  • Hey Everyone! In this video, we awake at Ice Lake in the Eagle Caps of Oregon for the second day of our trip. It’s October 4th, 2020 and Fall has never looked so nice. In this second episode of our trip here, we climb to Matterhorn Peak - the second highest peak in the Eagle Cap Wilderness/Wallowa Mountains. It was a climb! Once at the top I logged a total distance of 2.31 miles hiked from our camp at Ice Lake. That took 2 hours 17 minutes to complete with a total elevation gain of 1,941 vertical feet. If you’re planning on doing this trip, be sure to be ready for loose rock and steep conditions while making the final ascent to the top. The climb is not for the faint of heart, but it’s definitely doable if you’re okay with some heights and are conditioned appropriately.
    Be sure to check out the first video of this series, which details our first day hike up to Ice Lake. You can find it here: • BACKPACKING ICE LAKE |...

    Great video! Imagine that giant granite batholith being forced up from the mantle to poke up so big and proud for millions of years, wicked cool.

    Such a beautiful view from the top! Nice to see you brought trekking poles, I couldn't imagine making that climb without poles, so helpful, especially on the way down. Good video!

      Oh man it was awesome! Seriously I don’t think we can ever backpack again without trekking poles. I was able to run down that mountain with them, and they really made a huge difference. Thanks Dirk!

    Love your cinematography Danny. This looks like an amazing spot. I'm going to do some more research and maybe try to it this year. Stunning views!

    Did Matterhorn last year & loved Eagle Cap as we do your videos. Plan the East Fork to Glacier Lake to West Fork Loop this year. Lake was cold end of September when I jumped in. I take a dip in them all but never seen a Mountain Bass🤣🌲

      Wow thanks so much! I'd say Matterhorn was one of my first real summits. I really enjoyed that climb, and it was really scenic at the top. Would love to hit Eagle Cap one of these years as well. Ha! I bet the water was cold.. I'm yet to find a remotely warm alpine lake 😂... Kind of like an elusive mountain bass! Seriously thanks so much for the comments and for watching all the videos - I truly appreciate your support! Cheers!

    What time of year did you go and were there bad mosquitos? Awesome video, planning to go this year!

      @DannyJSchaefer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Tori! We did this one in early October of 2020. We really lucked out on the weather, and it made for a beautiful trip! There weren’t really any mosquitos that I recall, but only because it was so late in the year. I’d definitely come prepared for them if you go earlier! Thank you so much for watching the video. Feel free to shoot me any other questions you may have when planning your trip. Cheers!

      Not sure who you're asking.. But it looks like I said it a little fast so it came out more like.. "Wallwa"

    So close. If only you had made it to the actual summit instead of the ridge.
