  • The Staudte Family were not without their difficulties, but largely a happy family in Springfield, Missouri. Tragically, the father fell ill. A few months later, the son. A year later, the daughter. All from the same deadly illness. What was really going on in the Staudte family, and who had sided with who?

The daughter described staying in her brother's room after they killed him as a "nightmare". It was so bad that they moved. I'm glad he haunted her. I hope they're both haunted for the rest of their lives.

I mean, do you not see how malnourished & off she was? The whole story of what went on in that home is not being said. All the children looked chronically malnourished & sickly. Mother looks to be a covert narcissist & the one daughter her “golden child”.. likely groomed her whole life by her mom with coercive control. Daughter’s entire personality gets degraded & replaced with a compliant supply that needs to please.

This case reminds me of Marie Hilley, who was profiled on "Unsolved Mysteries" back in the 90s. She targeted her own family members for death, except that her motive was financial...she had life insurance policies on her victims. She didn't use antifreeze, she used arsenic. Unnatural levels of arsenic were found in her mother's and mother-in-law's bodies after death. Her husband died from arsenic poisoning also. Her daughter narrowly survived arsenic poisoning as well. Her son exhibited symptoms of arsenic poisoning but this cleared up after he left home to attend school.

The son was autistic and could not function as a normal human being. He would have been a parasite on her for the rest of her life. As for the other sister... who knows. Perhaps she was incredibly lazy and refused to look for work. Just saying. Perhaps the circumstances where so bad that it really broke the mother, leading her to consider killing them.

And the eldest daughter, there is a moment where her sister talks about how she poisoned her while her sister is watching employee searches on the computer. She is actively trying to find a job and not be a burden. These are excuses. Honestly, she may have killed them just because they reminded her more of her husband than herself.

Antifreeze has a troubling track record when it comes to the people it’s killed whose cause of death would say otherwise.
I know of *at least* 3 other cases where it wasn’t until a 3rd person was on death’s door, with 2 other family member’s deaths preceding them, that the case was finally looked at for what it was - serial poisoning. That of course brings up an alarming thought about how many people have poisoned someone but because they stopped at just one no one has ever caught on to them.

Just another dollop of proof that being religious leads to becoming murderous, insane, and sociopathic. All religion is evil, faith is a human flaw, and there has never come a single good person or concept, from any religion :) None, zero.
Remember guys, the only people with any actual future that's involved helping humanity and progressing to new heights of human advancement, will NOT believe in a religion. Faith has never helped a single person, ever, and adhering to these beliefs ONLY does harm to all of us. Especially teaching your kids the dogma. When Sarah, who had just been poisoned, said she forgives her mother and sister because she is "A Christian", that broke my heart. Why? Because she doesn't know any better. She was taught the doctrine by her psycho mom, and only believes in it because it's all she knows. That same doctrine is what lead her mother and sister to commit these crimes. And you can't convince me it wasn't.
Every person of faith, whether it be your insane QAnon morons, or the "nicest" pastors you know, they aren't good people. None of them are. If you hold faith, you're just as bad as the most evil beings to ever exist. Focus on fact and what we know to be true, don't hold faith in anything. You will ALWAYS be led astray by faith.

No doubt he officiated the two funerals and smelled the rats in the family pew, but with the bodies cremated he knew there would be no evidence even if he voiced his suspicions. When Sarah was in the hospital he had the good sense and morals to jump into action and save her life! The hospital staff was suspicious but they probably did not know about the deaths, so they weren't in a position to report much of anything. Only the pastor knew enough of the story to get the attention of police. I wonder if the pastor questions his choice of profession after this or if he still believes the good outweighs the bad. Turning yellow, excessive sleeping and limited responses? My first guess would have been late stage alcoholism. When it happened AGAIN in the same family in that short period of time, then I'd be pretty suspicious. The consequences of late stage alcoholism don't come on overnight, it takes YEARS to reach that point. For example, I was a serious alcoholic for over 15 years and never reached that kind of point. When the dad died, I could buy that maybe he had a secret drinking problem, but when the son goes the same way not a year later with no known history of problem drinking like his father. I'd start spamming X to doubt.

