came from. I didn't try to explain what the song was about.
Terrific interview, it's such a pleasure to listen when the interviewer clearly knows the subject by heart and is so well researched, got some fascinating insights into the album from Ken, great job!
I found an EP (in 1969( of David's an Space Oddity was one of the songs. The B&W cover peeked my visual interest, as it was just 'different') When I got home and put it on the turntable, I was completely blown away. Naturally after that EP, I wanted more of this new guy...As I listened to TMWSTW, it grew on me song by song. And honestly that's how every one of his album's were to me. I'd like a couple of songs straight out the box, and then as I listened in headphones, I was totally into his music. And even in 2021, I never tire of listening to any of his albums as each one is different from the one before. For a solo artist to remain so relevant, fresh and new throughout the years is something terrific. And yeah, I miss that guy...Plus in 1969 the only other group I was musically passionate about was breaking up, The Beatles. So David came along to fill that gap ..quite nicely too I might add.
Wonderful interview. Ken Scott is always a good listen/read. I do think Man Who Sold the World stands out as an outlier in Bowie's LPs. If you listen to Tony Visconti (and I'm gonna paraphrase here) Bowie was having issues in his personal life and was bringing partially formed demos to the studio and going off to deal with his life. Leaving Ronson to polish the songs into a more finished product. Visconti has alluded to MWSTW should be heard as a Bowie/Ronson record. If you listen to Ronson's other work at the time, I think it's clear that that take on MWSTW is pretty accurate. By Hunky Dory, Bowie is more settled back into being the clear driver with Ronson as an aide.
Great show and excellent choice for an interview with Ken Scott. Ken's production and engineering on Bowie's great albums like Hunky Dory, Pinups and more- his work on Supertramps Crime Of The Century, Crisis What Crisis sound great. Hunky Dory is my fav Bowie album. Ken got his job at Abbey Road because some the engineers that were there for years didnt want to work the late hours The Beatles got up to. Imagine that is the break he needed to work at Abbey Road.
I always said Bow, as in take a bow, when pronouncing the name. Zowie, not Zoe, is apparently taken from the Batman comics to rhyme with the surname. ⚡️
Wow, great interview! First time listener, first time caller - sign me up! I look forward to checking out more from this fine interviewer. Love that you ask a question and then allow your guest to answer.
Hunky Dory is a great album but it wasn't a commercial success at the time it came out. only after Bowie reached success with Ziggy (both the album and the persona) and Hunky Dory was released again it became a hit but never reached n. 1 in the charts.
s this the most overrated record in history? The reviews always excuse such humiliation of eight line poem and song for Bob Dylan. Not just bad, embarrassing lyrics. And the pompous beweley brothers, free festival part 2? He’s made such great complete records This has great moments but is obviously flawed.I don’t know how every review ignores this. Dylan and 8 line are really really bad.
as a fan i prefer TMWSTW to Hunky Dory, take away Changes, life on mars and quicksand the rest is just a mixbag of normal songs! On the other hand TWMSTW is more definitive and themed!
My favourite Bowie album.
Ken is fab! Was lucky to hang out with him recently at the Bowie Convention in Liverpool....such a cool and lovely man.
Awesome She lets Ken speak a great way to hold an interview :)
Ken Scott, a wonderful person I could listen to for hours. Many thanks for this interview.

It still sounds amazing, thanks to Ken.

I love Hunky Dory, and Ken Scott is a big part of the album. Great interview.

Thanks a lot for all these insights! Hunky Dory is one of my favourite albums off all time.
I would give anything to have done the albums Ken Scott did. And Hunky Dory sounds better than ever.
Excellent interview.
Colleen is professional, well informed and polite.
Thank you :)
Colleen is one of the best interviewers and let’s the interviewee speak , and her knowledge is second to none !
And quite pretty too.
Lovely interview
Quicksand is a masterpiece. Best song on the album at its core.
I always said Bow, as in take a bow, when pronouncing the name.
Zowie, not Zoe, is apparently taken from the Batman comics to rhyme with the surname. ⚡️
Great show!
Beautiful.
Does Ken still produce? The sound of his productions are incredible but I don’t see his name on production credits over the last number of years.
He was just in the studio in Nashville a few months ago so yes - he still produces :)
@@ClassicAlbumSundays someone needs to update his Wikipedia page - his last production credit is 12 years ago!
@@conorfurlong you're right! I'll let him know :)
Best Wishes from Germany

never got past the ads
Mick ronson was in that studio
excellent
lovin it!!! (psst - it's a 'boo-ee' knife, not 'bow-ee')
Didn't Ken Scott produce a Tubes album too??

Dylan and 8 line are really really bad.
Agreed, hunky dory mediocre
Wow, you’re wrong, tmwstw is much better than hunky dory. Only a few good songs on that.
Bowies best album..?
No

Totally agree. Hunky way overrated. Tmwstw every song is great. I don’t think she even listened to it.
Mick ronson was in that studio
