    Some of the parts of Mercury is impossible to get right without including the body movements and gestures as well. And he does it all, it's uncanny. It feels like he gets possessed by the actual soul (RIP) of the legend himself. Incredible performance. 👏👏👏

    Marc Martel hasn't done a lot of "classical" music performances - most of what he does routinely is covering Queen, as lead singer of the Ultimate Queen Celebration, and he contributed vocals for the Bohemian Rhapsody film to supplement the original recordings of Freddie Mercury's voice.
    One of my favorite covers that Marc has done is of Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You" (in the style of Whitney Houston's cover). Hope you check out more!

      @@tee6394 Love that cover!
      It slipped my mind to mention the cover Marc recently did of Zucchero's Miserere. Though I think it's because it's more "crossover" than classical.

    Just subscribed. What sets you apart from other reactors I've seen is that you don't pad your reactions with unnecessary commentary. Everything you say is smart and to the point, and I really like that. Adding in a big dose of compassion and positivity just puts you over the top, imo. I like watching your reactions to things I'm familiar with, so anything pre-2000 will get an immediate view from me! All the best.

    Marc Martel is an awesomely versatile and skilled rock singer, but he really made his name as a Freddie Mercury impressionist. Not only is he capable of perfectly replicating Mercury’s voice, they even look similar, despite Mercury being Parsi-Indian and his own French-Canadian ancestry and stronger jawline.
    He spent some time as the vocalist for Queen’s official touring cover band, and his voice was used alongside with Mercury’s original recordings and the actor Rami Malek’s voice to synthesize Mercury’s voice for the Bohemian Rhapsody biopic.
    Great reaction, do check out his other stuff.

    • @papabearM3
      @papabearM3 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That!
      Except,
      Marc is NOT a Freddie impressionist. This is his natural god-given voice.
      Also,
      Rami Malek did NOT sing in the biopic. Only Freddie’s and Marc’s singing voices were used and often merged to recreate Freddie’s lives vocals.

    If you like opera, Marc released a very cool rock/opera duets EP with opera singer Jonathan Cilia Faro earlier this year. He posted videos for two songs off of it, Miserere and To Much Love Will Kill You.
    But his one-take performance of Bohemian Rhapsody is his most popular video and is a popular video to react to. Not surprising since it's incredible.

      One take? Freddy/Queen worked on the song for 5 months - their longest production process of any of their songs. Freddy sang all parts in harmony and they were dubbed in as needed. For more information = check out the wiki page - it's very interesting.

    Marc fronted his own multiple award winning Christian band (called "downhere") for over 10 years. Then he auditioned for Roger Taylor and won the lead with "Queen Extravaganza," Queen's "official" tribute band, in late 2011. He sang with them until the end of 2016. When they were not going to tour in 2017, he started his own cover band, "Ultimate Queen Celebration." He's performed with them since, along with "Black Jacket Symphony" (they do EXACT recreations of famous albums, in live concerts), "Symphonic Queen" (in Mexico, with a full symphony orchestra), and as part of "One Vision Of Queen" (basically a re-named UQC), touring eastern Europe. He has several albums of his own music out as well.
    Marc also did vocals for the "Bohemian Rhapsody" movie. The 30+ year old analog magnetic tape master recordings would not have been up to modern "Dolby Atmos" digital quality standards, so they used a technique called "vocal layering," where they blended Marc's voice with Freddie's. You can see the tracks in this photo from the Live Aid scene mixing board, where Freddie's track is "LV-STEM LVAID DRY FREDDIE_01" and Marc's track is "LV-STEM LVAID_01," directly beneath it.
    i.imgur.com/Oqxw81z.jpg
    In December 2019, Marc was the special guest star for the Michael W. Smith and Amy Grant Christmas tour. He brought the house down every night. The three of them released their cover of "Silver Bells" which went to number one on the Christian Music chart. This past Christmas, Marc teamed with Amy Grant to release their cover of "The Christmas Waltz," a Frank Sinatra song.

    I saw an interview with some of the members of Queen. I remember they said, that being in the studio listening to Marc was a bit unpleasant. Cause it felt a bit too close to Freddie actually being there.

    • @marcfan1822
      @marcfan1822 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Unpleasant is the wrong word.
      Roger Taylor quotes:
      1) “It was as if Freddie was in the room. It was uncanny.” 2) "I wanted to avoid some guy impersonating Freddie. The fact that Marc Martel's voice sounds spine-chillingly identical is just a fact of nature. That's his voice. When he sings our songs, it's pretty uncanny. You close your eyes and it's like Freddie is in the room. It's scary." 3) "And, of course, we have the fabulous Marc Martel, who has the UNCANNY ability to sound EXACTLY like Freddie, and it really is spooky." 4) "That voice. You listen, close your eyes and you think it's Freddie. It's really uncanny." 5) "Quite scary... You close your eyes and you think it's Freddie onstage, and he actually even looks a little bit like him. And, it's not just the one song. It's every song he sings. When we were rehearsing, in Toronto, they were playing Bohemian Rhapsody and I was sitting down writing, trying to work out the set. And I closed my eyes and suddenly got completely spooked out, 'cause I could've sworn it was Freddie. And you know, you have a very fine ear when you do it all your life and it just is absolutely staggering at times. ... He even does the megaphone effect on 'Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon.' It's great. It's quite a joyous thing to see." 6) "Well, it's uncanny...the resemblance. We're not looking for impersonators. We're looking for great musicians who can represent our music in a good way. But Marc's tonality of his voice and even something in the face there; it's just an uncanny resemblance to Freddie, so he was a great find."
      Brian May in a Russian interview a few years ago : "He's a gift from God. "

      Unpleasant and uneased ate two completely different things. Neither May nor Taylor have EVER indicated that listening to Marc was unpleasant. In fact, every time they speak about Marc sounding like Freddie they normally come across as stunned and sort of surprised.

    In 2016cientific study (prof Christian Herbst) confirms, Freddie had an unparalleled singing voice. His vocal range F2-F6 (4 octaves) but that what makes his voice so special was extremely fast vibrato 7.04 Hz and subharmonics.
    He was able to create several more layers of harmonics than anyone else.
    Freddie was using a subharmonics by vibrating his ventricular folds, a technique usually found only in Tuvan throat
    One of the conclusions from the studies was that"He was vibrating something in his throat that even Pavarotti couldn't move".
    CHECKMATE

    • @papabearM3
      @papabearM3 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Have you read the study? Because I have. It actually says that Freddie had quite modest (by modern standards) range (F#2-G5) and inconsistent, at times amazing and other times not well-controlled, vibrato. Yes, it does say he employed subharmonics, but that is NOT unusual for a rock singer. In fact, many utilize subharmonics in their singing, not JUST Tuvan singers. Every time someone applies proper distortion, they use vestibular/ventricular folds. Also, NOWHERE in the study does it say Freddie could sing “more layers of harmonics than anyone else.”

    His voice is a little higher than a tenor. The chorus switches to an alto for sure.

      His is low tenor with a good range. Alto is a female voice.

    Martel's voice matches an organist in church, while Freddie had pipes like a cathedral organ.

      I liken Freddie to a monster truck (untamed energy) and Marc to a Ferrari (polished, well-tuned). Both powerful, but in different ways.

      @@artfulstories In s2016cientific study (prof Christian Herbst) confirms, Freddie had an unparalleled singing voice.
