  • A walking tour of Potsdam is a lesson in history. The city, a favored residence of the Prussian kings, has been beautifully restored since in the German Reunification in 1990. Most importantly, no wall and no border now separate Potsdam from Berlin. Accompany travel guide Nicole Frölich on her trip through the state capital of Brandenburg!

      Soviet Leader, Michail Gorbachev actually offered West German Chancellor, Helmut Kohl Königsberg. But Kohl turned down the offer fearing even more pressure from France and Britain who were fearing (or better should I say Magaret Thatcher) that Germany might become a new threat. Another reason why he turned down the offer was that there were literally no Germans there anymore, only Russians and a few Lithuanians, the German Goverment didn‘t really see any point in taking over a whole chunk of land which didn‘t even speak german which would make it all to complicated to integrate into the rest of Germany. Oh and did I forget to say that there is the over 300 km long Polish corridor in between?

      @karlheven8328 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@scanida5070 that was a trap by Gorbie. Or he trapped himself.
      That would never have happened, the allies would not have allowed it.
      And then we would have had millions of Russians in our country. Not necessarily a great tradeoff. Kohl was very smart and did not fall for it.

      Wozu? Ich glaube es gibt nicht viele Menschen in Deutschland, die ihr jetziges Zuhause aufgeben wollen, um in irgendein strukturschwaches Gebiet, abgeschnitten vom Rest, zu ziehen. Völliger Nonsens. Die Leute wollen ja schon nicht in den neuen Bundesländern wohnen, wir brauchen nicht noch einen entvölkerten Landstrich, das ist doch ein riesiges Verlustgeschäft.