There’s a few clarifications needed for this case, not that they change the outcome. So there was life insurance for Sean which was 15 grand and Sarah also has a 15 thousand dollar life insurance policy. In Rachel’s interrogation she stated that Sarah not only knew of the plan to poison Mark and Sean, that she participated in poisoning them. Which I don’t believe is true. And also I am not sure if it was Diane or Rachel but one of them said they had been talking about killing Brianna next. Again I am not sure if that’s true or not. In fact I believe Rachel stated that everyone but Brianna and the intended victims knew not to drink the coke or Gatorade that was in the fridge because it was poisoned and was profiled due to each victims pretence in drinks. And because of this they poisoned Sarah’s root beer as it was her preferred drink. The interrogation tapes explain soooo much but are very very disturbing. I think at one point one of them stated that they chose antifreeze because they didn’t want them to suffer and they wanted them to die quickly. And considering that antifreeze poisoning is the complete opposite of quick and painless I think these two enjoyed the suffering of Sean, Mark and Sarah very much and seen it as a punishment as well as a culling of the lazy and annoying members of their family. Oh and Rachel made statements to the pastor that were somewhat incriminating and raised his suspicions even more.

She had six whole months between each murder to reflect on guilt and regret, and each time she decided to do it again, and again. She does not have a shred of regret or empathy, she only regrets getting caught.

Exactly this - clearly a malignant narcissist devoid of empathy. I'd be willing to bet that she would've killed her favourite daughter if she even so much as stepped out of line, or became a "burden" too. She didn't care about anyone but herself, and the daughter she did like had to act the same way as her / turned into her in order to survive. Clearly mental health issues or folie au deux situation. All the kids didn't stand a chance in one way or another.

It's almost like her mother intentionally made her daughter codependent on her, to the point she could talk her into anything, and the reason she never left the home was because she couldn't function without her mother, but when that codependency started to tire her, she decided the daughter had to go too. If you listen to the daughter speak, she sounds a lot like her mother, but I just get the feeling she may have developed entirely differently if she had had a healthy relationship instead of the toxic one her mother fostered. It's a really sad case that's for sure. I'm just glad the youngest girl is away from those two now. Who knows how long she had left. Hopefully she is in a loving, stable environment now.

Like a lot of people, the mother was brought up to believe that getting angry is always a bad thing. So she spent her whole life "stuffing her anger" until she just couldn't take it anymore. That's not a good reason to murder anyone but at least it's understandable. But what's really bizarre is that she raised one of her daughters to be just like her. There is NO Way that this mother was "normal" until she started to kill. My guess is that the husband knew for years what a Mental Case she was, but he enjoyed "free loading" off of her too much to chance disturbing this weird family dynamic that allowed him to be a full time, lifetime loafer.

I called the vet and explained what happened, I didn't have any money and it was on a Sunday so most vets were closed and all liquor stores were closed. The vet told me I better find some Vodka because that's the antidote for antifreeze. In Ohio they sell diluted liquor everywhere and I was able to talk a woman into selling me a bottle. So first I dumped the Vodka down her throat and then peroxide to make her vomit because that's what the vet said. My dog got very drunk and passed out but was absolutely fine. So if your dog gets into antifreeze, you can save it's life with Vodka if you don't wait too long. I hope you don't need to do this but it really does work. You're welcome.

Pretty sure, in the same way that she had just said that Shaun didn't "need" to be killed - they could have found assisted living for him, she's saying that Sarah's murder was also "unneeded", as she immediately follows that with: "we could have found some other place for her". I think she's just trying to push more blame on her mom to take it off herself, I don't think she's telling the truth, but just saying, in that moment I'm pretty sure she's not saying that Sarah herself was "unneeded" so they just got rid of her.

Exactly why more and more us men are walking away from getting married and even having sex anymore. I have seen so much evil from fellow human beings, The level of using another human being just to feel whole is quite sad. So many humans kill one another for pathetic reasons. I am not a pessimist more hopeful type, but each day the madness in the western societies has really got me cynical.

i think she was saying that [killing] sarah was equally unneeded [as killing shaun was].. seems like she really only wanted to kill her dad.

@Muhammad Ali Taking a pass on marriage and kids is financially prudent. But giving up on sex sounds like something someone says when they can't get any to begin with.

And those two decided who was unneeded, omg monsters in meek bodies and demeanor.
