I like Loch Lomond as a distillery - it reminds me of the hard grafting food factories in which I have had to work that are still able to present a good standard of quality at a reasonable price.
If one compares this to a blend, not a single malt - then one get a better idea (particularly when compared by price) of the value this represents and it does represent "real bang for your buck". Your scores reflect this.
Gentlemen, you have really nailed the description of this solid dram and I believe you have understood what it represents; so, thank you.

Fascinating whisky to review. Thanks for the humor and the detailed description. Cheers!

These designations are quite interesting. Bruichladdich did distill some rye earlier on this year. That will have to be labelled as single grain in Europe, but in the USA they could call it Rye whisky.
Loch Lomond does some good stuff. Tried some when I was in Edinburgh last year and I quite liked what I tasted but impossible to find in pubs and bars in Sweden.

p.s. it's not "LeMond" its Low-Mond, or more technically as a scottish person would say it... Low-mind (with mind said like wind)

I have just bought the pleated version of this single grain Loch Lomond.
I tend to disagree it does smell like a grain whisky as you would find in a cheap blend but exemplified so much, shows itself without shame, a very bold whisky strong liquorice and marzipan, the peat in it feels so different to an Islay for example, very grassy fresh peat not so much brimey. Such strong robust flavours though, whatever you get from it it is very pungent in a good way.
