How much are you supposed to water it? Should I put it in the sun (a windowsill) or in shade? I will probably be growing it indoors in a pot as it will soon be too cold for planting outdoors.
I don't know what ag zone you are living in, but here in CA zone 9a the winters are mild enough to plant garlic between now and december, so we can harvest it in early summer. You harvest when about one third to half of the plant (leaves) turn yellow and wilty. If you plant it shallow, you'll be able to watch the bulb grow right under the surface of the dirt. Garlic does not like overwatering, so keep the dirt moist but not soggy. Garlic loves sun - keep you pots in the sunniest location possible. Try indoors, but plant some outdoor to find out if it survives winter - if it does, it'll let you know by sending happy green shoots up in spring. It'll probably do well wintering in harsh conditions and coming back to life in spring

My garlic always sprouts in my kitchen, even in my fridge. I will plant some in a pot now!
Plant it, and you'll have fresh sprouts to add to your sandwiches or salads, similar to chives or green onions
