I used Lousiana State University - LSU leg-braces for three years and never escaped the parallel bars...they eliminated the need for trunk control. Good job!
Sorry to say... The brace demo reminds me what torture going through Physical Therapy can be. Every day I appreciate my power wheelchair more. I really don't like walking or standing any more due to the associated risks. Awesome video ! it really gives some perspective on options. This video helps me to better see inside your home... I'm not unique as a power wheelchair user ! I no longer have bulky furniture like a couches and big heavy recliners, etc !!! Thanks for letting us peak into your world Dan ! Have a great day everyone.
I used long leg braces with shoes attached almost 40 yrs ago. Used crutches so I did the swing through ambulation. So glad I stopped when I heard of all the terrible injuries "gaiting"as it was called can do. Plus, there's nothing you can do while gaiting. Can't push a shopping cart or carry a bag, or use the hands for anything other than hold the crutch.
I was good to see you standing up right. I don't know if exercise at that level is even good for you but wow!!, what a work out. It looks like at your current size, and with the space you have in that apartment, some type of well fitted exoskeleton device might even be possible for you. I saw a very old man walking like when you were standing to the supermarket, fully relying on his arms to also be his legs. He was really struggling so much. With electric, or hell!!, even a manual wheel chairs available, I don't know why he would put himself through that. I can't imagine how he would be able to grab any groceries. I can stand, and take some steps but at the end of the I must sit or I will go down like a rock!! My Hoveround is a real life saver, and allows me to walk my dogs and that makes my day. BTW, got my first flat tire so, I have to deal with that tomorrow. But, it's all good!!
when i stood up this afternoon i was thinking hmmm.. the ground is SO FAR away right now!! I'm 6'1" - so thats a hearty distance to fall... also i got a flat tire in the bounder last night also LOL that was fun!!
i had tire slime in there.. luckily the drive tires are large enough so ALL the air doesn't rush out faster than the hole can be plugged! made it to a nearby gas station and filled it back up and was on my way!
Tim, my son was walking next to me while I was elevated, and he said, "Whoa. So weird. I'm not looking down to talk to you." My new Permobil gets me 2" taller than the last one.
I enjoy your videos . My wife had a brain hemorrhage 7 yrs. ago. We are patiently waiting for her f3 to replace her Pronto m51. Its taking for ever thru numotion.Started 5 months ago .Medicaid deemed some chair features unnecessary and they want a 2700 copay. The chair has already been built and has been delivered to Iowa from Cali. I get zero correspondence unless I call them. Can you help me ?
I have scoliosis and spinal stenosis and other back issues. I have not been able to walk for awhile. I’m wanting to get a power wheelchair soon. My days consists of laying down 24/7 . I think a wheelchair would help be to gain some strength and hopefully not hurt so bad.
This may be difficult , but it's good to see you out of the chair for a few minutes anyway. Way To go. If they had a hats off emoji you would get one. Take care
I am 90% paralyzed on my left side and wear a brace with the shoe attached on my left leg that goes up to the knee. Although I can tie my shoes with one hand, it was easier buying a pair of shoes with Velcro straps, much easier to handle..
WOW ! Beautiful braces . Were your legs cast in plaster or fibreglas when you were fitted for the braces ? That's how I get fitted . I hate velcro & always ask for leather straps w/silver metal buckles . Do you have a spinal cord injury & if so are you still able to walk at all ?
@@TotallyNormal- Dan Thank You for your reply . I'm sorry you can't walk . Have you ever been able to in the past . I'm retired from VA . May I ask are you retired ?
Having used long leg braces myself, i feel your discomfort! It is a bit odd standing up, you do tend to forget how tall you actually are. My question to you is, since you probably have grab bars in your bathroom, why didnt you set yourself up in there? Granted, it wouldn’t have been as good as parallel bars, but better than cuffs(which i did too)! You might want to see if you can find someone who could use them- braces and cuffs!
ty dan for sharing also could you maybe keep them around use them to stand just for few like in the video it might help with circlelation idk i dont want to hurt self though take care buddy and ty again i enjoyed it
Your gonna pay for doing that standing later... LOL... I remember when I was young I had the leg braces that strapped to the legs and was attached to the shoes. And attached around the waist. Had to use them for year's. Hope your body doesn't punish you to much for what you did...
I still wear a brace that the shoe is attached but mine just goes up to the knee. I tried plastic brace where the shoe fits in and it was always so uncomfortable and I still had a toe drag. Since the plastic brace always hurt, I would try and walk so it would eliminate the pain. With the AFO brace that I am wearing now it holds my paralyzed leg and foot in position without any problem and I am able to do activities I like such as square dance.
U scared the bejesus outta me, watching u do that alone! Damn Dan, my butt was puckering. Dont do that chit again. Am in the hospital & extended ortho rehab wing of a nursing home. Yeah buddy what fun. Both my knees took a total crap on me like 2 months ago n we're trying to work around having to do surgery on them. Ah well, watching i do that was indeed entertaining but unless i have a crash cart super closeby please don't have me watch u do bizarre stuff again. Oy vey n stuff like that. Mega wow wow.

'sux don't it?? It's my first so it caught me totally unprepared. I plan to buy enough tires and inner tubes to be ready for the next one(s??)!!!
i had tire slime in there.. luckily the drive tires are large enough so ALL the air doesn't rush out faster than the hole can be plugged! made it to a nearby gas station and filled it back up and was on my way!
when i had a manual chair years ago - i carried patch kits, and a little CO2 tire inflater.. saved me several times!
Great share. I am able to walk for short periods on a good day. I have AFO's to reduce movement and pain on the ankles, but It takes a lot out of me.
I recently got a Permobil M5 with 14 inch seat lift. It gets me almost as tall as I was before my accident. It is such a different perspective.
interesting to wander around some place you've been 100's of times - BUT at a different height! everything looks so different!
SWEET ! That is my dream wheelchair right now ! Lucky You :-)

You are very good.. I use a special orthopedic chose with steel reinforcement...Therefor I walk slowly.
Hi, so I was really interested in your chair I have a quantum 6 edge that elevates and was wanting to see other options thank you.
