  • The Morris-Jumel Mansion is the oldest house in Manhattan. Being in its vicinity is a step back into colonial times. It is a place of beauty that is of great importance in the history of American culture and architecture.

Thank you for a very polished presentation on this historical building. I had not been aware of it's existence. Your video makes me want to put it on my 'bucket list' of things to see. Thanks again!

It's mind-boggling that most New Yorkers don't even know of this place and its historical significance.

Whoever said they would like to live in the neighborhood of row houses does not realize that that street sits dab in the middle of one of the worst ghettos in New York City

When I first saw this video I thought you were wrong but I just checked and the house I was thinking of is in Brooklyn.
Still I would do some more checking before accepting this as ther oldest.
There must be something older4 than that.
The Wyckoff house (the house I as thinking of) was 1652.
Only one section of the house as it is today is the original house but it still stands and it is a hell of a lot older than this house in this video.
There must be something like that in Manhattan somewhere.

was the original owners family ever compensated for the house? If not it is stolen, and should be returned to the heirs.

Wrong. You are apparently unfamiliar with property rights in times of war. Just look at how many families in Britain lost their properties for choosing the wrong side or the wrong religion. It sucks but that's just the way it worked.
